This comment section is such a mess. Everyone disagrees with each other and it's got me confused. Also, everyone thinks they're some kinda professional intelligent music critic. Guess what. You're probably not
+Nathan Hollow that's fine but I'm sick of people complaining that tom should come back when that wouldn't solve anything since tom's voice isn't the same as it used to be anymore. Also, people are disagreeing on objective things. Whether you think this song is good is subjective but whether it sounds like old blink or not is objective.
to me it doesnt matter if toms voice isnt the same as it was, i still like his current voice. on the subject of tom coming back, eh, i still like his stuff regardless if its blink or not. best thing to do is just ignore the retards
Been Listening to blink since 95 and alk since 02...this album is going to be good. theres like 16 songs...fuck it ill take 8 rippers 4 good and 4 fillers
I'm not american so I didn't know his accent was particular and was curious and recently thought to look up his accent. Apparantly a linguist wrote an article about it. It's an exaggerated version of the southern californian accent. ^^ The more you know.
Wow another amazing song from blink. With everything they went through I can't believe they came this far. We go on the journey with them and this album is gunna kick ass! So excited!
Meh, I've listened to the whole album and I'm disappointed with the end product. I mean I enjoy Blink as much as the next guy but I can't force myself to enjoy something I clearly find unappealing. I'm not comparing it to past work but 6-8 songs on the album sound exactly the same. Cynical is amazing though. Can't take 40+ years olds seriously with cringe-worthy lyrics.
@Jovi2112 Yep, I'm kinda disappointed too. As expected, Feldman's production has a lot to do with the way everything (badly) sounds. I'd say that most of the songs have something for them, but it just seems to fail at some point. Cheesy lyrics, too much "na na"s & 'oh oh"s and a way too poppy production (I mean, yeah, Enema & TOYPAJ were poppy, but god, this is a whole new level). And I really want to like the album, but, honestly, the more I listen to it, the more i find something else to dislike...
I like it, i think what Blink is trying to do with this album is to please us, the older fans and at the same time, they want to get to the new ones, i think is awesome. After so many things happened, the band goes on :)
exactly. most artists don't listen to the fans that are dying for the old style. but these guys know what's up. they do what the fans want and stay true to their roots.
Well articulated, Tom had served all of us for a long time with Blink and we should be happy that he found something else to do and at the same time be grateful that Blink is trying to go back to basics.
I support them too. Even Boxcar Racer and +44. But somehow, without Tom, the lyrics seem so generic and the melody sounds like any other band out there. AvA and Tom's solo album have some of the best songs I ever heard.
I feel ya. If anything, they're leaking the "singles" or "promo tracks" first so they can save their best for when the album comes out. We'll find out July 1st. For once there's a bridge by Matt in this song. I'm dying for a Matt-only track just to hear how it sounds.
+Kevin O'Brien i feel the format has always existed. majority of the mainstream songs were tom first mark second then youd have some mark first tom second and the odd tom full song with mark on backing and my god if there was a full mark we would be looking at a rare diamond. blink have always been predictable. thats why they work and are loved by so many. if its not broken why fix it?
I am actually wanting a Mark led song on this thing... we havent got that in a while. On dogs eating dogs, there is literally not even one song where mark sings the whole thing
Evyatar Weissbrod Then there's the 2003 untitled album. Even if I love it to death, There are only 3 "Mark songs". Mark would either chime in on the chorus or get his own verse like "I Miss You". Tom took over the untitled vocally. That still applies to DED and even Neighborhoods if you will.
5SOS IS NOTHING COMPARED TO BLINK 182 GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE BLINK 182 ARE THEIR OWN SHIT I REMEMBER WHEN PEOPLE COMPARED 1D TO THE BEATLES ALL OF YOU ARE DUMB AF
Based on these singles, Tom's EP in 2015, and the new AVA EP, it's clear that Tom was chiefly responsible for the melodies and lyrics blink had to offer.
Wow this sounds nothing like Blink anymore. Sounds like one of those FOB anthem songs. Weak, the lyrics have no meaning, Mark again trying with the higher vocal range which sucks for him. The production is awful. No creativity on guitar. Go listen to Dogs Eating Dogs and compare it to these singles and you'll see what Tom means for Blink 182.
disaster was horrible and pretty little girl had fucking rap in it. I hated that album. if you love tom so much go listen to AVA, I'm sure you'd love to hear their spooky space sounds.
I will probably be hated for saying this, but I have a feeling that, based on the tracks we have heard, California is going to be the "Force Awakens" of Blink 182. Very familiar and using the same formula as before only not as good. Using its own legacy to bring in the attention. If this was some band that wasn't Blink, I wouldn't care about the songs and pass it off as another generic pop punk band. I never realized that George Lucas not being involve with Star Wars is weirdly similar to Tom not being involved with Blink. Although both leaving is probably for the best. Everyone is going to love it upon release, but quickly realize it doesn't stand out compared to the rest. It will most likely be above average (not bad at all), but nothing that I would consider amazing.
Well said. This album is as close to their "golden age" as we've had since the last album of that age, 2001. Self titled was great, but it was different.
While I personally love the songs so far, you are right. I definitely think it sounds better than Neighborhoods though, which had some stand-out songs but as a whole the album had issues.
Eh it kinda does but she said she said was a bit slower and the beginning guitar riff was better than the ones used here :) happy to see a beatles fan (?) btw
+Paul McCharmly hahah youre right, the Beatles always used strange chords THEy where geniuses! And yeah a Beatles fan right here! This song is cool btw... :p
I dont know, it feel sooo Goldfinger to me, i mean, i love blink and i love Goldfinger, but this song and Rabbit Hole sounds as if they were directly taken from a Goldfinger record, not saying its bad or anything, but this screams Feldmann everywhere, and i don't like that for blink.
Yes , I had the same feel . Bored to death to me sounds like goldfinger, maybe because John Feldmann from Goldfinger is in the Blink crew now as producer
Look, their new stuff is good. But this is blink-182! Every song so far has sounded the same, whereas albums before had variety. There's nothing 'new', it sounds so generic. If this was an upcoming band, I'd be impressed but a band was has been around as long as blink-182? It's just disappointing.
Punk fans are very sensitive ironically....whatever I'd rather have their music sound like this than sounding like angels and airwaves every fucking song, they didn't even do silly short songs like "built this pool" when Tom was there and they weren't going to. Like Tom didn't want to be funny anymore. I personally don't like the direction the band was going in with Tom and this brought them out of it...sue them if you're butthurt
It's a good song, respect, but it begs the question why did he just not do that shit when he was working with blink? They literally were waiting for him to lighten up and he never wanted to, read the articles, and not just the ones from Tom
I feel the same. Tom was just not into blink and that showed in neighborhoods. I feel like this is the true blink comeback. I'm really happy for Mark. I just wanted to see him happy again, because you could just tell after blink's first break up how much he missed it. And I'm glad he realized that he doesn't need tom to carry on and play in the band he loves.
even being blink one between a lot of punk rock bands, they always finds the way to sound unique and different, and that was because tom's guitar style, as simple as it is it's also UNIQUE, i hope this album doesn't kill blink 182... last three songs are solo random lyrics... where's the mark hoppus that write Apple Shampoo
Don't get me wrong I love blink 182 and I always will and super excited about this new album, but am I the only one who feels like something's missing? And I'm not talking about Tom... I mean, I feel like a lack of soul in this new songs. Idk :(
the lack of soul is Tom dude. he made the songs catchier and with better lyrics and the instrumentation was different than most rock music on the market.
-Was going to post this on someones comment but decided to make my own instead- The unfortunate thing is that people only want what was. Nobody wants something new, but that's just the thing. nothing ever stays the same. Change should be embraced since it's inevitable. I like this blink-182.
One could argue that they should try to get it close to their old sound, but that would be next to impossible. And honestly they probably are in many ways. But, it just won't be the same. It's hard to replicate something that happened so long ago. A lot has changed. Wanting the same thing out of people who have changed just like you is too much to ask for. Everything is different.
I like this too and I'm fine without Tom however we really need less mark. It's way too much of him. Matt Skiba has an amazing voice and is very talented. When bored to death came out I was super excited. Seeing this comeback of blink and I like the structure of the song. Rabit hole same thing, but I thought maybe that should be it with this switching on vocals. And once I heard this yesterday I can't. It's crazy. Honestly we hear 4 fucking lines of lead Skiba then him on backup. And the rest go to mark. Like I can't believe it . Like at this point why even have Skiba if ur gonna waste him like that. Skiba is a way better singer than mark. So far they have wasted Matt and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole album is like this . Man I hope not, and I hope to see a song where I don't hear mark once and only Matt. If not, this album is just a fucking joke.
@Blink182.4ever11 You are gonna be disappointed. Mark sings on every single songs. Yeah the album leaked. Its not bad and its nothing that great either in my opinion. I really like some songs but some sounds generic and repetitve. They miss some awesome riffs thatTom is awesome at creating!
Change can be embraced without necessarily liking the change. I think this version of Blink 182 is missing Tom's barotone yawnings and pecadillos, and for one, embrace this change to be ever so present. However, the output of that change is unappealing at worst and flaccid at best. It is a change nonetheless. So be it.

