Interesting take from James regarding the lack of celebration after Leota’s try. It felt more to me like they were just locked in on getting the ball back and going again. You look at Cleary’s face after that try and you’ll never see someone with a more locked in look on their face.
As a life-long Panthers fan, it made me so unbelievably happy to see the Peach get a premiership ring. The three-peat is insane too, and Cleary was brilliant, but the Peach was one of my favourite players some years ago and to see him finally have a premiership to his name makes me happy. What a season.
Great job exposing some of the other player’s contributions to the game. Its easy to shine the light on Nathan for the win but the whole team needs to be credited for playing their roles.
@@bushybill7189 WTF are you talking about 99% of the media have an absolute love affair with Cleary and what Tallis said is actually accurate just look at Benji in his prime everyone wanted to be Benji Marshall as opposed to someone like Cronk
@triggerman90 Gordon later qualified it saying it was kids in Townsville... they wanted to be Reece Walsh... I assure you, there are ZERO kids in St Marys who want to be Walsh
People sleeping on Clearys running game. Dude is strong , good footwork , good fend and has pace. They've adjusted every year after a winning , next year I think we'll see him play both sides more and get the ball 2 passes wide more.
Ivan needs credit for giving Critta that conversion from the right side. Considering they won by only 2 points. Even despite Nathan's 50% conversion rate from the right side still would have been a big call for Ivan to make.
Few big turning points, Bronx were up 24-8, around the 58th min, Critta jumped on a loose ball and they go down the field - changed the momentum of the game. Reno’s short drop kicks and Luai getting subbed as well.
As a Penrith fan, I’d just like to congratulate Kempy on this episode. His intelligence and RL insight were always going to be a given. My specific reasoning is how difficult this episode would have been to record and give this analysis when heartbroken. Thank you Denan (& all the boys) for everything this year. It’s been a pleasure and I’ll continue to spread the word on your work. (Nothing to do with this podcast) conversely, I’d like to highlight how disgraceful gordon tallis has been on post GF last night on 360, and the entirety of last week with relentless barbs and one sided views. Zero integrity. Zero professionalism.
Broncos fan here, couldn’t agree more. Watch Tallis when someone disagrees with him - he speaks over them and basically bullies them. Loved him as a player - but in the media …
Denan, I just want to say you are all class. You are an ex-Bronco and you were so balanced in your comments in spite of your disappointment. Great stuff.
I must say although we lost gotta give props to jessie arthurs especially in the first half his run backs reminded me of Karmicheal Hunt i thought he was our best player on the field in the first half
I don't understand the hate for Cleary at all. I think it's because he gets compared to the greats and people are so attaches to them that they're threatened by it? I dunno. And I'm a cows/qld fan but he's an amazing player and seems like a good dude, nothing but love brah ❤️
Re. Timmy’s question about Luai and whether it was all his shoulder or strategy… I was sitting row 3 in the Panthers bay right in front of the posts when Luai came off over the dead ball line. He was dangling that injured arm like it had little strength in it, cussing himself out for being “forced” from the field. Looked to me like he wasn’t able to stay on.
