I know you are excited about BlenderBIM but your voice is really fast for beginners even intermediate blender users. people want to follow your tutorial
Very enlightening! Congratulations on your didactics, in a short time I learned what I had been postponing for many months to learn. A great kick-start to use open-source tools at work.
This is a great service to architects trying to adopt Blender. You make it seem like a fun idea to work with BIM in Blender. Thank you for your service 😊
Hi again, I managed to fix the spaces, but now I am having a problem with floors. Firstly there is no IFCslabs listed in my project and as I create one it is not editable the way you are teaching here. I cannot move the edges so I tried to extend them but the result seems to be wired and not reasonable.
Hi @hfpv2003 If you have any issues I'd recommend posting on the OSArch community thread here: community.osarch.org/discussion/1240/blenderbim-beginner-tutorial-step-by-step-project-part-1-modelling/p1?new=1 And others including my self can assist you!
Hi, thanks for this video. I added the spaces and saved the file and all was fine but next day i noticed that all my spaced are gone! Also last week i added furnitures usong blenderkit addon but that was missing after saving and reopening! This is really frustrating. Do tou know why?
Thank-you for this wonderful resource series. Fantastic !! One question if I may? How do I move my roof slabs and beams from my Building to my Story container? Had a lot of problems with deleted objects continuing to show up in 2d drawings Turned off all add-ons except Blenderbim now works like a dream.
Hey Peter, great to hear its working! The proper way to change it is something I often forget You need to change the spatial container of the slab found here: 1. Select the slab 2. Go to: Object Properties / IFC Object Metadata / IFC Spatial container 1. click on the pencil icon for "Enable editing container" 2. Select the appropriate container 3. And click the check box so it has a tick/check 4. Click "Assign container" If that doesn't work out you can inquire further on the OSArch community page found here: community.osarch.org/discussion/1240/blenderbim-beginner-tutorial-step-by-step-project-part-1-modelling/p1?new=1 And more people including myself can help
First than all, thank you so much for sharing these videos, they are really informative. Secondly, this might seem silly, but how to save the changes after editing the slab edges? I press shift+q but I am still on editing mode... There is another way to save the changes to the slab? Again, thank you.
Thanks for the video. Firstly I am not so sure why my comments are missing here?! As I mentioned before, it seems that BlenderBim does not work for me! I am facing many problems over and over. As I save a project and reopen it, all my elements get screwed up. For example some of my walls get duplicated or some get shortened or even missing altogether! I am about to give this up altogether. For the last effort, I may pay for archipack add-on to see if it works better and if that is also problematic I am going to drop Blender altogether.
Hi Taraf, There will be a pretty large update and up to date tutorial in a week or so, that should make this easier if you are willing to wait, this tutorial is a bit older and BlenderBim has changed names to Bonsai for Blender 4.2 and newer
HI that is just a custom view I saved with the layout you see in the videos, you can set it up yourself and it shouldn't stop you from using any of the tools in BlenderBIm. I do it in this video at this timestamp: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PNoOyCHa_V0.html
please help - making progress, followed the instructions to the letter but when i load the .IFC library and unhide the 'eyecon', nothing happens - it remains inactive - i can see it, but i can't interact with it - is it me or is it a bug [Blender 4.2.1 LTS, Bonsai v0.8.0]
Hi, thanks for giving out so much information. For me may be too fast. At 6:16 minutes On the Property panel one can see the porperties of the office Box. When i compare it to your ifc propect that i open in my blender all the ifc properties are missing. Is there an easy solution for this. Thanks and best wishes. KP
Hi Klaus, since this video has been released there have been a number of updates, the properties and all information has moved to the scene properties panel with dedicated panels, you can see the update here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tpQjRjB1wnU.html I will be redoing this tutorial this year to give an updated set
It seems there's been a new release and a lot of this is deprecated. I'm trying to follow your metadata settings for the room but it's no longer where it is in this video. It would be great if you would consider releasing an updated version of this video as this is rather hard to follow now for a complete beginner.
Hi!. I was following the tutorial, but I don't have in Active Tool the options RL, Height, Length, Xangle. Neither the IFCtype visualitation. Instead of "Wall 100" I have "DEMO1". I don't know what is happening, but I is difficult to work in that way
Hi Desurbe, I think you are using an older version of Blenderbim, try and update to the latest release and it should be sorted. You can check out the how to install blenderbim video on the channel on how to update it
Hi Peter, Here's the process: 1) Select the Bim tool 2) Select the wall 3) Place your 3d cursor on the wall 4) Press shift-O (an opening should spawn) 5) select the opening 6) hold shift + select the wall in the N-panel 7) click apply opening Hope that helps!
Hi Tonni you don't have to apologise, You can currently model with Blenders default tools and classify any mesh as any ifc class, This video just shows how to model parametrically with IFC standards in mind, it strictly follows building smarts definitions of different classes and that's why it is how it is at the moment, so if you dont mind losing the parametric geometry there is no other downside. however if you have any recommendations you can discuss them here on the OSARch community page: community.osarch.org/discussions
@IfcArchitect Nice! I'm just thinking about make a mixed process of develop, using the cad software that I have, to read IFC and make the docummentation. I was thinking about, do the start desing by the floor plan, than make the 3d modeling, agregate the ifc properties, and export it to Ares commander, to read the IFC properties.
