at 29:51 you said integrate karo. yahan chain rule lagy ga i guess . it is as simple as you stated. i have also seen in kittle he has not used exactly this method.

It is much easier to consider that when U=+ then it is repulsive potential and when U=- then it is an attractive potential. Also electron never go inside an atom. Electron is coming to the lattice with a certain kinetic energy E and then it gets trapped into the well when -U