People we just have to live with the fact that Tom isn't coming back. And it's unfair to judge them based on the fact that he isn't part of the band anymore. Tom wasn't the band. He had a unique part to play in it and made it enjoyable but the fact of the matter is he didn't wanna commit to it fully anymore. Don't judge the music because he's not part it. Besides last time he was part of the band you all complained t sounded too much like Angels & Airwaves. I think Matt is doing an awesome job.
@@TinTin12121 Which just proves that he didn't learn a damn thing over these last 4 years, since his obsessive need to control every aspect of Blink 182 while at the same time not committing at all (and stealing their demos) is the reason he was kicked out in the first place. How long did you expect Mark and Travis to wait on him? He doesn't control the band or what the band does.
Just kind of feel like it sounds the way other bands sounded when blink had the edge back in the early 2000s. You listened to blink because they just didn't sound like regular pop punk/ punk rock. It's not bad, it's just not satisfying.
sounds very generic, Tom was the creative one. This sounds so bad and it honestly wouldn't bug me if Mark had called this project something else, because IT IS NOT BLINK! and those tom haters can pretend to love this and think it's good but deep down i think we all know it's crap.
This verse by Matt is the only part I like about this song :) Actually does sound like anything by Alkaline Trio. Hope that Matt joining Blink does not mean a definite end to Alkaline Trio. I liked them a lot : (
Matt's 2nd verse saves the song. Mark tries the same lyric phrasing in the beginning, but he cant pull it off. And they had to have written their own verses because Matt's has Alk3 written all over it.

