For the Aegis plate I must be silly then cause as soon as I got the Invert ability my first thought was "HEY Why not use it on the biggest vertical room of the game, I bet there is a big secret over there !!" got their, and then I found the armor, my personnal biggest "CALLED IT !!!" moment in this game XD
You really should have played this on PC/Steam. I played it on a fairly modest laptop and didn't have a lot of the issues with performance or fiddly visuals. Though it probably helped that I liked the visual style more than the traditional 2.5D game which I also typically am not wild about.
Each one of tjeir opinons, to my is by far the best successor for sotn, a LOT of content, much refined gameplay and much more replay value than any metroidvania on the market
I originally played it on my friend's Switch as he had the game and I didn't have a Switch yet. I loved the gameplay as someone who loved SotN back in the 90's, but it was the loading times and the frame rate dips on the 3D panning sections that got to me so I immediately looked for it on PC and bought it there.
I struggled to finish this game because I just did not find it fun. I thought the game was ugly but I decided to ignore that because of the good reviews this game gets. I was seriously disappointed. Unattractive, bad boss fights, full of mobs that are boring to fight, it's just a slog to get through.
Game could have worked better as a 2D game, 3D graphics didn't add much to this game, those 2.5D gimmicks like parallax, the whole rotating tower and occasional camera movements didn't add much to game. I would have rather seen some top notch pixel art and animation, like in Blasphemous 2.
Probably the only metroidvania i stopped playing and have little motivation to get back into in order to beat it. Im glad to see someone with a more reasonable take as seeing all the praise being heaped in this game really made me feel like I was missing something, only to return to the game and give up again due to lack of motivation
One more thing - it has NG+, but no scaling to your level. So, if you got all crystals, all food, all levels - you're gonna curb-stomp everything on your way. Speaking about collectibles - once you've gathered all of them and got Gebel's glasses (or whatever it was), you're gonna become unbeatable. Especially with time-stop ability.
As a lover of Symphony of the night I too was underwhelmed by this game. I just couldn’t get over the graphics. They really let it down. Still beat it though. I was just expecting more coz it was from IGA
I'm gonna have to disagree with it being mediocre. My only real gripes with the game are the graphics, the ageis plate and water movement shard and a few other unclear progressions, and the fact that they could not implement a full on coop function in all modes. Everything else is pretty much what I want from a metroidvania game. Extra modes, good and bad ends, interactiong systems like crafting and quests and shard absorbtion, secret bosses and areas... I will grant that if those gripes affect you though, they will hit you HARD. 2.5d is just not as good as pixel graphics and won't hold up as well over time, you can totaly get held up by those two block points or a few others since they have no kind of clue like prior vanias, and dammit I wanted a full coop vania but "the engine won't allow it" which I understand as a reason BUT STILL SUCKS MAN. At the very least, I'd say it's probably one of the more sucessful Kickstarter games and campaigns. They delivered on most of their promises and invented alternatives where they could not, and even if we disagree on whether it's good or mediocre, a mediocre game is still way better then the other messes to come out of kickstarter like Mighty Number 9.
@@MetroidvaniaGuru It was in the description, which was the first bit i saw, so I preemptively typed this up. Sorry. I'll leep it up because I feel the comment's still fairly accurate.
Again, I agree. Was pretty good, but not great. My Switch game was buggy and would frequently freeze or need to be reset. Difficulty and ramp was good, but there was one shard that I leveled up, and made every enemy or boss, including the last one, piss easy. Literally throw knives and hold one button to win.
PC Steam is the way to play, switch is for holidays. Joke aside yeah the switch version sucks, but this game shines better on PC, like most indie games. Cool review though. A bit harsh but cool.
About the bottlenecks - IMHO that splitting of the red moon was pretty dumb. Had to google it. I know there was something similar in SoTN. To be honest, I didn't have nerve to read all the generic lore, maybe it was explained and I missed it, maybe it wasn't. But when I should have known to split the moon, I had no clue :D
This one was great al well as it's companion games. I may be wrong but as of Classic Mode 2, the game is now Content Complete. I wouldn't be surprised if they're already working on the sequel.
I've subscribed before, but I would unsubscribe and subscribe again just for your starting statement: this game is just good, 7,5 and nothing else. Worst part is the sluggish, slow and clunky movement and combat system, with Miriam moving like a tank while the enemies are a lot more agile and fast.
