im surprised nobody in the quest mentioned the word "devil" as they always did in Hearts of Stone. think about it. when gaunter vanishes on the boat the other prisoner immediately says he doesnt like ships because they turn like "devils" and after the spoon olgierds guy says right away "what the devil?"
"I'm currently fulfilling three impossible wishes to an immortal man who made a contract with a guy who controls time for fun. By the way, tell me more about this house. Should be far more interesting"
I guessed that it was a reference to odimm because of the spoons and mirror and the irony of the curse, but I completely overlooked the music playing during the dialogue.
65infanteria me?,go after her!?,are you mad?,clearly you are to suggest something so bloody far fetched.i say...might you be willing to part with your insanity?,I could take it if you wish...I could do many more things as well, and all you have to do...is ask(my theme plays in the background)
My father and I became obsessed with this game when it was released and he'd sit on the couch while I preferred lounging on the floor with our cats. We'd banter on decisions, especially the Bloody Baron. Laughed when Geralt got drunk with his friends and wore Yens clothes. And yes, he had me choose Yen. He acted as if this were a TV series and begged me not to play the game without him present. Our favorite character was O'dimm. So when this quest started we both knew who caused the curse through clues and he jumped up when the song began and said, "I knew it!" Of course, this started our interest in the books. Sadly he has no interest in reading anymore but, he asks me to tell him about each one I read so he's informed which i don't mind.
That’s how my dad and I are with the Assassins Creed series. He treats it like it’s his stories. Even got upset with me once when I finished one of the games saying “you made me miss my stories”, like dude I had a couple missions left lol 😂. But he’ll be sitting on the couch with me while I play ac Valhalla and Cyberpunk
Reminds me of one of my fondest memories with my dad. We used to play Dragon Quest 8 together and give each other tips and where to find things and the best stats for the characters.
The thing that Geralt forgot mention is that wight's soup would kill normal human. If I recall correctly, toxicity meter goes insane after Geralt drinks the soup....which means that normal humans would die a painful death.
Yes, the aftereffect was borderline horrible even for Geralt, and despite of my Geralt having Acquired&Heightened tolerance, it still managed to fill half, if not more of the meter, which was insane
He didn’t forget, it wasn’t part of the curse. The wight needed someone to willingly share a meal with her, could have been take out, but the brew was what was available at the time and what Geralt needed for Regis.
Geraldt did said "Then the beggar broke his spoon, cast the curse..." I knew it was O'Dimm. He has a thing for spoon, and he did broke a spoon before casting the spell for the storm that freed Geralt from the Ofieri ship
Ciri might actually have been there according to the conversation they had when they first met on the witcher 3, after the whole search. She mentions a place with flying ships etc. and Geralt just did not believe her. it could be that universe, who knows?
I knew Gaunter O'dimm was related to her curse when I saw broken mirror in the house and also many spoons. But when I heard this theme - It sent shivers down my spine damn
i think this is a just some sort of coincidence, its not like every mirror related curse is related to him. plus, him beeing a man of mirrors , man of glass has more to do with his nature than the curses he emplores, his nicknames are more refeering to him exploiting the true evil nature of the man he meets, reflecting their malice to themselfs, exploiting it.
@GOLDsken GOLDsken there's a letter from Marlene you can find that straight up says the beggar was a man who sold mirrors. Plus they used his theme. Can't get any more clear cut than that.
have u ever thought about this, what is gaunther o´dimms initials? +i dont think odim was the one who cursed her, i think he uses more finess than that, unless the beggar made some pact with odimm
depends, for me it would technically be 1 - 1. And I don't think O'Dimm cares about loosing either of the two battles*. on the first battle/duel you don't even kill him as he points out in Elder speech if(you choose)/when you defeat him
eell, O'Dim used Geralt to kill the professor in Oxenfurt. And it depends, because you can choose to let Olgierd die. Also you can kill the wight, therefore O'Dim would be right and the wight would have never again be fed by any spoon. So depending on what you choose it could end in a 3:0 for O'Dim. But he at least always makes one point: if you dont visit the professor, Olgierd will die. If you visit him, so you can save Olgierd, the professor will die.