Yeah I am crying inside because blink-182 is ruined now. Songs from album California are piece of crap. Any song from Chasing Shadows, To The Stars or Dream Walker is better than this.
Maybe the intro does sound a little like something taken from enema or toypaj, but it's all. None of the released songs sound like blink, but I'm saying it's not good, it is good, just it isn't blink.

"I miss Tom" okay, we all miss him but he made a decision and as he has said 1000 times 1. he hasn't left the band permanently and 2. it must be hard for Mark, Travis and Matt to see this comment on every fucking thing they do, they are working hard and they deserve some respect... Btw, I really like this song, it feels like old Blink and I love that!
Personally preferring Bored to Death and Rabbit Hole over this, but dang excited to hear the rest of California. Question is; Should I cover this one as well?
This song is really cool! Stop arguing and appreciate the new blink. If you dont like it, leave. We dont need your stupid coments about Tom, cause he is not in the band anymore. I respect him but he decided to leave and so the show must go on
To everyone bitching and/or saying "need Tom" bullshit, This cd os already proving to be better then Neighborhoods. That cd really only had like 2 great songs. And "Bored to Death" already crushed them.
Wishing Well and After Midnight just off the top of my head blow these songs out of the water. People can trash on neighborhoods and that's fine, but it was absolutely better than these generic songs. Blink now sounds like All Time Low wannabes... BLINK.... It's dissappointing.
I have a prediction. Tom will rejoin the band at the San Diego show in July and they will end up becoming a four piece unless this is caught Matt by surprise then he ends up leaving the band then blink is back to normal again
You know I was extremely pumped when Bored To Death dropped, and Built This Pool was nostalgic, but this is really just mediocre. It's not terrible but this just feels like a filler track.
Adam Quinn Wait until the album comes out then before you judge it. Singles are supposed to be poppy and cookie cutter. Dogs eating dogs had a fucking rap verse on it. Maybe you'd like the new AVA ep instead.
I know I'm probably the only but I think this sounds dope. I didn't expect their new album to sound like the old stuff and that's not a bad thing. Real excited for California.
I like this song, so much! But is a rare fusion of elements. Alternative Rock intro, a little 2000's Pop Punk riffs, verses too, chorus sound like Simple Plan style (very pop), one part of vocals only, and song structure is so influenced by Goldfinger (John Feldmann was producer of this). Song with combination of things more blink-182 attitude. I like it!
It seems like Mark has just become a sell out. Making over produced pop songs without a hint of punk/rock in them. Tries to make songs like Built This Pool to deceive old Blink fans into thinking this will be like the good old days when in reality this is now a pop band. This just sounds like 5SOS or something a 12 year old girl would listen to. Trying to appeal to a mass audience for easy money. Just disappointed tbh
I...just...don't feel it. Shit i really don't know. I fucking love this, but hear me out, While listening to the lyrics and generic guitars I have a feeling that if this wasn't Blink 182 i'd just ignore it as 'another boring pop-rock song", and that feeling is scary being as though Blink 182 has always been my favorite band ever. I should love it all the way. Its just empty to an extent, as if i was blind for some reason, as if i was in denial. It's confusing, i must say. Glad you guys are still doing your thing...

Blink 182: the band that was with me while I was happy, while I was sad, when I lost all hope and when I retrieved it, when I cried, when I smiled, when I failed and when I succeeded, when I fell in love, when the love ended, when I dreamed and when I woke up to face reality. So many anthems, a caroussel of all the small things that always brought me a new hope when I was down. I'll never be able to thank you enough for being crucial part of the soundtrack of my life.

Tw warning for intense flashing lights from the very beginning to the very end! Be safe out there. I love this song so much idk why people really don't like it. Sure it's different but not in a bad way

+Jack McCann hi jack, enough to conclude what i have said before... but i know is too soon to judge the rest of the album.. i guess i have to wait for the finel veredicts... greetings!
If you guys like this, you should check our the much less currently appreciated but equally popular 90's band Third Eye Blind's recent stuff. Similar sound.
