People play 1v1s in their minds when ranking players, and Jokic isn't beating many of these guys in a 1v1, so that's why some casuals (like bleacher report writers) will rank him so low. It's a team game, and what Jokic does in a game setting provides a more positive impact that anyone in the world.
You cant take a list seriously when Jokic is placed at 4. He is the best offensive player in the league and in the post season he showed the world he has improved his defence and is not a negative on defense (he was at the top for some defensive stats).
reading is key buddy. the question isn’t who’s the best player based off the recent season, it’s who do you think will rank higher. everyone’s answer is pretty much valid
@@double0double0A guy who averages a 30 point triple double that actually matters and directly correlated to a championship is somehow going to perform worse than a 30ish/8/8 Luka who's probably not even gonna make the playoffs? Make it make sense.
Fans complain literally about every list that comes out. Bleacher Report giving the fans the keys to making their own list puts a mirror up to our own dumb takes. Classic case of being given the rope to hang ourselves with. Genius move.
Jokic at 4, tells me that the casuals voted in the community. Curry and Luka are above him is a no. Giannis vs Jokic is tough but Jokic just won a chip so Jokic wins outright.
Casuals make up a bulk of the nba. Still remember the polls from Content creators on Twitter of who would win the nuggets t wolves series, and consistently around 40-45% of people were picking the t wolves, plus people were shocked Jamal could hit a fadeaway middy like that hasn’t been his bread and butter for the last 6 years.
EXCEL TIP: For ranking you should put player in a column, put experts rank in the next and fans rank after that, then add the up or down and number of spots (like you did) then filter by number of sports largest to smallest. Easy presentation and you’ll have all the data at your fingertips! You can cancel the filter or apply different ones to represent whatever you want.
THE FANS put Jokic at 4th. So that list is just a casual's opinion. Popularity contest basically. The experts - people who watch basketball more put Jokic at 1.
@@double0double0 by that logic you could make an argument for ant at 1 because wHaT iF. This isn't a what if list, this is a projection list, and based on not even last year, not even the year before, but the last 3 years, its absolutely asinine to assume jokic won't be the best player in the league next year.
@@willbarnhart8833 i never said it was a what if list. i said it was a projection list so a lot of what ifs play into it. it’s ironic that the same things that support your reasoning for having jokic at 1 also support luka, curry & giannis. some more than others of course lol. giannis, curry & jokic have all won a ring in the last 3 years. isn’t it crazy that all 3 of these teams win a ring once they add more depth or another key player to their roster? but some how jokic deserves to reign over all of them because of receny bias? bucks make a couple changes, they win chip. gsw gets curry back and they win it all. nuggets add some more depth and start to click more with the changes made the season prior and they win it all. luka has the least amount of silverware to back his case but the man has the worst team out of all 4 players. he literally dragged the mavs to the wcf in 21/22 season, a season that the nuggets took a 1st round exit. let’s not even get started on how each champion can basically have an asterisk.
@@smittywerbenjagermanjensen320 I’m not mad at it, and you can make the argument lol. He was going bananas near the end of the season. He’s their best finisher, best playmaker by a mile, statistically their best player in midrange and his 3 started to return. Plus he’s great on defense, especially as a team defender. Have super high hopes for him this year
The thing is, if you got 3 max contracts you can give out, would you really give it to a only defensive player like gobert? it didnt seem to work in utah, i dont think it works as a meta at all rn
With the fan voting, I do wonder how much it is skewed based on the way games are consumed. I.e Are these fans largely consuming highlights or watching full games. Naturally some players can have insane highlights throughout the course of a season, but it doesn’t necessarily translate to them been a top 100 player.
Nah I love Ant, but number 10 is crazy considering how everyone is discussing whether he can make that jump to top 10 in the league Also, BR having SGA at 11 is criminal. Top 10 easy
I was wondering why these comments were tripping about Jokic at 4, then I realized it wasn't an all-time list. Jokic has no business being out of top 2. (Top 1, but I am a super casual so I can't debate it)
Can't believe the only player fans and experts seem to agree on is Jayson Tatum. That's genuinely crazy to me. Surprised Kenny glossed over that. Lmfao.
I think it would’ve been fun to see you react to the list and decide which ranking (between the community’s vs the BR experts) you’d personally agree with more.
It seems like the players on Team USA(Hart, Haliburton, Reaves, Ant-Man..) all were rated higher by fans, maybe from their great production for making it to the FIBA Semifinals.
Glad DWhite got the props he deserved from the “experts”. Its clear the public dont pay any attention to the lesser known guys, especially defensive focused ones
Unspoken thing: I think people rate NBA players differently if they don't see them as super athletic compared to whatever their target comparison is, so either Lebron or Ja or Zion. In other words, Jokic gets lower because he isn't running around posterizing and "bullying" his way to the rim with "dominance". You know the buzz words. Dirk and Gasol fit in that "not freak athlete" category, but the skill was off the charts.
I mean, if people paid attention to the Knicks last season they'd realize that the Knicks beat the Cavs in the regular season 3-1. The only game where the Knicks lost was when Kevin Love was still on their roster (something that came back to haunt them during the Heat series, among other things). Outside of that, the Knicks were always a really tough matchup for the Cavs. I don't think people give enough credit to that fact, especially when one considers Quickley & Grimes were offering NOTHING all series, RJ was buns offensively in Game 1, then buns on both sides in Game 2. Not to mention, Randle was hurt the entire playoffs with a pretty severe ankle sprain. The Knicks played pretty poorly and yet still beat the Cavs in decisive fashion. The Cavs, while having great players, were not THAT much better than Knicks roster wise.