Gaunter O`dimm cant just kill. He has to reflect. standart for the devil. You do not act evil, you trigger evil in humans. He says: Its not me, who kills them, its their rotten corrupt wishes. the Devil can only trade souls, not just take`em.
+Sevenera Geralt wasn't hired by Gaunter to kill professor, he went to find the answer about Gaunter. He kill monsters, not people. Only kill people who stands on his way and its called self defense.
Gaunter O'Dimm is the only fictional character ever that actually scares me. While doing that quest I had a feeling that he was involved (curse, spoons). Then at the end I heard his theme. I was terrified
Anytime I hear his theme I get goosebumps. Gaunter is the only character in any video game that actually gives me the creeps. I’ve played many horror games but Gaunter was the only character to make me feel genuinely uncomfortable, I would even start looking around me in real life as if he could just pop up behind me out of nowhere.
@@Lara-rm3gs After beating him at his own game, he spoke in my native tongue (Georgian). I was already creeped out by this character and that just felt like he was messing with me in person now. Talking to me, the player, in person, in my own language. I finished that quest at midnight too. That scared me more than most horror games I`ve played.
Just imagine how amazing and creepy at the same time it would be if at any point on the blood and wine dlc on a mission, main quest or side quest, we were able to see on a cinematic gauntr staring at Geralt in an alley without Geralt noticing, only the gamer would be able to watch it like some sort of easter egg with no interaction with him at all, just a scene where he stares at Geralt
John North London gaunter o'dimm was designed to blend seamlessly into the background.CD red even gave him a bunch of outfits to wear so he's never seen in the same thing twice.he's there, you just don't notice him unless your *really* looking
John North London yeah didn't u notice in hearts of stone.. when Geralt reading the first notice from notice board about olgeird.. o dimm just passed through behind him.. then in the heist mission if u chose to go to casimir the dwarf then you'll see o dimm leaning towards wooden fence and staring geralt..and when u fought in the auction house with the guards there was o dimm dressing as one of the guards pointing crossbow at u 😀all I can say is when I noticed all of that.. shivers went down my spine..coz he was watching him in every seconds of his life😨
There's a subtle, and truly terrifying undercurrent I believe most people miss in this. When he and Geralt are discussing the woman's Curse, the Majordomo notes that what she rejected was an ancient tradition of hospitality, the denial of which is sufficient to bring down great misfortune upon you. What we know about this particular case all but confirms Gaunter O'Dimm is the one who cursed this woman. Therefore, I posit that the tradition only exists because of Gaunter. He has been doing this for so long, on such a scale, that everyone, everywhere knows to not refuse a beggar who comes to your door with but a bowl and spoon, for it may well be the Devil himself in disguise. He has single-handedly influenced the cultural development of an entire species with fear alone. That is the meaning of true power.
He's been going around breaking spoons and cursing fools at their doorsteps for thousands of years? When was the conjuction? Its conceivable though, nice idea.
As the one who (in-game canon only) indirectly gave rise to Nilfgaard as one of the most powerful empires in setting with a single whisper, I'm not surprised.
When I read the note in her house I was like "Wait a minute, did she cross Gaunter O'dimm?" Then hearing his music in this cutscene confirmed my suspicions and gave me chills. I love this game!
Gaunter is a fair demon. And he's true in what he says: He doesn't curse people, they do it themselves with their own rotten natures. Someone who'd treat a beggar like that deserved to be cursed.
I don't know about that, she couldn't eat for literally 100 years. Can you imagine how hungry, how much pain she would have been in by the end? No one deserves such a fate.
I wouldn't call him fair. Take Olgierd's wish for instance. What he wished for was to reclaim his family estate and be together with his wife. No part of that involved the heart of stone void of emotions. SUre, he got his wish but O'Dimm added a heap of misfortune on top of it.