Critta intercepts a bouncing ball and offloads to Leota.Scores a try against The Beast Staggs.Makes crucial tackles against Walsh. He'll be more than Welcome at the Bulldogs
Idk if anyone else sees this, but that first try in particular from Mam gave me alot of Jason Robinson vibes, the way he held the ball tight and almost shimmied and accelerated through the line
Love the poddy Kempy and my thanks and appreciation for how many hours all of you blokes put up over a season. The Dylan Edwards of podcasting churning out the numbers week in & week out! Gotta say though I think the championing of the Broncos is a tad high on this one. Credit they dug in. Absolutely. Credit they produced some mad individual moments. 100%. But, all in, they played well for about 25-35 mins of a GF in my opinion and that's just not good enough, albeit a compliment to see they can go so close without really delivering for the majority of the game. I personally don't think you can say 'If only they'd made 4/5 less errors and they'd have won'. Because the easy instant comeback is 'If Cleary just misses two less tackles the Broncos have 12 less points'. So glad you gave Leota & JFH the credit you did, and the subsequent championing of Carrigan & Haas (Haas in particular) is more than fine. BUT, I believe the score when Leota & JFH are on the field is 26-0. For all the talk of Leota, JFH & Yeo vs Haas, Flegler & Carrigan leading into the game, the result of that particular middle battle was, like it or not, one sided. The drop off to Leniu & Smith was Penrith's main issue on the night in my opinion. Haas & Carrigan are obviously fantastic players so I'm not being a flog, but I feel nobody will come out and say that when they were toe to toe with the Penrith pair that, despite individual stats, the game momentum and flow beyond merely stats shows who dominated without question. In both stints. I'm with Guru that you can talk about them in the Webcke/Petero mould now. Thanks again for another season of podcasting to all of you fellas, love your work and grateful for how many listening hours you put up.
There’s a certain je ne sais quoi about this poddy that keeps me coming back, loving your work kempy. Now you just need to fix that warped photo frame behind timmy aha
Scott sorenson doesn’t even get a mention. In that last minute when he came away with the ball from Walsh that could’ve possibly saved the game for Penrith. Who know what broncos could’ve done if Walsh didn’t give it away. That was a big play too from Scotty.
Only question marks I have for the Broncos - it was mentioned its a similar vibe to 2020 Penrith - in the 2020 GF the Panthers almost came back and stole the game - complete reverse here, the Broncs blew a huge lead and lost in the worst way possible. I am interested to see how they respond next year mentally.
One of the greatest Grand Final games we will ever witness. Just wanted to share my opinion about Clearly, he is becoming one of the greatest number 7's in the NRL era no question at all. Do we think he does what he did if Luai and Yeo don't go off injured? I think if they both stay on the field, Clearly possibly doesn't do what he did because he wouldn't have to do anything special himself if they were still on. Still not taking away his unbelievable performance but something I thought about after the game. Panthers 4 in a row next year 😬 As a roosters Fan... I hope not 🐓🐓🐓
I'm so proud of Broncos boys like so many of their supporters. Difference between two teams was broncos made errors and panthers didn't. However as painful as it was, I'm totally convinced that Broncos' best time has just began. Looking forward to next year. LET'S GO BRONCOS!! Absolutely love them to bit, through and through! ❤️
one of the toughest games to watch as a bronx fan but fuck me seeing ezra throw his body on the line in that last 5mins was a big positive, he threw himself at martin and just cemented his quality i reckon, not just the x factor but the grit too
Matty is the curse. He cursed the bunnies in magic round saying" who's gonna beat us". Now he's cursed the broncos with his premature ejaculation during the grand final.
Imo I think staggs hurt Luais shoulder around the time he comes off. I only saw it live but stags runs full pace at his bad shoulder and it's really heavy contact. A few mins later he gets taken off.
Get all the Bronco players tired. Then show them why the Panthers won the 2 previous GF’s. As Cleary said, he was on the lookout for tired Broncos defenders to get that all important try to level at 24-24. Excellent strategy by Cleary.
Interesting your comment about Joey - could he have done that? He didn't need to ! Cleary's first 60 minutes was woeful, excruciatingly woeful. Without Stephen Crichton's relentless attack, they simply don't win.
Just on carrrigan he didn’t cover across the inside space nore tell Reece walsh to cover that inside where Nathan ran through for the win so all that extra shit he does that your talking about doesn’t matter he didn’t do it when it mattered the absolute most
I've watch the replay like 5 times.. the one bloke no ones mentioned is Reece Walsh on the play... bloke completely stopped moving his feet and didn't cover
@@treybingarape3688 so did carrrigan and he is the LEADER they all carry on about it was his job to tell him or push him in that space he was standing still also
Look head up bronx fans remember Penrith didn’t win straight away they had to grind to win I feel like Bronx have shown greatness to compete with the best and make it to a GF now they got to put in that work going into next szn. Exited to see what the bronx are going to achieve in the coming years.
