"The first two equations calculate the sun's and planet's potential attractive forces, however it incorrectly uses gamma instead of lambda. The third equation calculates the Earth's potential attractive forces and the fourth misstates that the asteroid is working on a two-dimensional level, as it is the equation for the area of a circle, all to direct the energy used to cause the supernova. However, it should be noted that the sun cannot actually supernova, being too small to explode in such a fashion."
@@FiragaJJC Gravity attacks are weird in that they essentially do nothing but make you heal since that can't even kill you. It's !like those attacks that do 50% percent of your hp, then 50% of your current hp after.
The interesting part is that the main threat should be focused on the magic "meteor" that is about to destroy the earth, but it seems sephirot can easily warp the cosmos to increase the mass of the sun to destroy the party as many times he wants.
If only this move was his endmove that would kill your whole party for failing to defeat him quick enough. It really ruins the awe-factor of the move when he uses it twice.
that's what I assumed was going to happen realistically he just destroyed fucking planets I was really expecting "YOU LOSE" to come up on screen at some point
@@Kelberoth No, that's a lie. He's lying. Supernova does NOT end the fight in the Japanese release. It's not even remotely this cool in the the Japanese release, either. I do think it should be an end-game move, though. I thought I'd lost the first time I saw it.
@@jaieet No. However it Can kill if you have below like, 60-75% health. In the American and international versions it acts as Graviga and doesn't finish you.
The whole attack of Supernova is perfectly timed with the music, as was intended for people (like this guy and people unaided by a walkthrough) playing it the first time without any special or long scene Summons. You're meant to watch the destruction come closer and closer as the music swells with it. Things get even darker at 1:26 when the sun becomes a true supernova and finally at 1:55 when the lyrics begin to say "Oh god, oh god! Glorious! Don't let me die! Generous!" right as the attack consumes you and the arena.
@@Havokwreaker hate to be a party pooper but the lyrics in that part are "veni veni venias, ne me mori facias" "Glorious, generous" is actually really close to "Gloriosa, Generosa". The lyrics are in latin, so I'd assume some lyrics would be similar to English words as the English borrowed words from other languages. But yeah it's definitely meant to progressively show destruction lol
The localization team for this game "Okay so we saw japanese supernova and it was neat and all, but INSTEAD- let's make it a long-assed animation where sephiroth sends a meteor using actual math to destroy our galaxy to damage the party." Sakaguchi "That sounds really cool and all, but why our galaxy? this isn't set in the real world." "No, no, sephiroth destroys OUR galaxy to injure cloud and gang in HIS." Sakaguchi: "This sounds really really cool, I want to see it now. but...uh....why OUR galaxy?" Localization team:"because FUCK our galaxy!" Sakaguchi:(slow nod) "Knock yourselves the F$%^ out."
@DeadMemes NeedToStayDead Yes, but the comet doesn't ruin the whole galaxy, just our solar system. No way a Super Nova of the Sun's caliber would even dent the milky way.
Ahem... It is pretty clear that Sephiroth is only destroying our *solar system* (sun and the 9 planets) , not our galaxy consisting of hundreds of millions of solar systems...
@@kungolaf4499 wow guys let me make sweeping generalizations in peace. virtually every comment here is "WELL UH AKSHUALLY-" yeah okay. whatever. I don't care. have a nice day.
Yo that reaction was great. I can't imagine the faces of every single kid that saw this for the first time. I seriously wish I got to see my face the first time this happened. This shit was definitely one of the most insane things I had ever come across during a boss fight. Completely over the top, a comet destroy every single planet and getting to you. Crazy af.
When I first got to Safer Sephiroth and “one winged angel” started playing I knew it was going to be an awesome fight. When he used Supernova I just sat there in awe. Probably one the greatest moments in gaming for me. I’m definitely buying the remake for my kids. They’re playing FF12 at the moment.
I can guarantee you 8 year old me was already shocked there was another boss after bizzaro. I thought I beat the game, then the music starts and it's clearly not 'congrats you beat the game' music. Died right away cuz wasn't planning for another fight. Died right away a lot. Finally got to the point I had the party I wanted fighting Sephiroth, I thought I was doing good... then this shit happens.
Part of me sort of hopes they make the remake Supernova an unblockable total party kill, basically Sephiroth's enrage timer. Then when he casts it, right as the blast is about to hit the party, it shows him giving that smug smirk of his and a very calm, matter-of-fact, "I win."