@@tonnicruz2306 If that workflow is efficient for you I'm sure many people would like to hear about it on the OSArch community: community.osarch.org/discussions We are always looking for new a practical methods
Could you make a more detailed tutorial on how to add the walls? I watched the other one, but I'm really lost when using shift+E to change the walls place. shift+A to add a wall works fine.. But to where shift+E extends feels random to me, I didnt understand how it works... Thanks for the video!
Like I mentioned on the other comment I think this is a bug,I'd reccomend installing a different version of blender with the only addon being Blenderbim and reporting the bug to the github page: github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/issues
Hi Justin yes! Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, as you said it's in: 1) scene properties -> 2) Geometry and materials -> 3) Parametric geomerty - > 4) array modifier And I believe you need to have an object selected to use it
Hi! apologies for the delay, that version is alright. You might be missing a step of selecting the wall (host )before/while adding the door or window. Let me know if that works out
The door can be adjusted in a few ways, 1. You can edit the door in edit mode and regenerate the opening, (the downside of this is that it will change all doors using that ifctype) You can see me edit a door swing here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PNoOyCHa_V0.html It works the same for the 3d model geometry 2. You can change the instance of the door to a different ifctype that is already a different size. You can see me swap out a swing door for a sliding door here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xWPLZK_WoS8.html I hope that helps, otherwise the developers are currently working on a modifier tool that allows you to create windows of any size and configuration I think that will also become a door tool in the future. I will definitely cover it in a video in the future
It should work with many combinations of Blender and Blenderbim But I would reccomend: Blender 3.6 And BlenderBim 20230701 Are the latest, It looks a bit different but you can follow the tutorial and make the house, just check the description for the updated resources
Hi VY, when you download the addon you need to use the version with the applicable python version, I believe 2.93 using python 3.9 so you should download that version of the addon
Hi Paulo, perhaps try this video as the starter it can give you a slightly different workflow: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-agwK8hbkToM.html
Not at the moment, it has been requested on the OSArch community site, but the developer of archipack would need to reconfigure their addon to use Ifc as far as I am aware this is like rebuilding it from scratch, you can read more here: community.osarch.org/discussion/146/ And here: community.osarch.org/discussion/139/
Hi Loctuan, I cant say for certain what caused the issue but I have a few suggestions. I think make sure your version of BlenderBIm matches the python version, so if you are using Blender 4.1, you need to use the appropriate 'py311' version of blenderbim. Separately, try and start a fresh Ifc file and see if it has the same issue. And thirdly, the user interface has changed since this tutorial so have a look here if its just in a different place: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tpQjRjB1wnU.html
I've replied to you other comment but here it is again Not at the moment, it has been requested on the OSArch community site, but the developer of archipack would need to reconfigure their addon to use Ifc as far as I am aware this is like rebuilding it from scratch, you can read more here: community.osarch.org/discussion/146/ And here: community.osarch.org/discussion/139/
I think the add on has no sense anymore? In Blender 4.0 the metadata in the object properties does not exist, and all the other stuff is more complicated as it was without the add on. Is anybody still using it?
Hi Giotto, I will be updating this tutorial for Blender 4 because of how much it has changed but people are definitely using Blenderbim more than ever and the metadata has just moved to the scene properties tab
What do you need help with? You can ask in detail on the OSArch community thread: community.osarch.org/discussion/1240/blenderbim-beginner-tutorial-step-by-step-project-part-1-modelling/p1?new=1
Hi MrLelopes! There are fairly large changes happening for the next update at the end of August so I will be updating the tutorials after that drops. If you want to pick it up again after the next stable update would be a good time. If you want to start right now, I would recommend Blender 4.1 + Blenderbim 24.06.02, that should give you a stable experience.
I am a beginner and this was way too fast and not basic enough. Which says I am a dummy or it is more of an intermediate video series. Maybe a couple videos should be added to the beginning of this playlist for us who are really beginners and for others they can skip them.
Hi Bentley, this series assumes you know a foundation of Blender + have a good understanding of Architecture / Building. If there were particular parts that tripped you up, let me know where and I'll try adjust the next time this series is updated
I am a real beginner for one month so it is a lot to learn. I am more interested in the architecture and landscape part of Blender. Maybe for the noobs maybe a series of videos that breaks it down into small parts as: video 1)an overview of BlenderBim parts and tools; video 2) make six wall house that has inside/outside corners with no doors or windows then go through the tools for this and issues to watch out for and how to fix, maybe finishing-stucco, siding, etc or would doing the finishing be its own video; video 3) add a door with frame, molding, materials and hardware, the direction of swing and issues to watch out for and how to fix; video 4) add windows- types, fixed, openable, materials, etc, and issues to watch out for and how to fix; Video 5)..... well you get the idea, make videos that add on to the previous ones. Try and think in the way when you started out what you needed to see so you don't say what, what, what was that, oh man I quit. It is easy to do things fast because it is muscle memory and you don't have to think. It is like when I trained people to run equipment they had to stop me and say explain what you are doing so they understood why I was doing what I was doing. Yes, it seems to you to be tedious but that is what the videos you make are for us beginners else ones that know how don't need to watch them. Getting started with Blender this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-At9qW8ivJ4Q.html will help, then follow up with yours.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qHG3qNjN1K4.html ....Can the drawing method used in this video still be used in the latest version of Blnderbim ?
That method can no longer be used. Since that version the drawing module and the entire BlenderBim addon has been rebuilt and it works in a fundamentally different way now, (the methods I showcase in my videos) , overall it is constantly changing and so it's good to look at the latest videos to see what is still relevant. If you have any other questions ask here otherwise you can also ask on the OSArch community website found here: community.osarch.org/discussions Hope that helps!