What I saw was a team who were winning and started to rehearse their winning speeches and forgot the game went for 80 minutes. Worst thing about the game were the Channel Nine Commentators who were so bronco we had to turn their commentary off. Best thing was Cleary and his magnificent last 20 minutes where he showed the broncos how the game was played. Most satisfying moment was when Reynolds, Walters and especially Reese missed the tackle that lost them the game. Jokers, Strokers and Big Game Chokers which will haunt them.
Penrith are just way better then any other team in.the comp ... they hammered Brisbane from the start ... Reynolds was flustered and the middles where absolutely dominated for 65 minutes..
They literally beat Brisbane in the last 3 minutes by 2 points, and Cleary said it was the toughest game he’s ever played in. They had to pull off the greatest comeback in NRL GF history to win. They went 1-1 in the regular season and both lost 5 games.
The only selection mistake Cleary made was picking Tyrone May to play centre against Justin Olam over Brent Naden who he benched in the Penrith v Melbourne GF. Naden came on in the second half and you could see the difference. Ivan chose a versitile utility to play centres over a specialized centre-winger that has played there the entire year. That selection choice haunts me to this day and i bet it does Ivan aswell.
I honestly reckon broncos should look up to the panthers and what they’ve done with such a young team , instead of them & also media creating a rivalry between each other .
Im convinced Haas isn't human haha he's a machine. The stuff he does is just unbelievable. I'm already calling it that he'll be the greatest ever prop and/or forward to have played when he finishes his career
Im worried about broncos punch up the middle next year, flegler has really evolved and gotten the shit out of his game. Hes going to be missed sorely, we get fletcher baker next year but still feel flegler is top tier forward now. And also herbie farnworths work rate is crazy i used to rate staggs over him but tbh if you could resign again i reckon ya take herbie and get rid of staggs. Herbie is alot more consistent but staggs is a beast for sure i just feel we'll see the difference next year with him gone
I would don’t sleep on mariner have a few forwards who can grow with more experience look at flegler earlier in his career te Kura one to watch hopefully Wilison continues to grow
He hasn't got the mungrel like flegler and flegler is alot bigger than fletcher, I've been watching him closely playing for roosters, he's good but we need that mungrel in that pack. Haas isn't that he's the bulldozer that gets through big meters, carrigan is the brains and heart in the pack. Willison is a beast but they're still very young and when it comes to a game like that grand final uo against fisher Harris and leota. You'll see the difference, plus they arnt that mungrel aggressive type which is ok they're going to be great forwards in the future. Arthur's is a gun but herbies work rate is on another level I'm not sleeping on anyone but the stat's don't lie and I don't see any centre in our squad doing it. I've watched mariner play and he's good but he's not putting out what herbie does it's that simple, We'll see next year.
Guru, shame on you. Brad Fittler won his first premiership when he was 19 years of age. First grand final at 18. I know Roosters fans like to think he only played for the Roosters but he captained Australia when still playing for the Panthers.
You need to listen again bro, was talking about as a Captain haha cheers for the heads up on Freddy’s career though, only my favourite player ever haha
Mental what people are saying about Walsh! Granted they kept him quiet first half but that assist alone was absolutely insane. Broncos hang on 2 more minutes and the narrative is Walsh is a king and Nathan Cleary isn’t a big game player….
Love ya boys and I’m usually into the Cleary chat because he will go down as one of the greatest ever I believe. That second half was the greatest gf performance ever. But the disrespect to Joey, Thurston, Lockyer etc. is bullshit, I’m not denying any of his achievements and attributes but the kids 25 and is still yet to dominate origin. The disrespect to Ponga and Johnson as well (Ponga did beat a top 4 side guru). Tough listen turned off vv early
Crichton applied the pressure that makes a champion team reminds me of Qld trapping NSW in goal for 20 mins those are the plays that win it. They wont have that next year
