I haven’t heard the argument in awhile but it’s crazy when people try to use Khmer Rouge as an argument against communism. When they were pretty far from any form of communism, and they were the only “communist” country America actively supported. Should raise eyebrows about their Pol Pots adherence to theory
@@paulmaartinyup. When those two are aligned you know whatever they’re supporting is atrocious. Same with how the KR was supported both by the US and the CCP.
I love the idea that blood sacrifice is how the US advances its goals. It may as well be that, decisions get made, they advance US interests, and a lot of people die to maintain the Empire. Then the cycle repeats, over and over, propping up a dying corpse. It's never their own blood, it's the sacrifices of others to keep them where they are.
Blood sacrifice. Actually that's an interesting idea. Reminds me of full metal alchemist and wasn't the war against that one group of ppl in fma ultimately supposed to be a blood sacrifice to bring a homunculus or something
I really appreciate the acknowledgement that Pol Pot was a Frankensteins monster of western imperialism. He really was. Often times I hear leftists talk about him without the proper context that what happened was a direct result of what we were doing to the Cambodian people and our taking advantage of the sink Soviet split. It seems like from what can tell, yall will dive into this much needed context for what I think is probably one of the most misunderstood parts of modern history
sino-soviet split, do you mean? I agree, a lot of people know that this is Kissinger's crowning glory, but too far from enough. And now they're on to the latest phase of lining the arms corps wallets to spend Ukranian, and ESPECIALLY Palestinian lives. And then the thousands of exploding pagers in Lebanon...
It's not misunderstood. It's simply not discussed because it blurs the lines between "good guy/bad guy" narratives government medias try to paint every major conflict for the masses which has worked since WW2. The idea of Western governments backing a rogue extremist communist state to destabilize East Asian Communism especially after pulling out of Vietnam is not unlike say funding Islamic Terrorism to combat the Soviet Union or to destabilize the Middle East to keep a hold on Oil Supplies and everyone's favorite genocidal tax write-off Israel. With the Khmer Rouge and the Killing Fields, the idea of painting the Vietcong/NVA in a positive light was not possible for Western media/historical biases. Admitting you lost control of your own Cat's Paw never looks good.
"Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands. You will never again be able to open a newspaper and read about that treacherous, prevaricating, murderous scumbag sitting down for a nice chat with Charlie Rose or attending some black-tie affair for a new glossy magazine without choking. Witness what Henry did in Cambodia - the fruits of his genius for statesmanship - and you will never understand why he’s not sitting in the dock at The Hague next to Milošević." Goddamn, that went harder than I thought it would.
Kissinger himself can spawn so many Blowback seasons. Not just Southeast Asia, but also Chile, Argentina (fuck it, most of South America), Bangladesh, Indonesia etc would all be amazing to see. Excited for this one though. It’s a shocking series of events.
I believe they function off of pure rage like a "hulk" and turn that into well researched leftist perspectives of the awful things the American government has carried out.
God damn, what a trailer. Props to the person(s) responsible. Economical use of 2d drawings, 3d models and puppeting cards. The overall feel of it reminded me of the Pearl Jam's infamous Do The Evolution music video, but even more sinister due to the incredible music design. That sword raising sequence with blood falling on the village, ::chefs kiss:: Never heard of the PodCast before, this is gonna make me listen to it. Well. fucking. done.
these trailers do such a good job visualizing the pit in my stomach i get just thinking about these capitalist pigs in government. good work, blowback D2A D2I
Guys... These animations keep getting better. Y'all need to get funded for a fully animated documentary on some of these seasons. I'll be waiting on kickstarter guys.
POL POT POL POT POL POT POL POT POL POT POL POT POL POT POL POT POL POT POL POT POLPOTPOLPOTPOLPOTPOLPOTPOLPOTPOLPOTPOLPOTPOLPOTPOLPOOOOOOOOOOOOT! IT'S A HOLIDAY IN CAMBODIA! WHERE YOU'LL DO WHAT YOU'RE TOLD! IT'S A HOLIDAY IN CAMBODIA! WHERE THE SLUMS GOT SO MUCH SOUL! POL POT!
Its "funny" how Kissinger will alway be included when talking about Cambodia, despite the fact he wasn't really the main guy behind the bombing of Cambodia. This is not Henry's defence btw. He was a monster without morality, responsible for death of thousands. Its just there are too many people that have clean reputation despite their crimes being well known.
Unbelievably good trailer. Does anyone know where the "...it's just a bad country" and "If we have to use the Khmer Rouge as a pawn" quotes are from? It sounds like the same guy.
@@BrodyTaylor24 Thank you! Found the full quote: “We’re still fighting the Vietnam War, and this is the last battle of that war, and if we have to use the Khmer Rouge as a pawn in that we’ll use them,” he said. “We don’t appreciate that we’re being used by the Khmer Rouge rather than the other way around.” Bone chilling.
Fuck! The Khmer Rouge were scary as shit. Driven mad up in the mountains getting US ordinance dumped in their vicinity day and night while they went nuts drinking rain water and eating bugs.
The USA's support of the Khmer Rouge causing near-apocalyptic bloodshed in Cambodia, purely to have a vassal helping the Americans against the Vietnamese during the Vietnam war. It ultimately didn't work, the Americans and Khmer both lost their wars, meaning all the death in a neighbouring country was caused for nothing.
Very good if you want to learn more about history, they’ve got sources available on their website for seasons as well, I’ve found sources from their website that I’ve used for college papers
