Blender Geometry Nodes to Mesh & Export as FBX

As many of you guys have been asking how to convert the geometry nodes to meshes and export those as FBX/OBJ files... so, here I have created a quick video explaining a workaround for that.
For now, I find this way best to do it. Hopefully in future, we will have a better way.
If you guys have other ways/suggestions, please mention in comments.

When I made this video, this was the only solution.. However, now in Blender3.6, you can directly just apply the geo node modifier and the mesh will be converted with all UVs intact.

Thanks for these great geonode tutorial videos - they're super helpful! Would it be possible for you to do a video on how you instanced those prefabs like that? I'm new to Unity and having trouble finding out how to propagate plant details without using the terrain details system.

I have multiple objects that use the same "Geometry Nodes. When I use the realize the "Make Instances Real" on one of the objects everything looks good, but when I join the meshes suddenly random meshes appear near the other objects that I didn't use the "Make Instances Real" button on. Any idea what might cause that?

My problem is when I try to join the geometry each realized instance creates a duplicate of the original object and also ignores the stem... As a workaround I have to export all the individual objects as an FBX, then join them in the target program for the export. I also had to disconnect all the instances from the stem in the geometry node object and then make a separate mesh out of it and export that as well.

Very cool, thanks. I was about to ask the same question too, but you beat me to it with the answer. Good work! 2 things I'd add: setting the origin point, and resizing then applying all transforms. Blender scale is 1 square = 1m I think or something similar so your flowers are actually 10m tall :D

May be this will help... "When you are exporting as FBX, set the scale to "FBX unit scale".

hi so I tried the "make instances real" method for my own mesh - it's a cylinder mesh with icosphere instances - but it just makes many copies of the main cylinder mesh? is there an instance setting for the main mesh object that I need to disable or something? thanks!

If you have multiple parts which have same geo nodes sharing the same object, you will need to duplicate and rename the object for other parts. Then apply "make instance real" for the original part.

little late... but would this method work if I want to transfer the UV coordinates of an alembic file? need to texture fur with a map I made in substance... and blender has no trouble, but other programs do not recognice UV coordinates at all :( any hopes this could work to export alembics and keep the map with the colors in it?

no geometry nodes does not allow products to be sold, only traditional modelling will work

so... In unity you use prefabs... unity prefabs use instancing to populate objects throughout your scene in order to save memory/ recources/ calculations. Great technique. But originally the prefab itselfe consisted of instanced object, which we had to "make real" in order to make it exportable as an .fbx In that step a level of instancing (and resource saving ) got sacraficed to make it exportable to unity. it would be extremely fantastic if we could somehow preserve also the blender.level of instancing and transfer that to unity. So instead of "just" having a level full of instanced prefabes we could have a level full of instanced prefabs, that are ALREADY consisting of instances itself this would save up memory/ recources/ calculations MASSIVLY Am I concluding right here? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

UNREAL has support for procedural nodes from Houdini for a long time and someone has developed a node support from Blender as well.. Hopefully, Unity will get that kind of support soon.
