Man, that’s rough. They asked for proof, you gave it to them, and then they continued to accuse you???? They should’ve maybe taken a breath and calmed down then come back instead of getting so angry. Glad nothing happened to you! Also, love your new model!! 🥰💕🙏
The "I was wrong, so I better scream louder to hide it" defense. All too prevalent in current year. They were just so excited to have something to make drama over that they refused to let it go.
I'm incredibly sad for you that an artist whose style you liked so much as to choose it as a focal point for imitation and learning rejected you like that. Don't let them tear you down! Your work is adorable and you are clearly improving rapidly. I'm glad I subscribed a while back and I am excited to see where you go in the future :)
i thought this at first, but then i saw the other 3d modeler's work. it really looks like an exact copy of the "inspiration" artist's work, not just similar, so selling stuff is kinda ehh. it's not fun for an artist to see another person making profit off of something with an art style that is clearly heavily referenced from and is nearly identical to what they're selling. they should've asked for permission first tbh. i'm glad that blep is transitioning to their own art style, though.
@@cazyislazy9380 sorry, blep didn't state it in the video w/ reasons listed, and I want to respect that. it's not hard to find if you're looking for it, though. i hope you understand ^^
@@cazyislazy9380 I’ve seen quite a bit of artworks where the art style is pretty similar to one another (probably because of same hair shading or eye shape).
Personally as an incognito artist… it is very grating when people copy my style. I can say nothing about it but every time i see something on my timeline and do a double take bc it has all my signature traits it makes me feel so worn out… I took time to develop my style, to be distinct in a competitive market. Is it not understandable why some see it as disrespectful? It’s fine to be inspired by parts or certain elements but THE WHOLE THING? Disrespectful.
Some artists tend to have a big stick up theirs and claim anyone and anything even resembling their style to be stolen … they should just be flattered instead of spending tons of money for useless lawsuits
That's ruff that the artist you looked up to seemed to have a bone to pick with you. And that they kept digging a hole trying to pursue legal action when in the end, they were just chasing their tail. In all seriousness, I'm glad it got sorted out and that you can continue making content. Love the new model and love watching you grow and learn!
I doubt they can afford a legal team. Court cases are usually just a matter of who throws the most money at the court wall to win. It's a waste of money (Unless you are a lawyer, then you make money) for a stupid system that is encouraged upon by the American society (hate something? sue them).
I know the feel when someone you look up to goes completely ballistic. Tried to buy some art from someone I won't name (pre-made shop items btw), 6 months passed without anything being shipped. I emailed them after 1 and 3 months, no response. After 6 months I sent them a tweet about it, got a super hostile "I already answered you". That email answer was timestamped after their own tweet saying they answered... Love the art but I won't buy from them anymore.
Truth be told tho, no one can steal a style. That artist would of lost anyways lol 😂 i’m sorry an artist you looked up to went psycho and ruined your perception of them. What they did was unprofessional and seriously uncalled for. I love your works ^^
I absolutely love your work. I wouldn't look up to that other person anymore either. I guess that goes to show that when I finally get into 3d modeling like i mean to do, if I want to try to learn from others, I'll ask for permission to try and learn from artists' works before I dive in. One of my friends is looking to learn about making models like these and I showed her your videos. In particular, she seems most interested in yours the most so far out of the things i have shown for tutorials and options and such. However, we haven't actually started anything, and we don't know what we're doing. I'll let her know that if she tries to learn from what she saw you do, she'll ask first so that we won't have any mishaps. Of course, neither you nor us wants any drama, so I;m sure there wouldn't be anything. Plus, my friend has an art style already, but we both just enjoy kawaii things.
Chibis are chibis man, there is only so much variation you can do anyway, and I also don't mind people taking inspiration from me at all ^w^ I recommend checking out a book called "Beginners guide to drawing manga chibi girls", really helped me just to know how the artstyle can work !!
