Hey man, might not seem like it is worth it, but stick to it. No one in any genre I have seen explains things as clearly and efficiently as you. Combine that with truly unique ideas and an entertaining delivery and well, just start doing videos. Once you reach critical mass, you will be huge. So much better in explainig and unique ideas than pretty much every other project, car camping etc. creators out there.
@THEUPSTAIRS100 I appreciate that. I just added up all the money I spent on the projects in the last year. Let’s just say it’s a good thing this is a labor of love haha.
@@MattTheDesigner I don't know anything, but based on your competition, your labour of love will have zero chance of not succeeding. If I could buy stock in you, I would withdraw my Luna from FTX and forego any diversification to hold 100% of your RU-vid creator stock (may not be the best analogy). Every project you have done is done 100x the same old way by other creators, all of yours are truly original, practical, easy to understand and duplicate with your videos and aesthetically pleasing. Please quit your job and do this full time.
@@MattTheDesigner He's 100% right, man. I eagerly await your videos and check constantly to see if a new one is up. You're videos are funny and informative. Very great content and original execution of ideas. Keep going as a labor of love, but understand the time will come for that 100,000 and on and on until you not only break even on investment, but make some good cash to fund these awesome ideas.
These comments are spot on.. GFV !!! I'm new to this game. I have been in the process of converting over a 2008 suburban. Me and the wife spent our first weekend in it. I noticed the condensation on our windows this morning and remembered watching your video and thought i need to do this. Btw how did you get them to stay in the window?
I wasn't expecting to watch this whole thing, but the way you went into it in full detail and teaching in such a calming manner, was really something. I admire your innovation and the attention to detail that you placed here. Subscribed and looking forward to more videos!
That's an awesome upgrade from reflectix. You could even carpet the interior side to help mute sound as well and just provide a less harsh internal recording environment too if you wanted.
instead of the ABS plastic panel that will set you back a few hundred for all the windows.. and carpeting can create mold under the fibers from condensation.. what about thin foam poster board? the foam doesn't have fibers that can trap moisture, comes in color black, easy to cut, can act as an insolation, and it's a lot cheaper. you could reuse campaign political signs and just recolor one side, to make this project as cheap as possible
Hey man, love the projects you design and build. Have to call you out on the hesitation while saying "Black Caulk" though 00:01:35 🤣 Keep up the good work!
I though he was hesitating ----- Caulk or Caulking --- because he doesn't like the word Caulking. Who knows? If that's the case then I understand his point.
Nice build! Random note for someone not wanting to fashion their own fan contraption: they make solar/battery powered window fans that hook over the top of the window and work really well. The hook width is usually enough to accommodate something like this as well, though certainly far bulkier. But if you're already doing this, might as well go all the way & do your own fan. If you do go that route, might as well add a couple of simple square hooks at the top of this to hang on that same window edge rather than relying on friction/gasket.
Brilliant, mate. I lived in my car for a year 2010/11 here in Britain, and ^ this would have made life far more comfortable and a lot easier. Excellent concept and realisation, nice one 👍🏽
I think these ideas are great for tiny living in general. I haven't seen a lot of people working with plastic in this way. I'm so inspired to make some custom organizers for my next living space!
Never knew I wanted to add this to my build project. Thanks for sharing. You made something so complicated look so easy. Baby screws? Yes, please! You are an easy to follow teacher with a soothing voice. Gives me confidence to try and tackle this on my own. :)
The last thing you said can be applied to learning and mastering any skill. I drive a Semi for a living, I've taken out railroad crossing signs, a parked truck and bumped my share of docks a little too hard. But from those mess-ups I've learned what not to do and I've become better for it.
This will be too expensive to make for ordinary campers. However you are an inventer and teacher by excellence! The calm and detailed way you take people with you, even the most left handed person will understand what you are saying! So many things you could do with those talents!!
Just found your channel and easily my favorite for SUV camper builds. Quality build, editing, and a wicked sense of Humor. Keep it up man, I'll definitely be following along!