1:47 I really like how the music was in sync with that specific moment. You definitely could sense how utterly terrifying that attack seemed and how hopeless it looked to survive it. Dude trying to use cure 3 got me 😄
President Shinra: "A literal monster made from cells of an alien destroys an entire solar system to kill a handful of people. And he drops a goddamn meteor on all of us. Yet no one seems to give a @$&!. But when I dropped a measly Midgar plate on those same people, then all of a sudden 'ooooh, what a monster I am...'. @#!$&*∆ hypocrites...."
he didn't call this meteor, he just transfer your party to the local of the attack. It's like when we use the summon and our party disapear. Some of the creators of the game explained this hahahaha but it's kind a weird answers, but it's ok
Lmao I like his reaction, he was like trying to find an item to use it but forgot its name, then while the super nova animation started he just paused on cure 2 while looking at the cinematic and at the same time realizing how fucked he was at that moment. Paralized by the power of super nova he realizes he is about to die and then tries to cure 3 lmao I love it.
I remember this fight, my friends all in the room watching as I fought him waaaay back in 1997...Super Nova goes off and I just watched in awe. Back when this was high-end graphical prowess, I was just dumbstruck. I didn't even react after the blast, just kind of watched. He ended up wiping us out completely, mostly because I couldn't think of what to do next.
"What am I supposed to do? Wha...?" Yeah that was probably everyones first reaction. I remember being so happy I had defeated Bizarro Sephiroth only to run into this monster and getting my ass kicked while I sat in stunned silence.
I didn't believe he was playing this for the first time... Then I saw the weapons he had and the way he stopped navigating the menu to take in the awe of Super Nova. I was then convinced.
You are probably right, since I was only 6 years old! Hell... even if I was 24 years (current age) back in 1997 I would have probably shit my pants too xD
My brother and I did when we first saw it and we also got a game over too lol we we're like HOLY SHIT!!! We were pretty under leveled and only had about 4k hp per character. And this was after dying to Sephiroth's first form several times and then finally beating it, only to die yet again after seeing Super Nova for the first time! Ah, those were good times! lol
GogimsTV Yeah we basically had to get a bunch of materia that would raise our 3 character's HP up to 9999, but even then we were still having trouble beating him because that basically took up all our materia slots. But it was really fun fighting him like that because it was a real challenge. This was before we got the Knights of the Round Table summon though.
I have watched several of these videos and am amazed at how many people don't know that you can de-frog your character with Maiden's Kiss. I guess the prevalent player generation never read fairy tales growing up.
First time he did it to me back then, i was completely shock and i couldnt think of what to do after this and i eventually died. This attack is like a psychological attack to the characters (thats why he can do it more than once) but it's also break the 4th wall, it's an attack to the player psychology too. This is one of the only time in a game that the villain manage to target you directly.
I'm really, REALLY, curious to see how Square Enix will handle this in the final part of the Remake. Too bad that we will probably have to wait 10 years...
Loved your reaction! Hope they include this in the remake! Supernova in the Japanese version doesn't do a percentile of damage to your health. It will completely obliterate you if you're not leveled up enough lol
Sephiroth was kinda like dobby in that he really only wanted to maim or seriously wound the planet with the meteor from the black materia.....and in this fight he basically says fuck it and pulls another smaller star out of orbit to destroy the solar system.
I encountered this attack last night for the first time and dang, it really is *that* extra. Easily the most over the top attack I’ve seen in any video game ever.
@@novadreamer1779 The spell Sacrifice in "Dragon Warrior 2" is a really bullshit spell as well - it is basically a Death spell that hits all characters at a 100% success rate, so it might as well be considered equivalent to a Game Over screen. Yeah sure, it kills the caster as well, but who cares about that when your own party is already doomed.
The fact they made a move to sync with the music is probably what makes it so epic. In reality its like one of the only attacks in the game that cant actually kill you.
I remember playing this as a kid I missed the days finally I bought it on switch beat the game 5 times with all characters maxed stat maxed level all items limits the grind was pain the reward was limited I haven’t touched the game since
When I was playing this in highschool, I had to give a memorized 10 minute oratory in my debate class the following day, so I used this attack animation to practice my speech while I played
I got to admit - it's pretty funny to notice the *exact* moment you realized "Hang on a second - what's that on the rest of the screen?" and just stopped dealing with the menu. All that lead-up to that moment just adds to it.