The second you sell something people obviously can learn from it and use the item you sold. They don't own a style 🤷♀️ sounds they are just being mean and upset for nothing. It's not your fault you learned without college and art school! You keep doing you and thank you for not gate keeping knowledge and wanting to help others learn hugs!!!!
i'm really glad nothing ended up happening! love the new model and glad you feel confident enough to show off old mistakes (': really look forward to your process videos! i've been wanting to make my own model for quite a while but it's so scary starting with no 3d modeling knowledge whatsoever and a chibi is still a whole entire person(-shaped creature)! super grateful to you for sharing your knowledge!!!!
I’m so glad for the happy ending!! You’re amazing and I look up for you for learning and being willing to teach what you know and keep learning, please never give up, you’re amazing!!
I been through the same thing as you and the first thing they did is post it on their stories and instead of talking to me and that led to harassing me which ended to change me entire art style and now I'm more anxious to post my art. So rip and for if you are wondering No I didn't steal or trace their art I just used a smaller color Patel and the hair was from k-pop idol but they kept saying I'm thief so I guess I am xD but I'm happy for you!!! Keep up your great work much loveee ❤❤❤
If you're worried about doing something wrong when drawing and taking inspiration - just read about copyright laws and how it all works. Color pallettes can be a tricky thing, so depending on your situation exactly it could've been copyright infringement! And at the end of the day don't worry about harrassment, even though it can make you anxious. Some people will find ways to be annoyed at things even for seemingly no reason, so just keep ur head high and make sure you're not doing anything wrong on your end ^w^
Chances are, if you've done your researching and can follow their trend of art style... They copied it from someone else. And, colors and styles alone technically can't be infringed as a copyright... First, the rights holder has to REGISTER that with a association or organization that manages copyrights first. If they aren't a registered copyright holder, their accusation is moot, and you can sue them for libel if they caused you financial or mental harm. Remember the whole 'Scrolls' spat between Mojang and Bethesda because the latter has trademark for 'Elder Scrolls' and saw them as a threat. America is just very dumb and brainwashed these days unfortunately, the legal system is no better, there's plenty of videos or documentary covering this.
"copy artists but don't copy one" If you do that you shouldn't have to worry. If you like how one artists draws eyes and how another one draws lips, use those as references.
Poor Blep :( ... I understand being an artist and finding stuff online that was stolen from you. It really sucks, but when someone comes out and says "No, I didn't steal it" and then shows you proof that they didn't, then you have to change how you have that discussion. The BEST way you learn is by "copying" something that has already been done. All you did was use their art as a reference. Almost every successful artist uses references all the time. They should not get mad at you for that, they should be flattered that they were the one you looked to for guidance. I wish you the best on your artist journey! Don't give up, you are very talented and will go on to do great things!
This is generally why I don’t make normal character design or even take inspiration from other artist work it will go down hill with the slightest resemblance anything even generally normal characters with brown hair and brown eyes and a tail someone else can say that you took it and it sucks that you have to change your design but this model is super cute and I glad you fix the problems from your old model
Not sure who you are, but I'm happy you didn't get sent to court because you're helping small vtuber content creators get a boost in their career. I've been meaning to make a VTuber character myself for the channel I'm revitalizing...but I still cannot understand how to use the software you've made some tutorials on.
I know who is the artist, I also bought a model from her, but just because they are chibis doesn't mean that you stole her style, they are not the same, you are not stealing, her base model looks totally different from yours! also the expressions are different, so I'm glad the artist didn't sue you! you are the best! I am also learning how to use blender (today was my day 1 HAHAHA), and I love chibis as well, I hope in 2 years I will be able to make my own chibi models to sell
Cant believe they threatened you, how low can they get.... Though im glad your doing good and love the new model. Your tutorials have given me an amazing start into modelling. keep up the awesome work!!!!
