The name was fine but he is most definitely not Russian. He is a very proud Kazakh from Kazakhstan, a very beautiful country that is part in Europe and the rest in Central Asia. He is a very highly educated musician up to his present studies for his PhD. He lives in the stunning futuristic capital city of Astana although he was born in the European City of Aktobe. This was his guest performance at the 2018 Slavic Bazaar where he was a judge for the young singers competition, the flowers are a common thing here in Belarus where its a sign of respect to the performer. He has just become a UN Ambassador for his efforts to bring peace to the world.
Dimash is from Kazakhstan which was once part of the USSR/United Soviet Socialist Republic, now known as Russia. At that time, the USSR owned many more lands around it but in 1991, they allowed 16 republics their freedom. Kazakhstan was one of those republics. Dimash is fluent in Kazak and Russian. He also is pretty good at English and Mandarin Chinese. He is Eurasian having both European and Asian in him.
Dimash does a host of genres and in different languages such as his latest MV that is in English and is kind of a combination of blues, rock, etc. It is an MV but really like a short film. Give that one a go, and you might be surprised.

He sings in 14 languages, though only speaks Kazakh & Russian & is fairly fluent in English. He is also learning Chinese. Nice reaction, he does have an amazing voice with such a range of - 6 octaves I think; the one really high note is technically called a whistle note, usually beyond any vocalists range unless they know how! He has the nickname of the king of goosebumps, with good reason!
The way I found to celebrate the majesty of Dimash's talent was to have written the following about him: If I were to rule the world, I would immediately add, to the universal declaration of human rights, another article (they would become 31) whose wording would next "All human beings have the right, at least once in their lives, to hear Dimash sing". I am a Professor and I believe that I have a special profession that allows me to transform the human heart and consequently the human society. I work with young people and young people need to have good references. I had been looking for someone for a long time, of whom I could speak to the young people I work with, as a good reference. That person should be young, a super talent, a super mega star in the art world and above all, because he is the most important, a good human person. Thank you for discovering Dimash and welcome to a beautiful world of music. I liked and subscribed hoping for more Dimash reactions😊. The thing with the flowers has something to do with respect for the artist. It's a cultural thing. The audience listens to a performance without yelling or screaming that the artist can no longer be heard. No sound may be missing. In return, they then shower Dimash with flowers and gifts. That's the norm there. He then always donates the flowers to hospitals, retirement homes or similar institutions. Dimash is a 29-years old singer from Kazakhstan and believe me, you’ve seen nothing at all. In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly anyway😅). However, if you include the notes he has sung live in his concerts so far, you get almost 8 octaves (7.7 from vocal fry C1 (B0) to the whistle register D8; this note is no longer on the piano). At least that's what he's shown us so far. And this in all registers (chest, mixed and head voice up to the whistle register). The transitions from one register to the other are so fluid that they are sometimes not recognized even by vocal coaches or professional singers. His voice is the result not only of his God-given talent, but also of his almost 25 years of hard daily training. From the age of 5 he attended music school in his hometown of Aktobe. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. Mainly classic and pop, so he created a new crossover genre. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. And at his concert in Almaty, Kazakhstan on September 23, 2022 he sang in 7 languages in one concert! And at his concert in Yerevan on April 29, 2023, he sang an Armenian folk song for the first time (it has to be about 16 or 17 languages so far). He sings no mainstream and is a completely independent artist. He is managed by his father Kanat, who founded his own company "DimashAli Creative Center". The logo can be seen at the beginning of many of Dimash's videos. Maybe that’s the reason you never heard of him yet. He doesn’t sell his soul to a music label. He doesn’t want to be dictated by money when he has to sing what, when, where and how. Many of my favorite songs are in his native tongue. He is a nice, intelligent, respectful and humble person. He respects people regardless of their original, religion or profession. He truly loves his homeland Kazakhstan and his people with all his heart and always shows it with pride in many of his songs, concerts and interviews. During his concerts in Dubai, Düsseldorf and Prague in 2022, before he performed his song War And Peace, he told the audience he loves all people in every country. And there are no bad nations (only bad leaders). And I absolutely believe this. His concert in September 23, 2022 was in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It was so amazing and it lasts almost 4 hours. Believe it or not but he really gets better and better. Every time you think you know him and his art, you realize you are so wrong. He's very spiritual and thankful for the gift God has given him. But he also works very hard to constantly improve his vocal skills. He said in an interview that he trains at least 3 hours every day, if necessary, it can be 10 hours to prepare for a concert. He loves swimming and also a lot under water. Maybe that's why he has this large lung capacity to hold the notes as long as he does. He's a singer you can't put in any box. He sings almost every genre there is. Every time you watch a video, expect the unexpected. Even the covers he sings he makes his own and brings elements into the song that you would never expect. Don't be surprised if you get suggestions for songs you may have already seen. Dimash has different versions of many of the same songs. They are all worth seeing. Not only is he perfect at singing and performing, he's also an incredibly good actor. Check out his music videos. They are amazing. You think I’m exaggerating? No, I don’t think so😄. He sang this song as a guest at the Slavic Bazaar in Belarus 2018. It’s an International Festival of Arts and a contest for young singers, which he won in 2015. SOS is a song in the rock-opera „Starmania“ from 1978. The first who presented this song was the French singer and songwriter Daniel Balavione. SOS was the first performance of the China competition (in 2017) and was his first appearance in this show. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Yay, you found Dimash! I've been a fan since January 2020. The only reason I hadn't to suggested him yet is because his rabbit hole is deeep. 😅 He's from Kazakhstan, is Kazakh himself. This was a back by popular demand guest performance. He had won the Grand Prix (Top honor) a few years before. By the time he returned, he was internationally famous. He's fascinating, so multifaceted, a magical performer who is actually a bit of an introvert and very private. His family is so lovely. Warm, loving, all very talented. He speaks 3 languages, sings in about 15, sells out stadiums. But he's incredibly humble. He's also a humanitarian, goodwill ambassador, on and on. ❤

It's always magical to see someone experience Dimash for the first time. You have barely scratched the surface of what he is capable of. In future videos that you watch of Dimash, you might want to turn on subtitles to understand they lyrics as well. He does sing some songs in English. This, as other people have mentioned is a cover. He has originals as well. Pretty much everything from his channel is well worth watching. My personal favorite is Stranger (watch the one from New Wave 2021 - he was a judge and guest performer and that is one of his original songs in English).
