Jewelry is one of my favorite songs ever. And I’ve heard it live in concert and hearing it in this format... there’s something just so intimate about it. It hits different semi stripped down like this!
The gorgeous chord progression from the opening song is lifted from Charles Mingus "myself when I am real". Dev gave the credit in an interview. Beautiful interpretation of it and made it his own. He's a true artist.
Loved the performance for the most part, took Ian a sec to get warmed up (or fighting a sore throat, I saw the tea). But this is might be the best Dev's singing has been live and I wanted him to take the lead a bit more. I know he's kinda becoming more of a producer/composer with bringing in guest vocals and such, but I would have loved for him too show out a bit. He's almost too humble haha
wonderful. Ian and Eva are perfect. I had been hoping for this, "Negro Swan" was my favorite album of 2018, and honestly I think it was the best album Dev has ever made.
Nah man Dev is totally in a league of his own. He's harnessing some true power these days. Growing stronger with every album. Soon our ears will not be able to fathom his gorgeous melodies. A true force of nature.
My heart chakra is wide open!! 💜 Thank youuu this touches my heart and soul. I vibed our for half a day with this on repeat and cried. I have made this part of my morning ritual. 🙏🏻
I think a lot about how Dev was bullied badly as a kid and has gone on to with practically every major pop and r&b artist . Nontoxic, proudly black masculinity for the win.
I like how he doesn't introduce himself or the band name when introducing the others. He seems very humble and lets the music speak for itself. They all "killed it!" :D
Ummm who are the 6 heathens who disliked this.... can we speak please because I think you were listening to something I wasn’t because this was beautiful
the chills this whole tiny desk gives me. makes me cry and everything. my favorite of all time. much love to everyone involved. much love and appreciation to everyone involved. thank you, dev. thank you, thank you !!!!!!!!
Epic! Whatever that clarinet / saxophone looking thing is, it sounds smooth as double cream brie. Edit : just read the description. Bass clarinet is now my new fave woodwind
Currently walking through MFAH while listening to this and feeling less upset about the endless rooms of art where the subjects do not look like me. Thank you for representation... fucking lovely.
