Blender Star Wars Animation : Star Wars Return Of The Jedi Let's rush into the Death Star! HD

I learned a lot by animating some of the scenes of "Return of the Jedi", which is the pinnacle of motion control cameras, miniatures, and optical compositing, with Blender. ILM is amazing.
Please understand that there are some sloppy shots because I have too much trouble in how to make the scene chased by the blaze of the reactor explosion look like it.
I also tried to play with scenes that I would never see in an actual movie.
This time I added a fun shot as a bonus.
Music, sound FX are not my own.

I always felt bad for the guy in the Tie Interceptor. I mean after the Rebels took out the generator it was over and he was just trying to get out but was stuck behind some hillybilly space truck.

Love the idea of Wedge closing his s-foils to get through that gap where the Falcon lost it's comms dish.

To say that you accurately matched the look of the original film is an understatement. This is one of the best blender recreations of a Star Wars clip I have ever seen! Bravo!!

I would be thrilled if a new Star Wars movie used the camera movement style of the original trilogy's starfighter battles. Your video has convinced me that this style of cinematography is still impactful and effective. It would be great to see it used in a modern context.

Well done. Very nice. And you've helped me to notice not one but two details from the original that I've somehow missed over countless viewings: 1) Wedge closing his s-foils when things got tight 2) The Y-wing fighter with the other ships In fact, it's funny - I saw the Y-wing in yours, and immediately assumed it was creative license, since I KNOW there was no Y-Wing flying into the Death Star superstructure. And then I went back and watched the original and confirmed - there WAS a Y-wing involved.
@n.w.1803
@n.w.1803 Год назад
Right? You said exactly what I was gonna say..except that I saw Wedge close up his wings before and always got tickled by that little detail...and I like that the Y-wing isn't so slow as all the video games make out. Look at it's monster engines! It must do all right. And I like seeing the engine exhaust glow on all the ships at the original color values (bluish white for the Falcon, pure primary magenta red on the X-wing, etc); for some reason they get screwed up on all the re-releases and editions. I don't know why, but that bugs me.

Thank you for that tiny detail that I didn’t notice until the 2011 blu-ray release Wedge closing the S-Foils in his X-Wing when the gap was getting too small at one point Bravo

This is my all-time favourite scene. I would love to see this redone (and synched with the original sound effects) and reincorporated into the movie. The only qualms I have is that there needs to be more sense of speed. The shots on the Death Star surface; the ships just seem to be "gliding", as opposed to be zigging and zagging, and the ships needs to move faster. Other than that, it's brilliant!

@Ricoxemani

Yeah I feel like one of the things new technology has done is made things filmmaking related much more accessible. Back in the day if you wanted to shoot any kind of a high quality image, you need to pay a fuck ton of money to shoot 16mm or 35mm. Now, you can just get yourself a cheapo dslr that records onto an sd card and still have something that looks pretty decent. Or hell, you don't even need any cameras at all to make stuff! You can just replicate the work of tons of artists at ilm who literally had to invent new technology, using just your computer and free open source software.

Not bad. Cool proof of concept. Never did get the sense of speed vs the OG. I'm wondering if it's your camera moves. Still, I only have a bg in compositing/editing. Felt too dark for me haha but yeah, I'm impressed b/c this is more than I could ever do haha.

This is insanely good! It looks almost just like the real movie. Some parts almost look better. Its amazing how one person on a computer now can replicate the work of a huge vfx studio in the 80s How did you go about modeling all the scenery? Is any of it procedural? Also you did an amazing job capturing the cinematography/visual style of the original film. It's very hard to make something feel like an older movie with modern cgi, so I'd love to know more about how you went about all of this.
