Love your videos Ed! They are all super helpful! A majority of the bangers that I play with hit the ball twice as hard and barely above the net. Would you still use volleys in that scenario?
Another perfect video. And exactly what I needed. Thank you! Also did you recommendation for the Montis shoes and love. Question: you were playing with and praising the Luxx. I now see you are doing the Vanguard….are you now picking this over the Luxx?
Love your content..working on roll volley. By the way, i think with your personality, you'd be perfect for doing youth clinics...Kids would love you and probably learn well!
Definitely a wall! No equipment needed! I spent an ungodly amount of time hitting against all sorts of walls: my refrigerator, playground walls, garage walls… nowadays I use my portable wall, but any wall will do the trick!
@@edjupickleball Thanks, I'll try the wall. Would you suggest feeding it hard against the wall with your forehand and then block or punch with the backhand?
@@edjupickleball Portable wall? Is this something you can buy? I’m struggling to find good walls if you can believe it. Most are bumpy and the balls go everywhere. Cheers
if you do a roll volley, at the NVL, with such a big swing (your arm is ending up straight up at 1oclock)...that'll make it super hard to get ready for a really fast counter attack. right?
I just found your channel and I'm really glad I did. Your format and demonstrations are really clear and concise and I'm really looking forward to practicing this stuff as a beginner. Cheers!
My go to is the punch as well but I haven't really developed a roll volley yet. Thanks for the content. I'm working on it! Too bad Titan doesn't offer a more budget friendly option.
Where did you find that adjustable bounce back board stand thing I've seen you use in other videos I tried to find one but can't seem to find what you have.
With your flick volley in particular... your paddle ends up way up in the air. What happens if the opponent returns your volley? I know you’re much more experienced than I am.. but that’s what I noticed.
That’s a great question! And that’s why I reserve the swing volley category when you are on ultra offense and your opponents are on defense. Because the swing is not as compact, there’s more recovery time between. But say for example your opponents are back at the baseline or in the transition zone. They pop the ball up a bit and now I want to really hurt them (figuratively)- I would choose a swing volley to put max pressure in that scenario.
Solid video! Can you share what’s “most” common and consistent grip and how far up/down on handle for punch volleys? I see some say pinky barely on the butt, some say thumb on the flat end directly in front of chest. Thanks Ed!
I use a continental grip, very low grip on the paddle. I learned this from Jaume Vich and I made a video detailing this grip style. It’s not for everyone but I’ve been having great success with it personally.
Thank you for the video, very helpful. The one question I have regarding all the volleys you mentioned is should your wrist be locked or bent? I have noticed that when my wrist is bent when volleying, many balls don't land where I intended vs. keeping a locked wrist. Thanks!
It’s both locked and bent! Unless you change your grip where your paddle angle can be completely square forward while not having a bent rise, you’ll need to bend your wrist to achieve the flat angle.
It's neat how every single one of these shots is waaay above the net at a comfortable height for you to hit and directly at you. Each one would actually be a significant mistake that a good player would avoid hitting at you ever. So it's kind of false advertising that you're teaching how to "be a wall at the kitchen", but only as long as your opponents are willing to keep hitting terrible drives directly at you. What really makes a difference is being able to reset GOOD attacks that are way lower and away from your position
Good job criticizing something not even relevant to the instruction. He’s using a ball machine. High or low, blocks are blocks. Yes, you should let out balls fly but that has nothing to do with the video.
@@fireman4him275 You're right, "letting out balls fly" has nothing to do with the video. It also has nothing to do with my comment. Thank you for letting me know that he's using a ball machine, I kept forgetting that between the 5 mentions he made of it. "Blocks are blocks" wow, you are really a wealth of information aren't you? The techniques, principles, skills and goals of hitting back a good low/away attack VARY SIGNIFICANTLY from those for hitting back the shot placement he was receiving in this video which was about as bad as it gets. He kept acting like he was DEMONSTRATING his ability to defend against good bangers. He demonstrated some good concepts, but it's missing the most useful component, and there's no good reason for that