Love your content, even if it's about almost being sued. Your improvement over 2 years is impressive and has motivated me to pick up my drawing hobby again
Looking forword to seeing the videos on how you made your current model. I've been thinking about learning blender to make my own model, but it feels like so much and it's hard to know where to start. I also like how you are coming into your own art style. It's cute!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i foound your account today and you inspired me to make my vtuber the same chibi and art style like you but more in my interest and my own aesthetic or idk how to explain it but i will definitely credit you for the inspo and KNOW THAT i look up to youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
oh man I feel like big artists are either prissy gate keepers who try to take down small artists with similar styles and there's the incredibly nice, caring, and understanding ones no in between XD also was it hamuketsu? man I love their models but damn didn't know they were like that lmao unless it's not them cause I couldn't find a tweet about you on their page 😅
I'm glad nothing happened in the end. Your Model looks very good. It's very smart to use a good 3d model as reference, especially for the topology, when you're new to working in 3d. Honestly the whole situation just show's the other artist in a bad light and I hope they regret reacting like that. You did an amazing job with your models!
the new model is genuinely one of the cutest thing i have ever seen i can not get over it. literally freaking out. "art style theft" is absolutely not a thing, and "tracing" a specific part of a model isnt even a bad thing. art theft is a whole different thing than "style theft." no two styles are the same, even if they look similar. referencing is a great point for artists to start from and as they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery. honestly i am so glad that nothing ended up going too downhill, and im so happy that youre starting to find your own style. i havent been watching for long but you have helped me so much in my vtubing journey and i hope you achieve your vtubing dreams. :) genuinely so sorry this happened to you and i hope both you and the artist are doing better now.
There's so many ways the edges can flow when you get an efficient topology, but trying to claim one of the more optimized forms is a bit of a stretch. If you're willing to show your work that it's inspired rather than a vertex for vertex direct dupe, then they should give you somewhat of a break. Also the whole 3D graphics field in general owes a lot to the innovators that for whatever reason didn't patent lock algorithms early on. If they didn't make their work open or public domain, we wouldn't have progressed anywhere near to the point where we are now. (Most of those names are on the algorithms used in topology work and texturing, and they're still working for big names in the field. For instance all poly smoothing has Catmull and Clark's name on it, and they're working for Pixar. And guys like Penrose and Musgrave are still doing their things out there too, etc. The fact that a lot of big render engines got opened up too is just icing on the cake.)
I’m sorry this happened to you, Blep. I’ve had to deal with this kind of thing before. But a hundred bad days made a hundred good stories. This is the first video i watched on your channel and I really enjoyed it very much. You earn my sub.
To my understanding it seems super common in artist circles that popular artist that many people tend to look up to. Seem to be super hard about being 'copied' and accusing anyone who aspires to their style or reference as lesser somehow. So I'm glad to hear someone who made such a cute chibi and cute voiced managed to get through something that is truly stressful.
Ah yes, one such became quite popular on the web. Cutesexyrobutts accusing ShexyoArt. Robutts went even the extra mile of manipping together pictures to slander Shexyo.
Stood in your shoes when it came to UV Map textures, And got harassed and stalked over it, Pretty much gave up my UV Map texturing career because of it cuz the stalking and harassing kept going for 4 years, Over the years, the user that kept accusing me Got banned out of 5 Main discord servers from the community and 3 warnings on 3 other ones, and have stolen people's textures themselves as well but tries to cover it up by acting nice and making Minor changes to the design and acting all nice like "It's just a mistake didn't steal it I'll change it" Yet came for my head and obsessed over everything I made :| (I used to respect them in the beginning as well) So know exactly how you feel.
