All I can say,is if your going to homestead in the brutal winters of ALASKA,YOU need a man like Aaron.he is such a hard working man. providing.,and tending the needs of his family and home. I know Jessica.I don’t need to tell you that.and not to say less about you.because YOU are the heart of your home.doing all you do. Together you,s are a perfect couple. Love watching your family videos! 🙏🏻❤️
True. It’s work anyone that put their mind to can do. I’m truly glad I have Aaron todo for me most of the time. I’m hard headed and determined enough I could do it if I wanted.
I have my kitchen and basement ready for the winter, I hope that we don't have electrical shutdowns as my freezer is full of our meat and other things!! Your videos are fantastic, and I can live vicariously through you and your family. Thank you for sharing all that you do!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!!!
You are one of my favourite alaskan channels. You are so prepared but I watch another channel of a young couple just starting out and they are just so not prepared. This will be their 1st winter in Alaska. I really hope they watch your work. I'm in the UK so when we get snow here the whole country grinds to a halt . We only ever get 2or3inches. Absolutely nothing to what you have and it only ever lasts for a few days. Wishing you a very happy blessed thanksgiving. I hope you are going to share with us! Love you and stay safe
Hi Jessica, Aaron and sweet family! Aaron is such a hard working man and you are a hard working woman Jessica. The longest time I was without power was 5 days. You do have to prepare for what might happen. I always made sure my laundry and house was clean. Food that would be easy to heat up on my cooktop. I hope Kodi makes it home safely and Wyatt stays with you at home. I hope and pray that everyone will make it through this blizzard safely. Sending prayers and blessings to you and your family!
Thanks for sharing and the great reminder to stay prepared!! Here in Texas, we have tornadoes and ice mostly for us to prepare for in the spring, fall & winter... summer is the heat. Last February we had the Polar Vortex whch Texans are NOT prepared for- however we had spent the previous 4 months preparing for emergencies- so we had a Woodburner and other ways to heat food [and i can loads of food, so we ate well! Neighbors ate with us too] April we were hit by a tornado, and lost power for 4 days... again we had prepared, so we did good. Each time we see where we are lacking and then attempt to address that area as we can with our finances... sometimes it's a slo go, however we are continuing to work towards being self sufficent and helping others. I appreciate you real videos... prayers up ❤
It’s was a bumpy night , I am in wasilla and it’s very gusty and power was flickering , but it was not as bad as this past January! Thank goodness ! Glad your safe and sound! Drove home over the flats yesterday was blustery and pushing my car about! Preparing before was a must!
@@modernhomesteadalaska we have matsu coll and career tech , I kept them home , but no school today! I am just glad this was not as bad as we had in January, or the one January before that one! But keeping prepped is key! Stay safe warm this winter ! Hugs and happy thanksgiving 🦃🍁
Back in February 1998 in Northern NY, we had a major ice storm that took out electricity from South of Watertown on up into Ontario and Montreal Canada. That was on a Wednesday, and on Saturday, we received 18 inches of lake effect snow. We lost power for almost 4 weeks. We had wood heat and a spring way up on the hill that siphoned downhill even though we had no electricity. We had a frost free hydrant next to the garage, so our neighbors came and filled water jugs. The Fire Dept went out on snowmobiles to check on everyone. Goes to show, people come together when things go bad!
As you can tell, life got in my way and I am a bit behind on visiting! You are so calm and collected as you prep. I’ll have to continue on with your posts to see if you get the storm. Until our next visit….get those buckets filled!! ❤ Momma G
That snow is beautiful. I’m in North Carolina in the foothills. I’m so hoping we get some snow this year. And y’all home place looks like a winter wonderland. Stay safe and throw a snowball for me. Lol
Goot am beautiful peoples 💚 my daughter came in here and said awww your watching the Alaska beauty and the beast lol she's to cute we just love y'all so arron is so blessed to have you beautiful lady ❤️
No lie you honestly made me cry! I’m saving this message! We talk about him being like the beast on beauty and the beast so much. lol I love it I want to hug you!