Nice ! I build window blinds for my car last summer with camping mats with a reflective side, effective, easy, but it only block light and provide some thermal and sonic insulation. No ventilation, no pockets. Lots of good ideas in your design, thanks !
I've lived in cars for years, gotten great at fabricating all kinds of organization out of all kinds of eclectic objects, but I've never thought to use a plastic like that! This general method opens up all kinds of new ideas for me, thanks! Very cool design as well
I have always thought that the window area was wasted space when I'm car camping. This is absolutely brilliant! I'm not sure I could do it just like you did but it certainly gives me an idea or two. I could definitely see myself making some pockets.
Nice Matt, love the design. I'm going to give it a go, but just wondering how you have secured the panel to the window? Is it just a snug fit that stays put? Or did you use suction caps or something? Sorry if this was in the vid, I must have missed it haha enjoying the vids mate, as a fellow industrial designer your ideas provide great inspiration as they are very creative and functional 🙌
There is a rubber gasket the the window slides into. It sits inside of that on the CRV. Friction fit could work too depending on how your window works.
This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for and had no idea how... you solved all of the issues I've been concerned about in ONE awesome project that I think I can actually do! You earned a subscribe from me! BRAVO!!!
You are so funny XD The moment your hair flew away, I woke up the entire building with my laugh. I love your ideas and your designs. Totally my style and totally doable. Do you plan to mount a solar panel on your roof? I would be curious to know how you would do it.
I’ve experimented with some smaller panels and realized we usually camp where there are trees and only really pulled in power on the road. So it’d need to be a decent size panel to take advantage of the days the rig is actually in the sun which would limit space on the roof for extra gear. All that to say… yes I’d like to but not sure exactly what to do yet. 🙃
WOW! Just WOW! Happy to have found your channel via a women's nomad group on FB. Your work is amazing and your instructions well presented, no gimmicks or distractions. THANK YOU! Subscribed.
This 4 month old video just trended into my Recommended Videos and your blend of authenticity and not taking yourself so seriously tastes just like a fine wine. Instant follow! Now on to binging the rest of your videos...
I like that all you had to do to connect the wires and give them structure was just by adding shrink covers... without the use of solder. I appreciate that. I don't like soldering. 💛✨️
FWIW, the four wires on the fan are for +v, GND, Sense, and Control. As you found out you can just connect power to the +and GND and get it to spin. The other wires are to control the speed anywhere between 0% and 100% depending on requirements (ie how hot the CPU is).
I’m surprised it took this long for someone to say that haha. I assumed it was something like that. Maybe I’ll update it and add a switch at some kind.
Matt, have you ever thought about inventing/ designing/ building/ installing turnable front seats in your passenger car? Turnable seats are available for RVs, but not for cars as you may know. The turning mechanism needs to be slightly more sophisticated than that for a RV. But yeah, that would be the icing on the cake of a passenger camping car.
@@MattTheDesigner Welding steel is not a challenge. Welding machines for that purpose are relatively cheap. The challenge is how to get the chair within that confined area turned.
Amazon features swivel seat bracket units with a large center pivot hole for seat wiring starting at $160. A bracket would need to be welded up to fit the individual vehicle. My van has a heat vent that I would need to clear under my seat for its continued use. I am toying with the idea of a junk yard seat pedestal and removing a center strip and modifying the pedestal to accept the swivel unit. Object here to install the swivel with no change in height or mounting. Early days for this project yet. ABS cement for plumbing would take the place of screws.
I just found your channel! I'm still shaking my head and laughing!! BUT!! I do love your design! Right now I'm getting ready to watch more from you.. please keep your videos coming. You have great gifts and talents!
Just found your channel, I hope you keep making videos. Entertaining and really informative with great editing. I'd love to know what resources you found useful for making 3d models
Brilliant? There is nothing about being stupid doing something inventive even if it doesn't come out right. The fact that it is a new idea it will eventually work out in being determined and work things out. Love the construction you made. Cheers.
Awesome design! If you don’t mind me asking, what size ABS sheet did you go with? Would it be a good option for the rear window too? Maybe that could be a future video idea if you’ve got the time!