OMG That was my first thought actually!!! Why would anyone be so angry about a common thing (taking inspo and learning artstyles from other people's work), unless it's some weird deflection and they do sussy things themselves hMMmMmm
@@Blep35 Yep I agree, It's frustrating, I just know now, Everyone that obsessively accuses others about minor details Does the bad stuff themselves, they know they are in the wrong to cause the drama yet continue out of enjoyment to make smaller creators suffer under them...
that’s the problem though is alot of 3d model’s will look similar since most creator’s use the same few website’s and thing’s to create them and also anything anime will always look somewhat similar it’s just like how copyright claim’s go way too far to the point where you can’t enjoy any game on youtube these day’s cause it’s either silence for half of the game’s do to copyright music or people just having to ramble on about stuff and even when the music is copyright free cause youtube just love’s abusing that excuse and the whole thing about people getting there channels cancelled or banned or deleted or whatever because of other peoples actions one day all of this thing’s will go too far and come to a head
Man that's just *wrong* of that artist. You clearly looked up to them *and* showed evidence, and they still went off like that? Absolutely bonkers, fame really goes to the head of some bigger artists especially on twitter. Never meet your heroes as they say i guess. Very cute model btw
I used to be an animator and 3D modeler (maybe someday I'll go back) and I've been lightly following the drama caused by newbies throwing tantrums over the prices of good models. It's hilarious to me. I'm glad you shared this storybecause there are bullies like that out there who will try to scare new modelers and try to gatekeep people from starting or learning, but you also showed that you can't just throw together a workign model in a night. Even when I was good at modeling (I'm really rusty... about a decade of rust here) it would take a day or more just to refine a character design enough to start modeling. Add in the model, UV unwrapping, materials, hair and cloth simulations, rigging, and the code needed to make effects or movements work and it could take a month or two of dedicated work to finish a character model. Not to mention importing that model into whatever virtual studio you intend to use it in for tubing or vchatting to build animations and work out the kinks. If I sharpened my chops back up to make models again full time, there is no way I'd sell one for less than $2500 and that would be for bare-bones work. If I were doing it as a side hustle, I'd double my prices just to slow down requests. I'm sorry to hear your troubles. The reality is that artists frequently have work stolen. There was someone in northern China stealing my work and selling prints. Fortunately for me, he was in a really restricted market. But some artists will just assume that simmilar work was stolen or copied. In the end, you bought that model and you can legaly do with it what you want, even if it is to tear it apart and learn how to make one like it. I love your little chibi model, and I wish you success!
You know, I was hesitating on subscribing, but that last frame, that last second, when you said "bye"... f*ck it was too cute, I couldn't stop myself from subscribing.
Ouch! Sorry to hear that. hope the situation get fix soon. i can really relate to that something similar happen [not to the point to almost get sue] to me too, but enough to give me ptsd. I was a new 3D animation student back then. I was more or less 2nd week in my 1st 3D class, my lecture gave us a homework of making a sand pit playground and fill stuff of according what we learn that week and hand it in for the 3rd week class. i was so exited and even go above and beyond to learn how to make a low poly chibi model and wing-it with everything I know working day and night withing the 5 day in between to make a Kanna playing in a sand pit. noted that I just only learn how to do some simple stuff like special dup, excrude and cut tool. I really somewhat modeling it blind with only one single pic for reference and is not even those kind of T pose picture. The day before handing it through lecture dropbox, is not perfect, but I was super proud and hope I get praise or something. While my friend get praise of making a pretty nice gundam model in there. but I got the opposite instead. first of all, the class have too many student, so it broke down into 2 group, group one morning class another afternoon, I was in the afternoon. Before I go to my class I receive a message from another friend of mine from morning class that our lecture accuse me of model stealing from what ever site I got it, and he was being very sure about it too, to the point he announce to everyone in the morning class without confronting me about it. then in the afternoon class I was furious but I waited him until he finish shouting at me and I just pull out my phone and open past record of my FB stream and showed him I how i made this thing live [yea... i use to at FB in the past. but I damn, glad I did]. it was a pretty suck moment of my life too he just gone 'ow is that so' and proceed to continue the class as if nothing happen. I also confirm with my morning class friend that he never recorrect any of the accusation that I did not steal any thing to them too. so more or less I've low key become got a art stealer impression for the morning class which I got so frustrated to even explain to them, because why