Our power was only out for an hour yesterday afternoon. When I built our house I put in a sub panel with its own transfer switch to power lights, refrigerator, freezer and oil heaters. I can run our Honda 2000 over night on less than a gallon of gas doing this. We have a whole house transfer switch and a remote start generator when we need to run the pump and other high loads This is a gas hog so we don’t run it except for this. 25% of the Mat Su was without power last night. I see you live near the big tower. We see the top two lights of that from 10 miles away.
We have a whole house transfer switch too. Next to a Generac its the best. To extend the generator we keep ours without oil or fuel so we fill them prior to putting outside, pain in the back but its how we do it.
Good morning Jessica and Aaron and family!! Going to be a sunny beautiful day here in Idaho. 😶🌫️Stay safe and warm making sure your all prepared for the blizzard 🥶! I know heating and food should be no problem 😊
When we were in NY and a winter storm was coming, people flocked the stores and not really clear the shelves, just get eggs, milk, bread, water, and meat. When a blizzard warning was in effect, forget it. A lot of foods not all are wiped out. People lined gas stations, filled propane tanks, and banks. We had blizzards before all the technology set in. Had to have my son’s school work all set in case the worst case scenario set in. Have a great Thanksgiving
Jessica ,great video, The first thing i would do was Get your family members home safe, if they are home then its less worry, if your son has power cut in his little cabin its could be bad, I know that wouldnt happen because you and Aaron are Always on top of things,.Your husband is worth his weight in gold x3, Please stay safe and warm ,thank you for sharing
Caleb is completely off grid. It’s funny he never even knows if the power is out because his is always on. But yes I try and get him to stay here to know they are safe. He is like mom I live in my own house now. Sad days.
Hi sweet one! It is a hard life preparing for a blizzard in Alaska...WOW! You just take it in stride. I guess you have to be flexible to live there! I love all the drone footage...great job Wyatt! I pray you all make it safely through this storm! Big hugs and many blessings!
Wishing you and your family are safe. Amazing to see such different weather to ours. Thanks for sharing. We are also preparing in Western Australia but for extreme heatwaves and fires.
Hope you stayed safe. I live off the p/w and our apartment lights flicked but didn’t lose them. My son works at essential 1 up the street and it was bad driving home for him last night in our short car. Ugh, I hate the wind.
You also have lots of snow to melt in those pails fairly close to the wood stove to water the animals if needed like you mentioned. You have a lot of options 👍
We're getting 2 and 1/2 inches of rain yuck from Virginia Going to Florida for the winter first time can't wait Stay Safe ❤Wishing you and you're family a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving
Something I do in preparation for a storm, winter or summer, but especially winter, is running water in the bathtubs so we can flush toilets. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
When we lived in the woods in Maine and a Nor'easter was predicted, we would do all of these same things (minus the animal preparation as we didn't have any besides the cat) To this day I still always fill up 5 gallon buckets when I hear about a snowstorm, if nothing else we need them to flush toilets because the well pump won't work without power. I trust all went well in the storm and thank you fo all of the great videos!
When we loose power here in the winter and bad storms we fill up our bathtubs for water for flushing toilets , washing up and the animals. We always have a well so when the power goes so does the water . The longest our power was out was for 21 hours so we charged phones in the vehicles and stuff like that. We have a small generator. But we need to invest in a bigger one for sure
That’s such a great idea. Aaron and I were thinking when the kids move out we should get one of those bathtub bags, and just keep it full in the winter if it’s a tub they don’t use. Great idea!
We always tied a rope from house to barns if high winds and snow predicted……especially blizzard conditions….hard to see when snow blinds you. I would think Kody could come home rather then drive in the storm…..hopefully everyone has plenty of warm items, water n food in their vehicles. Plenty of wood near the wood burners I always want…I hate going out in a storm and try to walk with a arm load of fire wood. Love the aerial video of your countryside….. Big pot of soup or chili simmering on the wood stove……yum
Depends on the tree. That one that the whole middle is rotted out is a no. They will get run through the wood chipper this summer. Others will become firewood next year it takes a year for them to dry out. Great question
Yes I do the same thing get dishes laundry waters for animals n us . Everyone takes a 5 min shower so we all get warm water hahaha . Battery’s ready rechargeable flash lights , battery packs all ready . Gas is in generator shovels ready wood stacked inside for wood stove. Bring it on lol . GODBLESS sweetie be safe .
