1968 Firebird Restoration block sanded the entire body and what’s the next step of the process here at the VGG shop? You might be surprised, keep in mind the goal is to get the best possible finish at home so all the little details add up to make for a fantastic car. The plan is how to paint a metallic paint car and keep the color even and without tape lines or blend lines.

Great video, reminds me of the long nights getting my '70 GTO, ready for the painter. Youre an inspiration to find another '68 Firebird i used to have, factory 400 4spd car.

I do like the 70 gto, I am undecided which I like more 1969 or 1970. How long did you have your 68 bird?

Just a tip from my experience, having the hood standing on the corners,could damage them. I have seen that so many times. I store them on the side, longer surface contact, in my opinion. The bird is looking Fantastic!!! Keep up the great work!

Good explanations of your reasonings for going the VVG route. For sure, when painting in a garage or a space not sealed from the elements that cause defects to your hard work, there are steps that pay off in the long run.
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
I don’t love painting cars at home but it’s more realistic to what is available to most of us and that’s what VVG is about

@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
Yes it is and that is the point I am trying to drive home. Do the best you can with what you have. It doesn’t have to be perfect but if you get most of the details right it masks the ones maybe you didn’t get perfect. And you have something you put your heart into and such a great story.

In watching you in this video you removed the hood on bolt at a time ... have you ever replaced a bolt on each side with all-thread .... they help hold the hood in place till you are ready to lift it up ... the same applies when you go to set the hood back in place ... seen it in a video a few years back .... your videos on the pumpkin have been great ... thanks from muncie ...

Not trying to bust you balls John but when I did my 68 Bird after blocking the PPG Vaira Prime, I did as you are going to do and found out later (the HARD WAY) I skipped sealing the car with a GOOD sealer before paint. The smart thing to do is after removing the front clip & doors & trunk lid & after finish sanding, shoot a full coat of sealer over everything to hide all shadows and stop all likes of crazy issues that can happen years after you painted the car (happened to me) I shot my Bird with R&M Lacquer with no sealer. Looked outstanding after sanding & buffing and won a few AOMCI car shows. BUT for some crazy reason every time you get the car wet (like a lite rain on it) millions of little pimples rise up and you can see them, but the next day, there all gone ! Had a PPG auto paint expert see it happen right in front of his eyes, and he asked if I sealed the primer with a top quality sealer between block sanding and paint the car? I said no, just put paint right over the PPG Vaira prime, that was my mistake. I learned the hard way to always seal off all your primer before paint. 15 years later my 68 Bird STILL gets all them little pimples every time the car gets wet ! then go away the next day after it dry's. I will be forced to strip the car to metal again the next time I paint it. There is only 1 paint job on the car as I stripped all the car last time as well. A good sealer is a VERY wise thing to do as we ALL are in this tougher.
@VinylVillageGarage
@VinylVillageGarage Год назад
I will definitely be using a sealer coat, For me it’s a must especially with a metallic paint. I do my sealer just before painting the base then clear. I use the epoxy primer with acetone for my sealer.
