I think this is actually an attack on the justice & prison system. He didn't kill the first girl, but they made sure he spent a long time in jail anyway - driving him mad with resentment and hate against the world that had been so unjust to him. So, when he was released, they'd created the very thing they'd tried to put away - a serial killer.

I came here because my eleven year old son discovered this great song while watching a video about longboards. I am so proud of him for recognizing good music and sharing it with me!

An absolute masterpiece of a song. So blessed to know this song🥰✨

This song does a hauntingly good job at suggesting the flaws in the criminal justice system “booked him on a whim with no bail” - this injustice causes the man to have resentment and hate and essentially creating a propensity to do wrong- but also sets him up for failure (the prison is releasing him but releasing him with a pistol and again with a knife). Although this man clearly has some urge and yearning to be good - he is already too lost in the system - he has been pulled from heaven’s gate. Every time I hear this song it really makes me think how vulnerable we can be to the system. Such a great song.

I just found this, great stuff. I love the video as well, one of those truly rare cases where the video actually adds meaning to an already meaningful song. Like how it puts a whole new twist on "the sheriff let me go with a knife and a song".

Heads up! I just watched an interview with Blitzen Trapper and they said the song is based on the lead singer's uncle, who was in prison~ but not for killing anyone. He was apparently a nice guy and quite a character! So there you go!

this band was coming to my little area and they played this song on the radio..... such well written lyrics and the music was tight. just pisses me off it takes me so long to find good new music with the way the industry works now a days

Amazing song. This song has a good sound to it good meaning to it and tells a great story most of you should already know how hard it is to find such qualities in todays music.

I love these guys!!! In the music video for their song "the tree" , my son is the baby in the very beginning. The producers/director of BT's music videos are close family friends of mine. So interesting how everything comes together to make a video. A lot more work than you'd think.

Great song, I first heard at small bar in Saskatoon, sung by one guy on his drum set. Honestly it was a really good cover.

I have no idea what everyone is on about - I didn't even know this song was used in advertising (I am from the UK though) It's a great song from a great band - pretty much the only alt. folk music I like. Good old Blitzen Trapper.

I LOVE BLITZEN TRAPPER!

The video was shot at a higher frame rate, and the song played sped up durning the shooting of the video. When it is played back the video is slowed down but the music is still synced to the video. I assure you the notes are correct, it just looks weird because of the slow motion.
