This is such selfish BS. Selfish on the part of the kid and his parents. Why handicap an entire team just to do something nice for one kid? There are lots of other ways to do something nice for this kid that don't entail taking away something from many others.
To me, Michael is one of the most well-spoken young men I've heard in a long time. Confident in what he's saying, assured, proud, passionate about the subject matter, clear, no hesitating, no stuttering. If football doesn't work out, he has a future in politics or any other public speaking venue.

Ofc people can dream. We all should, especially young kids. I understand that allowing him to play is a great boost to his self esteem and that that is a valuable part of being successful in life. But sometimes we forget that self awareness is also vital to success. In other words, yes, be confident, dream, believe in yourself. But to do so to the point of the confidence no longer being based in reality is not productive nor emotionally healthy in the long term. Should we also put him behind the wheel of a car so that he can feel better about himself and more "normal" like his peers? Also, as someone who played football at a fairly high collegiate level, I have legitimate concerns about how safe this is for the young man, his teammates, and also his opponents. What happens when an opponent forgets or does not recognize him as the blind player and tees off with a helmet to helmet blindside (no pun intended) hit from 15 yards out? Will we all still "feel good" if that happens and he ends up not only blind, but with permanent brain damage or a parapalegic in a wheel chair? Or how about an opponent taking advantage of his condition, running past him un-evaded and seriously injuring the quarterback or running back? Still a "feel good" story then? Or take a look at the part of the video where he is running aimlessly and falls. What if that happens and he lands on an opponent or teammate who is laying defenseless on the ground? Will we all feel warm and fuzzy still? Again, back to putting him behind the wheel of a car, would you feel safe knowing he is out on the road? Ofc not right? I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer. I admire him very much for having the courage and ambition to participate despite his disability. But I also will not pretend that what is going on here has no legitimate concerns or falsehoods simply because a news channel makes a 5 minute human interest piece that makes me feel uplifted and inspired. I guess I'm not sure why in our society we are obsessed with making life play out like a Hollywood movie. That simply is not the case most of the time. I hope u or anyone else does not take any of this to be mean spirited or disrespectful to him or his situation, or that I'm simply saying it to be a troll on youtube. I sincerely wish him the best and that he never lets his blindness hold him back. I just think there is a better, more responsible way to go about building his confidence. Reading the comments on this has never made me more disgusted in humanity, this boy has accomplished more in his life already than any of y'all ever will. You must feel pretty tough sitting behind a computer and shitting on a blind 8th grade kid who is just trying to make the best of his situation and live as normal a life as possible. So what if he's not an awesome player, just by playing he has beat all odds.
Not against him being blind or his dreams. But it is highly unrealistic to make it to the NFL. Every football player's is to be in the NFL. And he is just not built as a linemen.

Because as as coach, when I need someone to call out defenses, protect the quarterback, and open up holes for running backs, I always go with a blind kid.

And why does he need "special calls" the play tells you which way to go. In zone plays you go to the play side. Man runs are really the only times he would need help. And if he needs help determining which gap he has he shouldn't be playing center. The center's job is to tell the oline where to go, where to set up the double teams and what line backers the oline is responsible for.
First off I score a 137 on Welchsler's. Secondly the word defense budget is misleading . It leaves out all that money that go to the private contractors, Halliburton and what not who get endless government contract from war torn countries they get to rebuild. Not to mention aid to our allies so they will be our friends. Military spending is a better term and spreads over many departments so as to be less traceable by those not wanting to find it.
Health care and education are not rights. By being the labor of doctors and teachers, you cannot make their labor the right of another, that would be akin to slavery. Oh, and you didn't mention the fact that the defense budget, making up 20% of the federal budget's overall cost, is half that of what we spend on social programs like health care, social security, and education.

It's if your strong and fast not how big you are. I'm a defensive tackle and not big at all that position matters if your fast and just go right up the whole.
I know that's true for defensive line, Fariko, but it's not really true for offensive line. I was on a provincial team for a Canada-wide championship in the summer & one of our D-lineman was 139 lbs, at defensive end, but our smallest offensive lineman was 224 lbs. On defensive line you can get away with being small because you need to rush by with speed, but on offensive line you can't be small, otherwise you'll just get bull-rushed by a big guy on d-line.