should I? the matter is buried to some if they know me they know I dint do it. but for those that dint interact with me before at all I always felt like they have the impression of me being an art thieves. I know, someone might say I should be happy since I was so good that I was accuse of stealing people stuff. but here is the thing, is not a very well made model, yes I do pour my heart and soul to make that but is not even a good model to begin with. worst is someone make an even more amazing stuff got praise and mine got accuse. speak of how that lecture see me as and me being a shitty thief and steal shitty art. I was expect to have a competition with my friend that made the Gundam, instead of a showdown I was shown out. and yes 2 years have past, im still kinda salty about that. more or less my lesson learn is record even some part of your process is a good thing since that somehow manage to save me. i cant imagine what would happen if i don't have the stream record i would not have been coherent enough to clarify myself since the accusation itself gave a quit a shock and emotional damage at that moment. Hope you get things clear out soon and get a good ending for this. sry for the long winded story =.=😅
I can't believe that artist wasn't happy that someone had learnt from them and had applied their style to their works As an artist myself (traditional drawer), I encourage tracing to learn and practice, it's so much easier when you can learn from others in how they detail, shade and so much more instead of looking at art tutorials. Sometimes the tutorials dont match the style you really want to draw/practice with. Of course tracing to sell as their art is another thing ahaha.. On another note, your models are so cute! Can't believe I'm missing out on this 3d modelling community, I will now proceed observe your career closely as a supporter :>
Just found your channel. This video was in my recommended list. I don't normally watch vtubers but I like this. As far the stealing bit, if they show no proof, they have no case.
I must admit, many people out there are indeed copying art styles and claiming it’s just “learning”. Yet when somebody isn’t copying, and are actually legitimately wanting to learn how someone’s art is made, things like that can get confused easily with the people who… aren’t as honest about their theft. It saddens me to know there are many artists whose work is being stolen, while they have no power to stop it, whilst other, more legitimate artists, are constantly being pushed around by people who claim they are committing some form of art theft when they are not. Why is all of this so unfair….???
your model is super adorable and yeah i have been around artist who get accused of art theft its horrible to go through but you handled it great ^_^ I look forward to more
It's very sad that the artist you looked up to decided to take action in that way. I really love the models you had before and the one you have now, they're so cute:'] I am just now starting 3d work in blender, and you're models are definitely inspiration for characters I may make in the future. I'm happy that you didn't end up getting sued tho lmao
It always sucks when someone you look up to and learn from ends up being the person who nearly tears you down. I'm glad you didn't let it stop you though. ˎ₍•ʚ•₎ˏ
this is my first time i met the tiniest vtuber in my life, omg tinier than a normal dog nice to meet you, really, your model looks smooth af, even when it's my first time seeing your videos. seriously, you're like a chibi korone but with more details, cute *af*
I watched this yesterday and honestly I still don't know what to comment. You gave them PROOF and they still accused you of stealing...I would definitely never look up to that artist again if something like that happened to me. I really love your vtube models! There so cute and I can't wait to see more!
I want to start blender but it is too much and I am so lost. I can't wait to watch your tutorials so I can create my own little chibis as well! I love the flip flop arms, I wear big sweaters irl just to do that lol. I'm sorry about what happened, I feel like they should've listened to your side before jumping on the 'stealing and cancelling' bandwagon. Don't let this get you down blep!
I'm so glad that you didn't quit >< I love your models and your videos and general vibe! Would have been so sad :c But glad you're continuing and IN LOVE with your new model btw! Glad everything worked out in the end ^^
To be fair, I've seen so many chibi models, and they all look nearly exactly the same, and the only reason for that is because they share similar exaggerations - big heads and eyes, small mouths, noses and ears, and child-like body proportions (usually, sometimes it's just a shrunken, thicker version of the character's body if it's supposed to resemble an adult). Not to mention the majority of them are trying to mimic a specific chibi style since it is very popular and recognizable, aka the style you are using. You can only do so much to stray away from the style without breaking it; like I'm saying this an artist from personal experience, it's really hard. A good artist knows how to imitate a style to a point (which is a very important skill for the industry by the way), and if what she says is true, since she also draws, she most likely tried studying the artstyle first, then purchased the model and observed it to see how she can tackle it in 3d form. Like as someone who's also trying to do that themselves, making faces is HARD AS FUCK man. Props to her for figuring it out.
