I struggled for years to figure out what this song is about. I've arrived at the conclusion that it's obviously not literal, which is certainly consistent for Blitzen Trapper who have always had an amazingly subtle style of storytelling. I think the idea being told here is the plight of a married man who has become estranged from his wife ("In the captain's chamber there's a ball and chain") and is finding solace in a lady of the evening ("Your love's like rain in a desert to a thirsty man") who he yearns to develop deeper feelings for but is unable to because his cold and empty marriage has left him afraid to connect with someone else emotionally ("I been running so long I can't recall what it means to stay."). He is slowly coming to believe that discarding everything he's built over the course of his marriage is a small price to pay for the happiness he feels when he spends time with the prostitute ("It's better to love and lose than to gain a world on a string"). Of course, I have no idea what the video itself is conveying. These dudes clearly love to have fun on screen.
damn i love that song! 1st blitzen trapper's song to listen to for me and once again damn i love it so much! it's like some awesome noir movie from 80s with amazing soundtrack
I can't for the life of me figure out just what the story arc of this video is. The song is hauntingly memorable and exceptional in every regard, and I like to think I understand story structure, but Blitzen Trapper has always had a way with metaphors both visual and lyrical. They've yet again outsmarted me with the meaning of their song and its associated music video. Anyone have any ideas as to what it's about?
+Treaded Water I think it's supposed to seem like a science-fiction spy flick. The band are all secret agents, Marty (the guy with the curly hair) is their boss, and the guys torturing the drummer are the bad guys. As for a plot, you got me there.
It's unreal. Should be at 30 million. These guys cross various musical genres and this is the way it is. They don't fit neatly into a category and I am glad they don't, which might be why they don't get more publicity. More people need to see and hear them though. I have been a fan since I heard Furr years ago and I am forever addicted. Go Blitzen Trapper!
Jaime Tumbas HAHAHA AC/DC, seriously?!?!?!? Those guys were and still are on their commercial run of 30+ years, but at least with Angus they were cool. Zep = Best Band of All Time. GNR lasted a few years, but Slash was the best thing to come out of them, as we all know (along with their Debut Appetite). Hendrix (like your wonderful spelling suggests, and Morrison, too) was from another universe and changed rock in many ways. Sounds to me, like you are a troll, not a musician....pick up an instrument and realize that Blitzen Trapper is the real deal in so many ways. Oh and BTW, go listen to some classic The Band.
Jaime Tumbas you are very very off base. You haven't met a true musician. You haven't been introduced to the right music. And you are so very very off base.
