Howdy! I just love the Southern accent and the phrases the people use in the South. If you like languages and history of the development of languages you’ll just be amazed how many cool things are preserved in Southern accent, but long lost in other versions of English (like moonlight magnolia drawl). And BTY, the folks in the South are the friendliest people in all the US 😀

I think the reason Southerners are so good at sarcasm is because of its early British influence. It's kind of their culture and they brought it with them to the States. Also does Southerners has good manners and hospitable because I see this depicted in some movies or TV shows.

Are you from N. Carolina Xiaofei? I used to go down to Raleigh for work. People are so friendly down there. But being an Asian, I totally stood out in malls or anywhere. LOL. My friend to me to this little shack where they serves traditional southern food. My first experience with collard greens and hush puppies. Also attended some sort of fair and heard Bluegrass music live for the first time, and saw the giant turkey legs on the barbeque. Such unique culture and place. LOVE IT!

Oh this is fun! Some of the words that you taught us are the same as those that they used to (or still do to this day) use in British English! I reckon it makes sense, though, seein’ how an older version of British English is actually better preserved in some areas of the States thanks to the early colonists? Also, supper and dinner both came from French! They used to call those “souper” and “dîner” respectively in France😃😃😃 Languages and dialects are FUN!🤩🤓🤓🤓

It's really funny seeing how many of these are considered Southern slang when they're also used in England lol. I think there was maybe an handful that weren't and that I had to try n work out the meaning. Was an interesting and well explained video! And Xiaofei, if it makes you feel any better, my English side of the fam are Cockney's, (I ain't, as I wasn't born within the sound of Bow's bells, although I am a Londoner) so I often don't know if a saying/meaning of something is an England/UK thing or just a Cockney thing. I found out recently that it is not common interchange "oh (the) poor thing" with "poor cow/sod". Like for me n my fam and the area we lived, it genuinely wasn't insulting to say that. So i was talking to a friend who lived in Leeds, and was talking about how something had gone wrong for my sis and I felt bad for her, so I said "yeah this and this happened, poor cow, sucks so much for her!" and my friend freaked lmao.