It's funny, as you even purchased that moddel you used for reference and whatnot, like so it is technically yours to do whatever the frick you want with it.
I've seen some artists use triangles and quads in their models, that's pure plagiarism! Go make some pentagonal polygons, some hexagons, ngons! Time to file a lawsuit!
I’m really glad that nothing happened, everyone doesn’t want to deal with drama but moving on from that I am so wanting to make one these look so adorable, just need a PC and some other materials and I think I should be ready to start making a model but obviously first time beginner!!💖👏🏻
I've been watching your progress on twitter since the fennic fox arc!! It's really sad to see that they disregarded your entire progress of learning.. but I'm happy you're happy with this one! Keep strong blep! ♥️
To start off I love your new flop flop arms, it adds a lot of life to your model! Secondly... I'm so sorry you were attacked by the artist you looked up to, they sound like they have the personality of a rabid hedgehog. I look forward to your future videos
wow that's awful of the artist to accuse you like that, especially when you have all this evidence proving you didn't steal. Some people are so toxic! Artists inspiring other artists is how art works!!
Glad, you did not get discouraged and keep on doing what you do. Your Models are very cute and of high quality. The movements and transitions are looking so smooth : )
I may be new to your channel, but I feel so bad for you! That artist was so rude about it! I would be flattered if someone was inspired by me like this. That aside, the new and old models are great, but the new one is way more expressive and I love it! I love both of the models, it’s very sad that you had to change a lot of it because of another artist being so rude about this whole thing.
First time subscriber, and only came cross this video of you and learned about you by this video. You didn't steal from them, you just used the base of a model you paid for and learned from what they did. An example on how I see it is, you're an artist learning how to draw and you decide to use a well-known artist, you're obviously going to have a similar or close to their artist style because you're using their style as a base for yours if you're just learning.
I can see the inspiration, but taking a model to see how its made can help in learning how to build in 3D. I watch and learn from other artists how they draw, sculpt, rig, outline, color, and it helps me personal to improve and get ideas how I can add to what I already know.
that sucks. i guess this is a perfect example of "never meet your heros" never wouldve though it would be this bad, but eh. sometimes you only see the super public version with the mask of friendliness of some people, and that makes them look great.
I'm glad you've gotten over this hurdle, excited to see more of your works in the future. I even bought and downloaded the basic Myu model just to learn from you a lil while ago, and it's been a very good experience!
"stolen model" on a model that is up for purchase, and where blep learned stuff from... i never would have thought that THAT person was such a little baby about this kind of stuff. then again, looking at their videos, i guess it makes sense, you keep doing you blep!
Ah yes the only vtuber model that becomes smaller the older she gets, can't wait for the microscopic model you'll have that looks like a cell or a bacteria smiling with cat ears xD
No idea who this is but they are adorkably small. Thought the almost-sued thing would be like from a game company for being similar to a character but nah it's almost worse. Anyhow, hello, good adorableness of model, nice to see things didn't get terrible, have nice day.
aaa the new model is so cute!!! also I'm sorry to hear an artist you looked up to would accuse you of theft despite you showing them proof ;w; but I'm glad nothing bad ended up happening thankfully
Thank you for the topic of this video. I discovered your channel through it. I found it fascinating because I am still trying to map out making my v avatar idea that I've had for a while now. Btw, sense of humor 💯
Im sorry u almost got sued but im a new subscriber and love ur style of ur avatar its cute and adorable keep ur head up and always keep improving and hope u inspire others with ur models and style 🙏🏻🙌🏻