I’m a new basketball fan (as of early 2020) and a Knicks fan from the UK. I can’t watch too many games due to the coverage and time zone difference but from the games I did watch Josh Hart is the ultimate team player. So far from the games I’ve watched he’s the most dedicated and committed member of the Knicks and I can kinda see why he jumped so much. I’m also starting basketball irl soon and I’m hoping to bring my team a similar impact to what Josh brings the knicks.
What makes these guys “experts.” I always think of that Kevin O’Connor dude from the ringer and I’m like there’s no way these dudes know what they’re talking about
Hey Kenny I got a ttw vid idea💡 you guys should try the hoops grid challenge on the pod but you guys pick 6 random teams. And whoever has a unique answer gets a point, and if two or more have the same player no one gets a point for that pick. Love the content btw
The average nba fan doesn't care about foreign players, especially non-english speaking ones. There's like 0 coverage around Franz, and there won't be until he's an all star. All others have attention.
I know im a knicks fan so ultimately what I said doesnt matter... But i think in this case it's not NY bias.. and moreso Recency bias.. Hart Brunson and Rj are all playing fiba... and playing well for the most part.. so they are fresh in the minds of the community
Challenge: Now do a rebuild and win a championship without anyone in the top 100 list. You have to win a championship the first year so no scouting or drafting to get a top 100 guy that isn’t currently in the league.
kenny i’ve always had this question who was that artist that made 3 mf doom pictures in the old Chicago apartment during the quiz days don’t know if any other ogs remember this?
I think the list is so offense heavy due to the format the question was asked. since they presented to players and said who’s better some people definitely picked who they think would win a 1 on 1 instead who’s better at 5 on 5 ball
It’s not the the fans have NY bias it’s that the BleacherReport “experts” don’t seem to watch them. Every other expert list has us closer to the BleacherReport fan list
My list: 1. Nikola Jokic 2. Stephen Curry 3. Giannis Antetokounmpo 4. Luka Doncic 5. Joel Embiid 6. Jayson Tatum 7. Kevin Durant 8. Anthony Davis 9. LeBron James 10. Jimmy Butler 11. Devin Booker 12. You should have the Enjoy Basketball writers do this with an algorithm player vs. player thing & then have a mass one sent out to people subscribed to the newsletter & compare them in-house
Tips to make a more visual spreadsheet, add titles for each column, add the rank on the left for fans and experts and a column for the team. Otherwise, fun as always
@@Leftback4000 thanks for proving my point. Only casuals look at a tiny sample size and act like it matters more than the huge sample size of him being absolutely garbage last season
jokic 4th is absurd LMAO. even if you're one of those people who think giannis is better, jokic is at worst a top 2 player in the league, the amount of people that needed to rank luka and steph over him for that to happen is crazy
Everyone is arguing in these comments but the question is “Who do you think will rank higher in the 23/24 season?” not “Who is the best player based off the 22/23 season?”
@@ztlabraptor211 no. because if jokic doesn’t win any accolades and the nuggets don’t make it far, that doesn’t mean jokic is no longer a top 5 talent. just like curry, giannis & luka having a bad season doesn’t rule them out from possibly being the best player next year. just because jokic is in his prime doesn’t mean he’s going to dominate and reign supreme over everyone. your “prime” point is so weak. what? aoas players can’t be stopped in their prime? or other players can’t have better season than a player in their prime? 2 players can’t be in their prime at the same time? 😂
@@double0double0 anything is possible, but nothing suggests a player who has both continuously gotten better year after year, has quite literally a flawless game at this point and who’s only argument against being the best player for the past several years has been team success, will suddenly fall down in ranking. It’s highly unlikely, so it’s rightfully being criticized.
@@ztlabraptor211 nothing? how about giannis? he was good in 2019, great in 2020 and won it all in 2021. how did jokic pop up and steal all of it? U seriously think that someone like giannis can’t take it to jokic and have an epic year? Or curry can’t have another crazy year after he’s proven time and time again that he’s that guy? Or you don’t think luka can enter his jokic level prime and drag his terrible team to a playoff run. Jokic is the best player right now but he also had the best team last year. You’re only as strong as your weakest link and even though he had a phenomenal year, the nuggets backed him just like every player who was the best player of the year before him. what happened to jokic last year was perfect timing unless the nuggets become a dynasty and jokic does what he did over again.
@@double0double0 Giannis has still been at minimum a consensus top 2 player every year. This list has Jokic at 4. And that’s with him stagnating while his peers have continued to improved. Do you see much improvement coming from mid 30s stars, or Giannis/ Embiid who have been the same player for a while ? And Denver was the best team because of Jokic. On paper ? That team isn’t even sniffing the playin without him. In practice ? They were a bottom 5 team when he wasn’t on the court. But even using that logic it’s the same team now but without Bruce brown.
Luka is starting to become one of the most overrated players. Amazing player but hasn’t accomplished anything close to Steph, Giannis or jokic but still get put above them constantly in these lists
He also hasn’t had teams anywhere close to those guys so far, and still has a WCF under his belt which is more than any of those guys at his age. For a list that’s supposed to be about rn it’s not unreasonable to have him up there
@@ztlabraptor211 I’m not saying he can’t accomplish that stuff eventually, but making a western conference finals doesn’t make you better than the last three finals mvps…
Curry chucks 7 more 3pts a game than Lebron but averages same points less rebound and assist with worse efficiency these new kids just riding Curry crazy