Hey Mike. I used the 24x48 .06”. I’ll deal with that back window at some point for sure. The shelf I made makes it less of a priority because we don’t really need the back window to act as storage now.
@@artdeb86 honestly it might matter. You have to bend it a little to get it into place and it wedges in between the window and a rubber gasket that the window slides into. I’m not sure though. I’d try finding other sellers with a similar product.
This is SO COOL! I’ve never seen a project made with abs plastic and now I feel like a whole world of opportunity has opened up for custom ideas! Thank you!
I have no idea why I watch this kind of video, as I'll probably never go live in a van or such. However, I do find them interesting, and have for quite a few years now. You Matt, win this year's (so far) for being the first ever that I have seen use a sewing machine! Great video and great idea!
This is awesome!! I might do a layer of reflectix in between a layer of heavy felt and the abs module, such that the felt is touching the glass and possibly incorporated into the snorkel system, because i live in a really variable climate, but that's absolutely ingenious design man i love it!!🤟😁
This is on point. I'm not even have a need for such a thing and I still watched it and even took some mental gymnastics to understand what you did, so kudos to you. I know I'd look stupid if I tried it, but in the future, if I ever need it, I will be stupid just for the sake of it.
Holy guacamole! So I was looking for something DIY and simple and normally when I see something that looks complicated (to me) and isn't a process I'm going to go through, I click off of the video... but I had to stick around to the end to see your final product! Very impressive!!
I've been on YT long enough to remember when people made videos that weren't "watch me tell a story and do a thing" but, rather, were "here's how to do this thing; watch this video and *you'll* learn how to do it too". Every now and then I stumble on a new channel with the old ethos, and my hope for the species experiences a momentary uplift. Thank you for making content that informs and educates viewers, rather than the other option, which I think of as "TV 2.0", and largely pointless. Subbed.
Fantastic. Your production level is amazing. Your ideas and design very impressive. I dont want a fan just now, but i will make these window covers now. Put fans in later. Peep out hole...pockets...fan.....brilliant
Dude, your clip of the fan blowing off your wig with the music totally made me subscribe! That was pure greatness!! Keep up the incredible work! I'm here for it!
I use my truck for camping with my family. The truck topper is usually so full you cant see out the back so i made something like this for the rear windshield. Now the kids can organize all of their stuff in their own designated space.
A gentleman and a scholar! Think I’ll be ordering some abs plastic to play around with once I finish my current project for my subi’rv. I even have a broken mbp I can pilfer the fans from.
That's cool ! Now you just have to find a way to place a small heater in front of the fan, and it'll be gooood for winter ! Love the wind in the hair 😂
Yup too technical for me. Great in principle. I've carpeted thin plywood shaped to fit my van windows... you've given me inspiration to add storage .Nice work!))
When our kids were young we bought window covers for the back windows of our Toyota Verso. They were just mesh for shade but they could be a good starting point either to use the shape or to attach the whole window cover you made to the mesh as it would be really secure. Cool idea. 👍
lol I immediately went straight to the description of the video to see where i could buy these! But you made them yourself! Great job! I will definitely give it a try when i find the right car i want to put these in!
This was the video I needed. I have been working on my own prototype for something very similar and this gave me some more ideas and confirmed some of how I had already planned on executing it
I can't stand those reflectixs for windows! This is brilliant. Mental note, remove fan from broken computer... I like the storage and the USB change, too. Even without storage, it is a great solution for the tiny useless windows at the back (SUV). I love your tutorials, they are fun and easy to stop and follow when making. (I'm glad you didn't edit out removing the clips, we need to see that so we don't leave it in! Keep those adjustments in!)
Thanks for the inspiration, I've got a CRV and I'm planning on giving all this a whack soon. Haven't found anyone that does it as well as you, hope you keep it up!
so your video was suggested via algorithm and I gotta say; I'm not in the market to make something like this but the scene of you and the little hat made me smile. I'm subbed for that alone. looking forward to watching more vids
This is only the second video of your that I have watched. You are a genius my friend. I'll be watching a lot more of your stuff. Thank you for such an awesome channel.
