Yes also I can see they used quad remesher. That will save you a huge fucking headache. Worth every penny because you don't have to lose your mental momentum as much.

Very impressive, focussed and experienced work! I'm an 3d artist too, but you are really really good. I liked the muscle part most. When I try it (I know where the muscles, too) I never find the right smoothing level like you. So I have to rework and rework again. In the end my (from scratch) chars are ok, too, - but with a lot of trial and errors. Seems you are very experienced. Did you have a reference on another screen? How long did this char estimated needed in real time? Plusminus? 👍🏻

There is an addon for Blender, called SimpleBake. It allows you to bake all your hipoly meshes to lowpoly mesh in one go. It can create one big pbr material with sets of needed textures for game engines. I use it for my characters or props, especially useful when required LOD1 or LOD2 meshes.

@@Goku-cr2bi i felt the same when i started with blender... i mean i am still a noob but my problem when i "retopoed" stuff was i made the faces waaaaaayyyy to small and i started at one point and tried to finish it all from that beginning point basically.. now i first do all "basic" loops like eyes, mouth, neck, shoulder, torso, arms, ect. and then i just fill up the parts. and if i struggle at one point on where or how to set up a pole i just go somewhere else and come back later... for me personally, this made retopology from beeing tedious and not feeling that good about what i did there to beeing a puzzle and the result is 10x better. i obviously dont know how you do it or how good you are at it but just as general advice maybe also for others: dont be affraid to make big faces you can loop-cut at any time or sub-div afterwards anyway.

You have this expedient ingenuity about your workflow. It's all goal-oriented and you aren't afraid to build up on the work of others. Cause I always have this quirk about my art that I just GOTTA make my own materials from scratch and shit, hair for example or even skin. It all slows down my workflow so much. Sometimes I even say to myself in jest: "why don't I go an extra mile and code the 3d software itself from scratch if I'm so up about it? Or maybe build the computer from scratch if I just GOTTA do it all myself?"

@@Mekhel I do not consider this art. The time and effort that went into creating the tools that enable this work are several orders of magnitude more than just using the tool. It's not like it is a simple paintbrush. It is a set of complex tools that make it much much easier to make stuff like this. When the "paintbrush" is more advanced than the painting it was used on, you no longer can talk about art.

You admire the devs more, but what has to do with demoting the skill and artistry of the creator? Who cares what You consider art? do you have anything good to show us of what you can create? Hello. Your work is so impressive. I discovered Blender about a week ago and with tutorials I'm starting to model. My first personal creation is a gameboy lowpoly. I didn't know that this software was so advanced. I've already seen speedpainting in 2D on Link's character for example, but here in 3D and with the attention to detail, it's amazing. FlyCat this is amazing! My team and I have really been struggling trying to make decent hair for our character. I was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how you do hair for you character? The things we are struggling with consist of: - Adding the hair cards to our character - Painting it the way you did at 40:35 (our character could use some changes in hair color, but how would this be exported as a texture to a game engine?) - Exporting the textures so they preserve the UV layout while also maintaining the paint and color changes we make to the hair. - Rigging the hair to our main mesh. I know this is a tall order, but I haven't seen that many tutorials on this and it would be a huge life saver if you could make a tutorial on this or write out directions on how to do this! We're trying to export from Blender to Unreal Engine. Please let me know! Kindest regards!

1 make particle hair strands 2 make them spline objects 3 place a plane behind the hair 4. use blender natural hair color bdsf 5 bake the hair to the plane texture enjoy a high fedelity hair card

There's a plugin called "Hair Tool for Blender" by Bartosz Styperek that I highly recommend for creating hair cards. It has a ton of features and is well documented. (Lots of video tutorials etc)

Hey sorry I am confused that this is a game ready character...I can see it has sub division on it....shouldn't game characters not have alot of polycount and this character is going to have a high poly count???

They do a retopology of all the clothes/body which lowers the poly count significantly overall

I have been in doubt of buying it - mostly since I do usually prefer to model my assets in a technically-correct-way, precisely because I don't enjoy retopology, but I do love sculpting, if only it can be more directly useful for final in-game-engine without having to manually retopo. Then, I don't know but after seeing it how smooth result it did produced, even while FlyCat used Dyntopo and even added and messed quite a lot of geometry while smashing pieces together to achieve final results. So definitely, I'm totally considering getting it now 😅👍

@@codeFriendlyART Its very worth it. Its great to get a base mesh for retopology as you then only have to modify the mesh where deformation will happen and the rest is already filled with quad remesher.

