In the UK there are clear warnings NOT to put wet wipes in the loo. However, we have wipes now that can be flushed as they breakdown quite quickly. I suppose it is good business for Gavin where people don't read the warnings. Another great insight into Gavin's working day and repeat business. As someone who works with plumbers in the UK I can tell you that "flushable" wipes do not break down and do cause lots and lots of blockages. Just because it says flushable on the packaging doesn't mean you should flush it!

Same here in the US. In fact, a house that we were renting at one time that we had just moved into, had to have the plumber immediately come out and clear out the master toilet line, because of disposable wipes being flushed down the toilet. The rental company stuck us with the $250 bill from the plumber...we didn't even have children young enough, let alone the need to use disposable wipes in the bathroom. Disposable doesn't mean flushable. I thought it was universal common knowledge in every country that you don't flush those wipes down the toilet.

@@wyattalsbury2687 The rental/letting agencies in the UK are just as bad, anything to extract money over and above the rental fees they'll try anything. It is the same as pouring melted fat down the sink, it will solidify and clog, but people still do it. Good business for drain companies.

Dozens of water companies in both the US and the UK (probably elsewhere too) are currently fighting lawsuits with "flushable" wipes makers to get that term banned because it is a lie. Lot of flawed testing been done to show how they break down which doesn't happen in the real world. Wipes not only cause trouble for homeowners but wreak havoc in water treatment plants jamming up pumps and lines. Best advice is to not put anything but toilet paper in a toilet.

@@humfelbert2079 I live half way up a mountain in west Wales, all the waste goes into the cesspits and we've never had a blockage. I am a mechanical engineer and I serviced many industrial gearboxes working in 'sewage farms' the stuff that actually makes it through to the initial filters can be amazing. The smell is the same from Plymouth to Aberdeen, but you get used to it. Some sites have methane extraction and they smell really nice, fresh.

The only difference between babies and adults is the amount of pooo 😂. Why in the world would anyone flush wipes is beyond me. Here in the states it is written on the packaging DO NOT FLUSH..I thought that was the standard everywhere. Keep up the good work Gavin.

I'm from the USA and I never flush toilet paper down the drain...never! Retired now but I use to fly Jumbo Jets all over the planet...and I stopped flushing TP down the drai because most of the planet does not flush TP down the drain.

Gav... Gav... Gav... No Good!!! You can't tell the tenant what is wrong with the property. You are responsible to the person commissioning you to do the work and find a solution/solution. Tenants are always looking to not pay for anything, even if its their responsibility. And they will quickly get "confused" between a landlord plumbing problem with a tenants not paying excess water bill problem or tenants broken window problem... Ask me how I know.... If a tank has "floated".... A responsible landlord would have that tank out ASAP. Get it 1m underground, and massively concreted and ballast in. It should not have "floated" in the first place.

No, not tenants' responsibity to fix a drain, unless they were reckless in causing deliberate damage. Landlords love to blame tenants for the landlord's/owners' own ageing infrastructure.
