Mate you are really coming into your own. Ancient weapons. Nerding out. History. Comedy. Role-playing. Keep going in this direction and you will be a one stop shop🙂👊
@@dashrendar5320 thanks for the correction😆 I believe some Americans, especially from Boston, call cowards "Mary"🤣 Honestly though, again mate, it has been and is so awesome seeing your channel grow, and you trying out different things. Wholesome channels are few and far between these days. Absolute respect from this Aussie Digger👊
You made a great video again with nice research and great sources in your video. Even when I studied this shit in a university I did learn new stuff and repeat well known facts from your video. Love it! ❤
I was already waiting for a video about Gladiators, thank you again for this content! (also thank you for clearing some misconceptions about gladiators that come with media)
training and diet bits are really cool. really like your history summaries - even if it's stuff I already know your presentation style is really entertaining
I love this channel! There's always great stuff on here. I'm also a nerd who likes staying in shape. A couple of my running playlists are an "epic soundtracks" one and a "medieval music" one. I like to think I am training for a quest or adventure. 😁
Great video. I quite loved "Spartacus Blood and Sand" and its sequel and prequel seasons. I was also gutted by what happened to Andy Whitfield, who seems an all around wonderful guy.
Yeah it was a lot of fun and that was tragic. I remember rooting for him, he seemed like a class act and it was just one of those very unfair moments of life
Watching this reminded me of a description of the Gladiator games described by St. Augustine in “The Confessions of St. Augustine.” I don’t know if you are Christian but I actually find early church history fascinating and these studies led me to Catholicism. When he was in Rome a friend took him to watch this “savage entertainment.” Eventually God plucked him away from these shows and brought his friend to Christ.
Stuff like this always reminds me how I'm so glad I live in now times. Don't worry, I was mis-pronouncing along with you. 6:39 The Hippo-cam-pus? Hi-flow-mac-n-cheese? I don't know!
@@dashrendar5320 I felt a bit mean doing that but those comments always seem to be posted for selfish reasons. - First! - And? - Engage with the video properly, please, my friend.
This is all very interesting! A video i think you would like by a channel called AMO Pankration - How did ancient greek athletes exercise. The remarkable "Tetras" It talks about how they structured their training, what exercises they did. It's really fascinating how they understood specificity, progressive overload, periodising training etc. Very cool and worth a watch if you haven't seen it already! Edit: oh actually you talk about tetras
Thanks man, so glad you enjoyed it and I will for sure check that out. I would love to learn more about history whenever I can so thanks for this suggestion.
@@dashrendar5320yeah I can't get enough of it. The other thing that really struck me was how much mind training they did, breath work, structured screaming, effectively meditation. I loved how the Greeks saw the mind, soul, and body as equally important pillars of the self and if one was weak, you were weak.
Informative! Like you noted, modern audiences probably wouldn't like it if movies & shows actually showed historical gladiator physiques. Hollywood always shows gladiator as bronzed adonis with six packs. I wonder if any show/movie will have the courage to portray what gladiators really looked like.
To note, the Lions would rarely be sent on professional Gladiators. If a lion was sent, it was either against a specialist or against prisoners, usually of war, for the sake of a blood bath. Otherwise, great video, but not like that was ever in doubt.
Thank you for those kind words. Yeah I was using it as a bit of a throwaway joke because I though it would be funny but like you said, very specific persons Would engage with the wild animals. Not the standard gladiator
Look at the weapons use before the Roman empire when it was a Republic. Specially the Punic Wars. Mostly the same but the quality was better during the republic days. I’d I’m not mistaken.
very good video man 👍, and I didn't know about the diet of gladiators, I can imagine the happy face they must have when receiving just a little bit of meat 🥩😂💀
"Now based on this you may think the Recquiaotus had the disadvantage seeing he didn't have a helmet..." Too pissed to finish that just yet and craving vengeance he then when and murdered 3 of his Roman capturers with a sling. After putting the bodies in with the lions to hide the evidence he then came back and said... 5:57

Ha no, I am too relaxed to get actually worked up like that. I have competed in BJJ, wrestling and some amateur boxing but in real life I am a happy guy and keep all that stuff where it should be. In a ring with refs haha