@@USBEN. Nice, yeah, really appreciate the info as well, but for the record, I know what retopology tools do for you while sculpting (old artist over here) what I'm not certain about is how good Quad Remesher actually is in an actual production modeling like shown in here.

Silly me @USBEN and @Alexander Cooney, for having my doubts about it but well, I guess it is not my fault that their authors are not the type who 'brags about' their stuff!.. However: 👉"an auto-retopologizer from the developer of ZBrush ZRemesher" 👈 - nothing more to say about how 'good' it is! In the past I sometimes opened ZBrush just to be able to use ZRemesher and then close it again 😅🤣 and to think it is from the very same developer... So I'm totally buying a perpetual pro license of it for Blender now. And if still in doubt, well, the Cinema4D version is not available anymore because recently Cinema4D themselves bought rights to have built in into it as well 😅 very nice!

I think for the paint metal material part over the leather, you can bake a material ID map from Blender then export to SP. So you can just assign the material by ID mask easily without painting much. Btw, Stunning work as usual

Hey ! Great video ! I was wondering, how does your modelled assets keep a good shape while smoothed/subdivided ? You don't seems to add bevel and stuff like that ? Wich seems to help a lot on not getting weird topoly while subdivided so you're able to sculpt correctly. Beside that, thank you, it really helps to see professionnal process like that.

Amazing work as always! A question: What decides whether you make the body with vertex modelling and already clean topology or with sculpting? I've seen you do both and not sure if you have a preference or was there a reason behind the choice in one video to the other.

Intended art style and especially shading/lighting. Specifically, imagine something like Fortnite or anime styled models: You'd want to model as much as possible, as "realistic lighting" is not the goal, rather "clean" lighting is. Thus, smooth topology that follows intended curves is of higher importance in these styles. With more photorealistic styles, or intended shading (her most recent video at present has an anime styled girl who uses more realistic shading), sculpting is typically faster and easier. While everyone is different, I'd propose that for most, sculpting anatomy is easier than modelling it. It's also usually MUCH faster. Sculpting has the advantage of creating noise and emulating realism, but at the cost of lack of consistency and smoothness, especially regarding curves. Imagine trying to sculpt the lower jaw of a purely anime inspired girl, the tiniest mistake or bump or divet throws everything off. Whereas with this barbarian, you wouldn't even notice such a mistake, as it can easily be an intentional wrinkle or bit of detailing. The cleaner and more uniform the topology needs to be (again, usually decided by how exactly you intend to light and shade the end result) the more merit there is to modelling it vertice by vertice from the get-go, because you can precisely position every vertice to light as you want it to. The more realistic you want it to be, the more merit there is to sculpting it and being able to freely layer in as many details as you want. There are other considerations than just the shading, but I'd say if we exclude an individual's personal comfort with either method, these are the dominant factors that weigh in favor of one method over the other.

Shouldn't be too much longer and UE5 will make the retopology step obsolete. It will help us speed up our workflow dramatically. Already loving it for static assets.

Amazing project! It was really interesting to see some of your design choices. The pattern design for the armor pieces was quite elegant for a barbarian. Celtic-style. The clothing textures and stitching turned out really nice. Overall, a job well done!

Awesome work. I like that you actually do all the modelling and sculpting in Blender instead of taking us all to Z Brush and a ton of other paid tools like so many other videos I have seen. I already have everything from Adobe but it becomes an expensive hobby when you throw a new machine with a decent GPU in..

How much do you charge, I would like you to make a character I have a little bit already made its the TX-Endoskeleton from terminator I made head torso and now I'm making the legs, it's shaped in the demensions properly after the legs just need some work on the details like eye socket nose mouth, arms and in the torso Can you make the final step the finishing, tell me a fair value

Would be inefficient to always model to body anew. He can basically model a female body once (especially the topology for animation), use it as a template and then adjust it to a different look.
