I’ve seen so many covers and tutorials teaching this song in so many different ways. I still get confused about which way to play the main riff since Tom plays it differently on live videos when the album came out (D on the 5th fret on the A string instead of the D open in the first 2 measures and then the rest like this video) and years later he plays the whole riff like in this video. I think there are at least 4 ways to play this riff but Tom switching from one to another confuses me to play the “correct” way lol Also, how did you know how to play the acoustic part on the bridge? Again Tom playing differently on live doesn’t help lol Want to know your takes on these and get a little of help Great video btw!

Hi! I like your detailed comment! You are right, there are many ways to play the main riff and all of them are correct. My favorite way is to play it with open A string because it's a comfortable position, especially when you play standing. Talking about the acoustic part - I learned the official instrumental, picked out an acoustic track and figured out every note. I believe I show the correct position because of the sound of the strings and additional sounds between notes.

tom only plays open A, not 5th Fret on E string.

Live yes. On the record it's better to play G5-A5-F5 on the 6-5-4th strings to avoid transmission from 6th to 5th string. Btw, there is also better to play A on the 6th string in the main riff to avoid residual noise from open A, but I show how to play this riff in the most handy position as an exclusion.