@@modernhomesteadalaska That’s a great idea! Why fuss with a generator for the freezers if you don’t have to. Although moving them might be a pain in the butt.
Wyatt did a good job with the drone footage! I am glad you all got everything ready, and stocked, before the storm hit. Prayers you all, and everyone in that area! Have a very Happy Thanksgiving. God bless you all!
You are a very hard working family. This was a very informative video Jessica. Ty for sharing. I just don't think about all the things you have to do living in the south.
Also when falling a big tree always when comming through with back cut while cutting you need to be looking up tree for control the way your doing watching cut is dangerous .cause many times Branches fall break off and when your just looking down =bad day
We live on the Mexican/Texas border by the Gulf and it rare for real cold weather, but understand the wind. We have lucked out for the last couple years on hurricane season, but wind storms we get a lot of.
Sounds like you make about the same preparations as we make for a hurricane on the gulf coast. The difference is the temperature. We make sure we have enough drinking water for people and pets. We make sure all the clothes are washed and dried and put away. We make sure we have plenty of food on hand because all stores will be closed as power could be out for several days up to several weeks. We fill up the bathtubs with water so that we have enough to flush toilets. We board up windows and doors to prevent flying debris from breaking glass. We fill all the vehicles up with gasoline as well as any generators and gas cans. We store all outside furniture and objects or tie them down so they won't get blown away or worse blown onto neighbor's properties where they can cause damage. etc. etc. It's a lot of work and you can't wait until the last minute as invariably some people do.
I made it back home. Wow that’s a lot to have to move off your drive and road . In case you need help or have to get out. Poor Arron , I see the drone in the sky ! Wyatt is doing the drone! My Christmas gift is a colonoscopy on Dec 20 😢 be safe will keep you in my prayers, see you soon ! 💨🌨️
Wonderful. It’s simple when all you can think todo is well I might grab a milk, or a case of water,…. But truthful our gas tanks are full truck is full can’t think of to much else todo.
@@modernhomesteadalaska I lived in a 20x20 shed for three years with on insulation and just a metal roof and a couple of windows and wood stove in - 30 degrees until we built our house that was 35 years ago my house sits on a cement pad 200’ from the lake our house over the years I built on to the house three car garage one for my truck one for my tractor and three skidoo’s but let me tell you it was very hard at first we did plumbing electrical and now I am off grid for at least 5 years now
I was just going to say that !!!!! Water and wood besides food is the main concern !!!!! Or at least it SHOULD BE !!!!!!!!!! REMEMBER, I LIVED IN FAIRBANKS FOR 4 FULL YEARS
lol on sorry the wood shed is completely full, trying to clean this area so we can put up drywall and finish the basement. We need to put heat shield around the stove.
Yes yes sorry we are doing that on purpose to get it cleaned so we can finish the basement and put heat shield around the stove. We have a completely full wood shed.
Well not sure how to answer that. We don’t I guess is the best way to put it. We know animals can come and we would just let them do whatever as long as they are not hurting anyone or any animals
Depends on the tree. Some of the rotten ones will go through the wood chipper this summer, and the good ones become firewood or projects but they will just be landscape this winter, lol
It did I didn’t go out in it. Our daughter had to come home. It’s hard to record without going out in the danger of it. It had no snow with it just wind. So it’s just miserable. Our son’s school lost power and he had to come home too. And the neighborhood near the school had thousands without power.
My daughter is making a 4 course family dinner and homemade tamales that take 5 hours of work, and this is the son you insulted. He was doing the recoding so not being recorded bringing in all the wood for our wood only heat and he did all the animal chores. Our Teen Son Broke his back. What now? Life on the Alaskan Homestead has changed. Prayers neeeded ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4R27zslDg3M.html
If you had watched the previous video Aaron had purchased me a small saw, and was teasing me saying that is my girl saw, and so we called it his big saw, it’s a running joke. Sorry it was lost on those who didn’t see a previous video.
