The year is 2073...(not my idea, but it's proven to be an interesting scenario), and for many years the region has been quiet. Blue forces have been reduced to older airframes with limited weapon choices as resources were needed in other conflicts around the world. But a declaration of war against the south has activated the 222nd Gamblers with mission tasks to neutralize the threat with whatever resources are available.
This mission started with an air refuel on the way to a standard strategic target strike, but re-tasking mid-flight routed us the opposite way. The task was to strike multiple targets that were supporting a DPRK gamma laser unit. The unit has a lethal range of 50 NM. This is well outside the range of available weapons, so the Gamblers were tasked with a low level strike under a 1500 AGL ceiling through 50 NM of mountainous area to deliver Mk-82SE weapons onto precision target points.
The low altitude of the run, combined with the loss of the AI supporting CAP caused the Viper strike flight to get engaged at close range, causing the loss of two aircraft. The other five flights made it back safe with some very low on fuel, but all targets neutralized scoring a successful mission.
