Blind Melon has to be one of my favourite 90s bands simply because they are easy to listen to and 'groove' to. Man, I've been trying to look for bands for a while and this is it!!!!

I love BM because their music didn't really reflect the grunge sound and they cut their own path by resurrecting some old favorite genres like rock folk and blues, while giving it a neo psychedelic twist

It's 2021 and I still listen to this album regularly. It's still in my rotation. Lyrically, emotionally, musically one of the best bands that ever existed.

Yeep, me too... I wait in anticipation for it every time. Not to mention those lyrics speak to me on so many levels, as I feel like age 16 was the last time I felt truly happy and free without having to worry about money and drugs and women and so on. What's funny is, I was just sending this song to my friend and quoting those last lyrics, but I didn't stop at simply quoting the lyrics, I had to attempt to type my vocalization of that guitar solo like, "And I only wanted to beeee siiiiixxxteeeen... And Freeeee.... (Do-da-dooooOooOoo... Do-da-dooOooO...d-doOoOo, dodadoodadodoOoOooo...)" lol.

Makes me have cold chills everytime and makes me pour emotion. I'm a led head but melons had my back thru some very rough times.. Been in my car plenty of nights homeless with this album some booze and weed and it's so incredible picks me right back up everytime. Helps me remember who I am.

RetroGC it’s out there but you really have to look for it. The internet has been a blessing and a curse because everyone and their mother can upload something so there is a TON of bullshit you have to sort through but it also allows great talent that record executives would never consider because it’s not commercial. I would suggest checking out a band All Them Witches particularly Robs Song.... of Pink Floyd and Zeppelin had baby this is it right here👍

adam wolfer I actually keep going back and checking out entire catalogs of all the rock bands from back in the mid to late ‘60’s to the late ‘70’s, a personal favorite being The Byrds (and then checking out the catalogs of all the members of these bands when they separated and formed/joined other bands or went solo), the Animals, the Kinks, Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, the Guess Who, etc., and then obviously the big hitters like CSN&Y, Neil Young, The Rolling Stones (their entire catalog is mind blowing obviously but ‘94’s Voodoo Lounge is a classic that doesn’t get enough credit), Allman Brothers, etc. Plus I use Apple Music cause it has a list of bands and/or musicians at the bottom of the band you’re listening too that sound similar along with the solo work from that bands members and the bands those members went off and formed. Just something to consider...

This song is very significant and i believe truely takes to listener into what was occuring. It was the early mid ninetys and america had been waiting for so long for a true southern rock band w depth that wasnt too commercial. Blind melon was a rock band and shanoon wasnt ready for the pressure of being the next southern rock band. Being an addict to both amphetamines and opiates his daily struggle was too great and being talented took its toll. Noone could have relieved him of this and we lost a great.

The whole 16 and free line gets me man... I’m 25 now, and my life has changed, I miss just staying up all night smoking with friends and playing games. Listening to this album. One day I’ll live my life free again, but until then I’m just a slave to corporate machine.

Rochelle Eskue I hope so. It’s crazy so many years have gone by, cause I still remember like yesterday when I heard the news. Camping. Red River Gorge. Very rare to catch a radio (station ) wave, but for whatever odd reason a buddy of mine flipped the radio switch to ON and within a few seconds the commercial that was on ended and the DJ came on with breaking news turning the mic over to a news anchor who in turn filled us in on the tragedy. And a tragedy it was. Thank God that we got what we got from him (them), because that in itself has 110% saved some lives and changed MANY MANY more for the better...in big ways. It destroyed my weekend cause I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s really interesting that some people out here will touch u or me or any number of people and cause drastic but positive influences and never even getting to meet one another. We’ll do the same as well, but not to that degree, IMO. He touched a lot of people in very personal and emotional ways and will never b forgotten.

What trips me out is that my memories of being a teen and listening to these guys was in late 2000's....felt the vibes n now looking back with more wisdom and experience I enjoy almost all of their music and respect the skill and musicianship of them all

hyutyub yes!!!!! They rarely double each other. 2 totally different parts.(usually) Left ear guy(Christopher Thorne I think😉) has a magical tone😎 and right ear guy(Rogers Stevens) is amazing as well. My absolute favorite record here all time. Every song has something in it that makes me not want to skip any of them😎
