Hey Mate..... Buy yourself a pool noodle (Foam Rubber) to put over the sharp edges of the pipes when you penetrate...save the hose. 🙂

When I used to encounter rusty/seized connections, I would use a 6mm thick x 20mm wide x 420mm long piece of flat steel stock. I would drill 8mm holes to suit the holes on the cover and have some 8mm round pegs in the toolbox. Then using two holes with pegs in and a bit of WD40 to turn the cover and then remove it. It was a quick and easy method. One thing you should consider buying is a shower cap, lmao mate. Good post and Mrs P was right about the palm tree roots being awkward. Thanks Gavin and I ate my dinner while watching this post keep safe and well 👍💦💧

Have a great way to save your hose!! Buy a pool noodle, cut to width you need, make a slit and slip it on bottom so your hose doesn't get cut.

This drain made you work for it! Our building went through and replaced all the cast iron a few years ago when it was discovered that over the years a few segments had developed cracks. Probably building settling over 70 years had put stress on cast iron drains over time.

To help protect your hose from getting cut on sharp edges, try using a short piece of hose off-cut from a previous hose repair. Cut it down to approximate size of your opening and slit it down one side. Slip the cut over the sharp pipe to use as a makeshift protector. Should work better than a piece of flex pipe that you normally pass the hose through.

Very nice unblocking, also loved to see the setup of your equipement and removing all after the job. It is an important part of the job and heavy work also, but not often shown. Without setting up your gear there is no unblocking, is there.

For 10 or 20 second my friend, you can file down that sharp edge on the pipe so that it will not cut yours or the next guy hoses.

Have you tried using a propane torch on the outside edge of the flange of the clean out? It being cast iron, they will rust where they fit together. The heat will expand the outer surface and help dissolve the rust 👍

In your episode 397 if you use a blow torch around the seal get it hot it will melt the seal and then you be able to get it off with a flathead screwdriver at a hammer

Drainage operators have used a thin blade cutter to free up rodding flanges. Can I ask [on behalf of viewers not used to looking at screens with glare] that you try to reduce the glare when showing the camera pitcher?

You could use a small section of rubber tube or pool noodle, cut down to the opening width, then pushed down on the top and bottom edges. If you have to shorten your hose from a tear, save it and cut it vertical to push onto the edges.

Pool noodle. Or piece of rubber tubing around the hose. Or even a cut piece of a shop vac hose. All would protect your expensive hose.

You can always heat the outside of the pipe, around the lid. Heat is gonna break the rust loose, but is it worth it? More equipment for you to have in the car

Could be completely wrong, and probably are, but it looks like the pipe had been painted to match the fence, and maybe it was sealed by the paint? Either way, loved it as always. Looking forward to the next stormwater/fishing combo vid!

I was going to suggest a short piece of automotive heater hose cut lengthwise to place over the rough edge. Just keep a few hunks in various lengths in the tool kit. Much sturdier than pool noodle or pipe insulation.
