I love it but the vocals of this album are weak compared the others. And Otherland is one of my favourite books and favourite songs but the vocals of the album are not the best... The vocals of the live are awesome
No idea why either. This was their last great album. Turn the Page, Otherland, Fly/Dead Sound, Lionheart, Skalds and Shadows, Straight through the Mirror, Another Stranger Me. That's a ratio of over 50% great songs. Compare it to At the Edge of Time which is easily their worst post-Nightfall album. A Voice in the Dark, Curse My Name and Sacred Worlds, and the latter song barely counts since it was taken from a separate project. Or Beyond the Red Mirror, which despite being better than the previous album, is filled with weak choruses that don't fit the songs they're attached to. All build up with very little pay off.
2 best things ever to happen in my life: finding out about Blind Guard; and beating 3 dragons attacking at the same time in skyrim while listening to this song
Thanks to the shit this album has got, I left it `till the very end when listening to the whole BG discography. I find it dynamic, creative, catchy and amazing. Its not a step down or fuck up after Night at The Opera (power metal masterpiece), its simply a different direction. Oh and other thing, Hansi fucking slays on the album. Frederick might not be Thomen but clearly brought new things to the table, he´s very skilled. Peace out ya´ll.
After Bruce Dickinson I put Hansi...he is truly amazing...I love this song especially the chorus...You are a pawn in the game, you are slaves to the blind oblivion...spine chilling..
I put Hansi over Bruce. When Hansi nails it then it is insane. But then again, so is Bruce. My first concert ever was in 2005, Ullevi. Check it out here on youtube, it´s all filmed
Actually, their bassist have been ALWAYS the same, Oliver Holzwarth, since 1998 when they recorded the Nightfall in Middle-Earth. Obviously I mean since then till nowadays.
@lioubinos99 Listen to it really closely in the album version the two guitarists do a solo where one of them is hammering the notes and the other one is playing the solo he plays in this live version. So basically it's like two solos in one it's flippin epic. I mean this is sweet but the album version i was like O_O
@Prankcall12 Yes, but both acoustic songs were quite disappointing, imo. I realize they can't write something as epic as The Bard's Song (In the Forest) or A Past and Future Secret every time, but Skalds is far, far better than the acoustic songs on the new album. Aside from that, tracks like Valkyries and Road of Release could have been worked on a bit. And overall, I didn't feel the lead guitar was as powerful as they were on previous efforts.
@ZachValkyrie I have. And it has much better production, but certainly not as good, in my opinion obviuosly. The new album is slightly more cohesive musically (it flows song to song better), although the lyrics are still disperate; ultimately the song writing is lacking. Virtually everything about Twist is materfully crafted, executed and fresh. The new album is good, but hit and miss in certain setcions.
i wish the guitars would turn the distortion down a bit. and maybe even let the bass through sometimes. I wonder..Is there a BG tune where the bass doesnt mimic the guitar lines? Love this song, and all other guardian tunes. long live BG!
There are sometimes where I wish he would just hit those sick, sick notes I know he can hit. But other times he just makes the song ten times more interesting.
truly good bands are better live than on CD,I hate american headcharge albums as they sound so tame, but live they amazing,I know it a different genre but same rules apply
Just awsome, i think i like this one better than the studio version... and just because i have now listened to this one about 10 times in a row and cant remember how the studio one goes, are some of the words rearanged in this version?
Simply amazing live! the guitarists are amazing on the backing vocals which is pretty rare. One of the best live bands ive ever heard, up there with muse in my books live. Hansi's Godlike vocals are mindblowing!! Cant say enough about this band. musically orgasmic might be the best description i can come up with!
I think ive watched this video more than 100 times. this is probably the second best live performance ive seen apart from Hangar 18 (I actually went to that and it was incredible) but this is too good for words.
Now When You Say Master Pieces I'll Agree With You But........What Will Ever Match Upto ATTWS????? I Love Blind Guardian To The Depth Of My Soul And Always Will Even More Such Over Time!
incredible...one of the best bands ever!!!!! they kicked ass in the middle 80's and they are still kickin ass in 2008!!...ehmke might not be so good as thomen stauch (he was the god of drums realy) but he is good in his own way and he rocks...listen to these bards that are the masters of metal!!!
10.10 munich - zenith. going to be my first BG concert. it's actually a cool thing that they're going to rock the zenith. the last time they were in town, they played at a smaller venue.