Your all wrong,I'm fair because I want to be...simple as that,no rules or laws to bind me,I just like giving you little people a chance...not very big chances, but chances none the less
Easily the best side quest in Blood and wine. I completely lost it when I stumbled upon this quest through a note by someone called “Sandy Erkis”, mentioning that her “PRECIOUS” golden Spoon had been stolen by some kind of monster
I remember reading the journal in her lair and when it said "all I know is he sold Mirrors." I knew right away who it was referring too. Then when he said about the Spoon being broken in half I lit up like a Christmas tree. I love references like these in video games.
This was my favorite side quest in all of Witcher 3. I got it wrong at first but persisted. Always have a soft spot for the cursed and for sentient monsters that speak.
The atmosphere of this game is outstanding. The way Geralt relays the story and BBs reaction along with the music is so unsettling. Man, I love this game.
when this scene was happening,Gaunter O'Dimms music was playing in the background and Geralt also says there is a catch to curses, just like what Professor Shack told him. O'Dimm is the Devil himself. Professor Shack said that there was one particular person who managed to survied O'dimms pact. Either he was foreseeing Geralt's destiny or we could see The Witcher 4 about this guy as the main character with O'dimm as the main villain.
+Óskar Agnarsson i think you are abit out of touch of life in general. The Witcher 3 is the end of Geralt of Rivia's story, not the end of the witcher as a series.
If you read one of the letters in her house, it says "I only remember the beggar sold mirrors", roughly. That sent me for a loop. And this lil sound cue was a kick in the gut.
Literally finished Hearts of Stone just an hour before I got this scene, didn't click that it was a reference to O'Dimm until I found this video and listened to the music again.
For the record, should you come upon someone or something that is starving or even missed a handful of days of food DO NOT DO THIS! Such rapid changes in metabolic behavior can lead to Refeeding Syndrome, which can be fatal. Extremely gradual reintroduction of food is required, should professional medical aid not be available.
TheBrightLeafeon Of course. Video games reflect life, but often in ways that are improbable, dangerous, fanciful, or immoral. While many people have the good sense to know not to replicate what happens in a game like GTA, humans seem to have a perpetual case of "the highway to Hell is paved with good intentions". So, being that it's not all too unlikely that the average person will encounter someone who is hungry sometime in his or her life, I felt it appropriate to put out a warning: it only takes a few days for metabolic behavior to change to fat consumption, and a sudden reintroduction of food can be dangerous. IMHO, it's just as important as knowing that rabies doesn't always manifest with foaming at the mouth or aggression.
I got about 385k from all weapons & armors looted through Skellige and Velen and sold them in Novigrad. Then i discovered beehive White Orchard glitch and have about 57M crowns (before it got patched - PS4. On PC i'd put same amount with Cheat Engine). It was pretty easy, wish there was more customizations in Corvo Bianco. Basement looks pretty dull without armor and weapon stocks.
+xXSilentAgent47Xx it's no point using gold glitches in the game as you usually have 80k crowns before getting to Skeleger, (that's from looting and selling everything) after doing the same in Skeleger you have about 150k, that's plenty to upgrade the runewright to master crafted, maxing out the winery and grandmaster/mastercrafted every Witcher armor, after that you still have 50k left
it would be great, if after you done this quest yet you still have the debt for gaunter o'dimm, you could actually mention this and ask what he has to say about this woman who suffered for so long.
Bro back to play this again and at the first play like 4-6 years ago it was midnight and I didn’t pay attention, can’t remember but coming back to play this game again. Got my headphones ready 100% volume the moment I hear this freaking song , I feel something behind my back and some chill wind….
So Gaunter helped you three times. 1. Finding Yennefer. 2. Save your life by summoning the storm. 3. Gaunter probably knows the future. So he creates a wight so that Geralt can track down Detlaff. We pay this debt by fulfilling three wishes on his behalf. Sounds fair.
