Not only Jamaica. ..there's more than 20 other carribean islands out there ....Jamaica isn't the only island In the Caribbean, it isn't even the biggest one...I am from Antigua and Guyana and in those 2 countries there are hundreds of recipes so if you add in all the other islands like st.kitts , Barbados , Monserrat and many many more there would be thousands...maybe even a million carribean recipes .... There XD
@@verissasimon7883 this video is particularly about Jamaican cuisine. No one said there are other Caribbean islands with great food. As the comment above said...the Caribbean has the best food. Matter of fact every island have similar cuisine because of the different ethnic groups in the islands.
I assume you speak for ALL Jamaicans? As the recipe was given to me by a Jamaican. The beauty about cooking and recipes is that you personalize things and no 2 recipes are ever the same. Thanks for sharing yours though.
Hi Chris, It's really nice watching your videos. I don't know why it feels like home whenever I watch your videos. I think because you are a genuine nice person. Keep on posting, and I'll keep on watching. Thank you Chris.
I am from Jamaica and I love pepper shrimp but never knew how to make it. I saw your post and tried this recipe and It's very good thanks it's a keeper for me

Hiya Chris! Just wanted to leave you a comment to say thank you for all your AMAZING recipes! I have learned so much and they really are absolutely delish! Well done! Have a wonderful week end. Cheers!
do you clean your shrimp? like de-vein the back to take away the intestinal tract? Or is that not needed? I always get grossed out when I see the brown\grey stuff in my shrimp.
i found your channel today and i made the rice and peas dish. gonna try this recipe (as i have all ingredients) to go with the rice and peas (which turned out really great btw). thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for publishing these videos. I love to cook, i just don't know alot of recipes. So thank you so much for posting these and please post more.
I think it's because we grow up thinking that our way is best and the only way something should be prepared. When in reality cooking is very personal to one's likes and dislikes. I see it daily in the comments about how "wrong" something is, rather than accept , there are different methods of doing things.
You can remove the black vein from shrimp without removing the heads and shells. In Jamaica some just use a toothpick. Slide toothpick between the shell on the back and head of the shrimp while hooking the vein and gently pull it out....There.
Question---does the garlic turn bitter while making this dish? I know in some dishes where I have used chopped garlic if it cooks too quickly, it becomes bitter. How do you prevent that while making this dish? Is it the temperature that you use? Or the timing of when to add the garlic?
It would have to be the temp your cooking at because I use garlic all the time and it's full of flavor don't set it on to hi of a temp or maybe even add a little butter
Hey Chris one thing u forgot wen cooking shrimp u must cut d back of d shrimp an u'll c a Lil black line take it out becoz it d waste sack of d shrimp ( feces) of d shrimp. Good pot will try dat too.
Hey Chris thank for this recipe will be trying it for new year eve my question what happen to the black vein that runs down the back of the shrimp shouldn't it be taken out.
I think you're an amazing cook and I often refer to you when my bofriend and I are in the kitchen cooking together. I see people complaining about your talking but this is him teaching. How in the world are we to learn if he didnt talk? People would complain if he did less talking. Please keep doing what your doing and dont let anyone change you. You are amazing!
I was in jamaica maybe 4 yrs ago and I did try the shrimp in a bag it was delicious! Im glad I found the recipe ! (: definitely going to make them! Do you have one for jerked chicken? (:

You are right!!! With head and skin gives alot of flavor to the shrimp... I always cook shrimp with *margarine butter* and alot of garlic. My shrimp always have skin and head.. soooo good
Wow, and more wow! What a beautifully delicious dish. I loved it just the way you made it. No need for gloves over here, I bathe in chiles and their sauce :) Yes, you cook the shrimp the proper way. Looking gorgeous at 6:01 Lemon juice, yes please! Wonderful recipe, thanks for sharing Chris. Merry Christmas to you and yours from us here at The Hacienda!
the goal here was to 'copy' the recipe as it's done traditionally in Jamaica... If you check my other video series you'll see that I have a video showing how to clean and devein shrimp.
Thx 4 the share luv!!! Living in the south often times limits you're access for certain dishes ;) ~ I've added about 1/4 teaspoon Curry[Madras] (maybe less depending on the quantity) to my mixture and refrigerate for a few hours or even overnight. *I find 'OlD BAY seasoning instead of salt works also. *I prefer the boiling to the sautee/fry style you used.
this recipe..... well is much like been at home. I grew on this kinda cooking still remember . steeling a sample from mom pot and running away for my life...LOL my mother was mercy less at cooking time , this recipe smell like my home. smell Caribbean all over around ME..from Caimanera"
Love this! I am going to Negril, Jamaica in December and the first stop is Pushcart. My favorite dish is the Peppered Shrimp. Had it there in April of this year and have been craving it since. Can't wait to try this recipe. Thank you Chris.
