Never been much of a Bloomer fan but he has been one of the leading innovators in the sport. I always got a kick to his rule interpretations like the plexiglass window net and the hood scoop modifications that drove the officials crazy. He is a driver that really has a good understanding of the physics behind the set-ups and the geometry of the car. It is what the sport of racing is lacking today.

I have heard the same story from my uncle. A friend of his bought a rolling chassis from Richard Petty that was raced in NASCAR to race in ARCA. Car was finished off with their engine. When it was time to go through tech, he found the only legal thing was his engine. Was told the only way that car would race is if Richard Petty was driving it Please have more personalities from dirt racing - there are guys like Billy Moyer Sr, Brian Birkhoffer, Johnathon Davenport, Tim McCreadie, etc A legend to get on is Larry Moore - He definitely has some stories of "innovation" at the track.

If you think nascar doesn't dictate how things go sometimes in auto racing your sadly mistaken. So many drivers in lower levels are twice the racecar drivers you see on track running good and winning.
@alexanderkrusniak4039
@alexanderkrusniak4039 Год назад
That's the difference between a driver and a racer, a driver is just another person in the seat. A racer puts his whole life, blood, sweat and tears into what he loves, and alot of them are WAY better than any cup driver, but will never get the shot
@joshuapowers4623
@joshuapowers4623 Год назад
What do you mean specifically? Because of course NASCAR dictates how things go sometimes, as does every other sanctioning body of every organized sport that's ever existed. Organized sports cannot exist without that dynamic, that wasn't some profound claim you made. This example is harmless, but it's exactly how conspiratorial thinking works. A non-disprovable claim that allows every individual to apply whatever specific they choose to it.
@kyleolson279
@kyleolson279 Год назад
@@joshuapowers4623 The difference between motorsports and stick and ball sports is that there's no competitive architecture. NASCAR markets itself as having the best drivers in world while having a field full of drivers (except for a handful) that have little to no meaningful accomplishments besides a last name or the $ their family brings. If you've been around racing long enough the difference between a racer and driver (helmet bag carrier) shouldn't have to be explained to you. The vast majority of drivers in the cup series have had wealthy families that spared no expenses (hiring the best crew members, driving mentors, buying the best equipment, etc.) from the time they started racing. Meanwhile the racers they're competing against are on limited budgets and having to go through the school of hard knocks. A racer has to learn driving techniques on his own, a racer has to learn how to set the racecar on his own, a racer also tends to drive more conservatively because he foots the bill and does the work on the car.
@kyleolson279
@kyleolson279 Год назад
@@joshuapowers4623 Scott Bloomquist had a proven pedigree. He had dominated dlm racing for several years, won on pavement against national caliber guys, and NASCAR told him he couldn't race with them because he's too "controversial". I think the point being is that NASCAR markets itself as having the best racecar drivers on earth while dictating who they allow to race with them. They did not want a guy that had been arrested for selling drugs to come in and have success. They knew if Scott got a good opportunity he'd do well.

I been going to races for 25 years, I can't begin to describe the things I have seen Scott do at many many different tracks, the dude is a complete jerk in the pits and around people but my lord you talking wheel a race car, I have seen him absolutely scare other drivers. I will never forget this one, They put a bounty on him in hagerstown MD after he had won there like 3x in a row. A extra $1000 to every driver that out ran Scott. Well qualifying came and no Scott, about 10 15 minutes before the feature here he came pulling in. He gets out from driving his rig with driving suit on, goes back lowers door, they roll car out the back, he gets in they put fuel in and gauge tires while he gets in and let's car warm up and puts helmet on, pulls around to scales gets weighed and sets at entrance, about 2 minutes go by here comes all cars on track, of course Scott starts in rear, it's 100 lap stars race. The green drops and it looks like he is shot out of a cannon, there was quite a few cautions in beginning so it took him to about lap 40 to get the lead but he absolutely held it wide open and lapped everything there but 5 cars. He gets out in victory lane he says so much for you fking bounty Hagerstown. Lol

That's awesome! Hope y'all hold on to it. Assholes finally got our track shut down and leveled. It opened in '53. Shameful.

Sounds like tracks at cleveland tn, sold,reopened then gone for good, Boyd in chattanooga on limited races if McDowell had his way it would be wide open.

@@jimhice7485 Yup, Cleveland was my home track. Dale was going to buy it but got fed up with all the red tape and they brought Boyd's. Damn shame. They still haven't done anything with the property.

I wonder if anyone could have bought Bubba's car after his win? There were some very dominant cars at Daytona that won also.

I met Scott in the 80’s and 90’s at Pennsboro Speedway and watched him race at PPMS. Would love it if my favorite NASCAR car driver/owner Jeff Gordon would pick Scott up to drive for Hendricks just like he did Jimmie Johnson. Scott is a damn good race car driver.

Next year, Brett Hearn ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT A SINGLE BIT OF DOUBT needs to be on this show. Hearn not only is the win leader in Big Block Modified racing, but he also attempted to run the NASCAR Busch Series. His stories would boggle people's minds.

NASCAR has always been this way. I remember when Dale and Childress were so strong on the superspeedway and NASCAR took a set of heads from Childress so they could inspect them. Then Richard found out NASCAR was letting select other teams have a look at their heads to see what they were doing. So unfair.
