What happens when you load 2 lbs of thermite in to a Blender? Will it blend or will it explode! That's the question with this experiment. Don't try this at home! We are professionals! Slow motion clips are filmed with Chronos 1.4 high speed cameras www.krontech.ca

Since the fine thermite dust suspended in air seemed to create a really cool effect, how about making a "Thermite Flamethrower 5000000" that feeds thermite from some sort of tank into the air in a fine dust cloud? Could probably do it by modifying a vacuum cleaner set to the "blow mode"

Now you should try the same thing but with flour. Flour explosion!
@neurhlp
@neurhlp 5 лет назад
you need to preheat it, or use pure oxygen, otherwise flour fails to detonate (it burns without detonation)
@neurhlp
@neurhlp 5 лет назад
also: using oxygen with flour is stupidly dangerous
@randombloke82
@randombloke82 5 лет назад
neurhlp not even slightly. Before people figured this out, flour silos used to explode spontaneously with some regularity as they got closer to being empty. Basically get a fine enough powder or vapour of anything even vaguely flammable (works with concrete and/or brick dust if you grind it fine enough) and the right proportion of air and you can get a boom.

Very interesting that there were actually three explosions there. 1 the airborne powder, 2 the rest of the powder, then 3 much later the glass. Looks like the glass broke from the sudden temperature change rather than the force of the thermite exploding.

Really interesting how there were actually two explosions! You can see this on the black and white slow-mo camera. First, all the spinning dust explodes, which sends the lid off and is the big explosion, but the glass for the blender is actually still ok. Then, all the remaining thermite in the bottom of the blender explodes, which breaks the glass.
