Thank you so much for that denoising flickering part! I was doing personal Archvis projects and when i rendered a small test animation with low resolution, it was causing that flickering thing. I read that denoising is ironically causing it and so i thought that making samples high is the best option (for me, 2000 samples is producing no noise without denoiser). But it is taking almost two hours to render per frame lol so I have to use render farm. I needed to make sure if sampling count is indeed the problem, and your video made it clear!

PS i guess you also dig that those lightgroups in E-cycles. Really hope Blender allows this to come into Blender. Ive seen some posts that they have been tinkering about this implementation. Its so handy, i used such aability in a different render engine. You can basically make super nice light animation with just still 1 still render.

For turning light ON/OFF what i do is just go to shader editor, turn on use nodes and make 2 emission nodes one with the ON power value and one with zero just switch them with CTR+SHIFT+LEFT CLICK. BTW your work is amazing. Next level details....

What is the downside for the point light at 12:12 when you adjust the ray length like that?

Hey.. i think when it comes to lighting the scene.. everything gets messed up.. im speaking for myself though here.. i couldn’t get it right how hard i try.. and also i believe the scale of the objects also matter to the light intensity.. I wish you could give in depth view to light a scene to realism. And awesome work 👏

Was using KCycles for my denoising (it's pretty good for well lit scenarios) but kept running into that odd gummie, flickering that blender produces on renders. Your info has helped and is much appreciated. Was trying to avoid higher samples as the render times are upwards of 2:13 per frame (with a 3090). Here's my question, have you tried denoising in an external program like Davinci Resolve?

include exclude feature of lights for objects is really a big missing feature from blender. Really hope they make it happen soon.

Could you disable the light in renders until you want to use it? Maybe that is not quite the functionality you are looking for
@imeshh
@imeshh 3 года назад
Sadly that is still the issue that it is hidden and you have to then find it in your collections of you want to turn it on again, or atleast in the viewport. But I think I'm making a way bigger deal of this than is needed actually 😂. I think I should code an on and off button ;)

for the light, you can just give the glass a diffuse shader for shadow rays with a mix shader, then it does not actually cast any light, and no noise, and the source is still visible, or you give is transparent for shadow rays then it actually does cast light and shadows without any noise. but this is a year old tut so this tidbit might not be very helpful :D rayleghts is very interesing though, never used it... i bet you can do some really fancy stuff with it
@imeshh
@imeshh 2 года назад
Hi, Sorry but I think you are incorrect.. Unless im mistaken, you're talking about the point light(or emission shader) inside the glass ball (ceiling light)? Glass shader going into a mix node with a diffuse shader, and using light path node shadow ray output into the mix node. This still casts light into the scene, because there are also glossy, reflection and refraction rays going into the scene, all casting noise Unless you have an example of what you mean? Additionally, plugging ray length into the emission shader is easier than making multiple nodes for the glass like in my tutorial?
@RomboutVersluijs
@RomboutVersluijs 3 года назад
Cycles doesnt have actual fake like options on physical light or does it? I think your solution is quite nice and relatively simple. Most times light inside refractive objectes are a NIGHTMARE for render engine. The caustics need so many passes, its just insane

Could'nt imagine lighting a scene without the light option include/exclude , in real archviz studios most art directors/clients likes to art direct lighting, make this only part light this kind of light. or this part dont include to the main light all sorts of crazy stuff btw in our studio we use max+corona+vray. and for the denoiser all engines dont do frame interpolation for the denoising when it comes to animation frames that is why your frames are jumping all around using a low aa samples.
@imeshh
@imeshh 2 года назад
Oh absolutely, i use Vray daily in a studio and light linking is a huge part of the workflow. Especially for reducing noise. And yeah the OID version in blender wasn't very good with animations however the later version fixes this problem which is great

What are realistic environment light number settings, sun lamp settings etc
@imeshh
@imeshh 3 года назад
Unfortunately it really depends on the scene :/ if it is small windows you might need larger numbers. It also depends on the brightness of the HDR
@mrfeathers3938
@mrfeathers3938 3 года назад
@@imeshh do you don’t try to make physically accurate to real world? You just make it extremely bright outside?
@imeshh
@imeshh 3 года назад
@@mrfeathers3938 well ideally you would try to make it physically accurate, but HDRIs are not always made with their base brightness value to the same level. So it's impossible to say that a HDRI should be set to a certain value. Unless the HDRI has been set to a very specific standard such those HDRIs made by 3D Collective which tell you the ideal camera settings and only to have the HDRI set to a value of 1. Such as setting the aperature, exposure, shutter speed and ISO. But to do that in Blender you need to use an Add-on, and even then you have to reply on the person who made the add-on to have all the correct lighting values. These settings come by default in 3DS though, and with my experience the 3DS camera settings still look different to the Blender Add-ons settings, even with the same values. If you're just using the sun, then the real world sun has up to 100,000 Lux which is about 1000w/m2 (ish) So that is physically correct... But then you need the environment light strength... I believe the Nishita Sky that comes with the later versions of Blender is probably going to be the most accurate in terms of sky brightness. Id recommend checking that out
@mrfeathers3938
@mrfeathers3938 3 года назад
@@imeshh yes I’ve noticed the updated sky node is wayyyy better looking than a sun lamp. I have an add on that calculates where the hdri sun is located and places a sun lamp exactly where the hdri sun is so I can control the brightness of the sun and the brightness of the sky individually
@imeshh
@imeshh 3 года назад
@@mrfeathers3938 Oh that is a cool addon! At least you can then adjust it how you like! What is the name of this one? :) You got me interested thought, and I just wanted to check I'm not just making it up but I found this article which mentioned what I said, that ideally the best setting for a HDRI is 1, but sadly that is not how it works in Blender a lot of the time, and with low quality HDRIs blog.gregzaal.com/2016/02/23/what-makes-good-hdri/

But isnt it confusing having lights off but still being visible. Say you tunbred a couple off, with that addon its almost impossbile job. One would need to go over all lights and check the settings, i think that is pro of it. The switching addon does allow for much faster workflow i guess, thats nice as well

Sorry I haven't had chance to look at your other messages yet, but in 3DS the lights are always highlighted in yellow (I think) and when you turn them off they turn grey to show they are deactivated so you don't need to worry about them and know they are off. Which is cool :)
@RomboutVersluijs
@RomboutVersluijs 3 года назад
@@imeshh yeah that is handy. But this blender addon does the same as what the outliner does?! So the only difference is that they are more neatly collected in that panel right?
@imeshh

@@RomboutVersluijs is this the photographer plugin? Yeah it's just specifically organised for lights so it still functions like the outlier but a lot more accessible at least
@RomboutVersluijs
@RomboutVersluijs 3 года назад
@@imeshh that's 3ds approach sounds nice. Problem is such an approach would conflict how blender highlights selected items and none selected items. But I do think something like that would be nice. Perhaps also something to toggle them on/of I. The 3dviee on the object itself

well, 60fps is personal preference... from the very young we watch cinema production in around 24fps so the jelly look of 60fps for some people feels odd & unnatural as it's perceived as gaming, not real life footage ;)
@imeshh
@imeshh 3 года назад
Haha I think I have the very opposite feeling. The first time I watched an ordinary TV show in 60fps it felt too real and broke the cinema feeling. As if the actors were real. I believe it is similar to the Soap Opera Effect
@imeshh
@imeshh 3 года назад
But then again, I rarely play high FPS games so maybe that is the difference
@RomboutVersluijs
@RomboutVersluijs 3 года назад
Why not add all those camera adjustments to a single object. Now when yo need to adjust it, you need to select other parts, whereas a single object would show 1 list with all items.