First time i played thro the game i didnt even make the connection but when i played it the second time and heard the soundtrack i got shivers right away
Guys, there is a note in her home, a letter of this woman to one investigator, where she told that the man who cursed her called himself "the seller of mirrors". So it's undoubtedly Gaunter O'Dimm. Scary and mysterious.
There's no stopping that guy... he even shows up in the base game; He told Geralt where to find Yennefer and directed those Dwarves to the Isle of Mists.
Villager: My dog died, my wife ran away, the entire village was burned to the ground and everyone in the town was murdered by monsters Geralt: Care for a round of Gwent? Villager: Sure!
This actually reminds me of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Gaunter asking for food with a spoon was like the enchantress with her rose, and Geralt’s supper with the wight was like when Belle and Beast eat their own soup without spoons. It wouldn’t surprise me if that was part of the inspiration for this quest in the DLC; especially since the first book/first episode of season 2 references the original BatB story, as well.
Only now I noticed how often O'Dimm uses spoons, e.g breaking them in front of the woman was explained in the video above, in front of Geralt when he was imprisoned and got the mark and also when he stuck one in the eye of the drunken guy in the tavern.
Something tells me that Gunter O Dim's curse was meant to help Geralt to get the rare stuff and her rudeness was used as a excuse. I'm pretty sure that Dim can see the future.
There is another quest in blood and wine related to o'dimm,a knigth's tale u will meet a witch that cursed a girl & changed it into a tree, she was the same witch that told olgierd that o'dimm can grant his wishes & she had broken mirror in her hut
i saw this video before reaching the quest in the game, nevertheless went i did the quest and heard the music, even tho i knew it had to do with Gaunter O Dimm, when i listened the theme playing, i immediately got goosebumps
O'Dimm definitely has something with spoons, the curse, the man he killed when he stops time and when he helps you out of the ofieri boat he grabs the spoon on your "meal"
If you read one of the Book’s at Marlena’s Home it states the Beggar who cursed her sold Mirrors. What an awesome way to overlap identities by CD Project Red. Knew that it was Gaunter O’ Dimm who had laid the Curse then.
Gaunter is really the master mirror. only reflects the evil in one's soul. It's great. I always thought of him as this embodiment of human evil, not as a demon of some conjuncture monster. He is there and he is strong because evil is strong. I kinda think that's why he helps Geralt to keep Ciri alive if he asks to. He reflects. But that would make sense only in a playthrough with my geralt and his choices. head conon, best canon.
O'Dimm was inspired by Leland Gaunt, the main character in the Stephen King's 'Needful Things'. In the book, Gaunt moves to a small town and opens an antiques store that offers magical items to the town's residents, though they can only be purchased by payment in 'favours'. King's Walter O'Dim - aka Randall Flagg - who travels between novels (or dimensions) to perform evil deeds in The Stand shares more than the best part of a name with O'Dimm too. Copy paste from an article of the making of Gaunter O'Dimm.
Farhan Paan He based of the polish story of Pan Twardowski. He was a noble man and sorcerer pact with the devil, (like olgierd). The pact stated that he could only collect his soul if he went to Rome. The devil got him at an inn, which name in polish means Rome
Damn I never read the note nor did I recognise the theme, I thought some random guy cursed her. Gaunter Is one powerful creature. We meet him so early on in the game, and ignore him. I honestly didn't recognise him when he came to meet Geralt on the ship. He is has a bigger role to play in the upcoming games I am sure.
This moment shows us all his evildoing. Casting a curse that will become a tradition in this kingdom for the simple pleasure of scaring people and reveling in their suffering through their fear and appearing fair through this 'punishment'. He really is the closest thing to evil... The devil !
When I saw the note in the mansion that said something like "all I knew about him was that he sold mirrors" I was like aw shit he's still fucking shit up
When in one of her notes she mentioned that the beggar was selling mirrors I was like MonkaS it was him but I somehow didnt hear that his theme played in the end
