My favorite part was seeing number 4 pulling it in tight after a nice turn to also help slow his speed, then with the help of the speed brake and pedal slide gets right back into the slot. (36:00) I don’t know how many times I rewound that part of the video. Love it!
Wow. Just think of the energy these pilots use just to focus..that alone would be crushing. No wonder they have to be in tip top shape. Bravo..what outstanding flying
Such a great view. Thank you for sharing. It would have been even better if we had Boss' communications as he called out the maneuvers as well. But I'll take what I can get and watch these awesome pilots do things most people can only dream of. And they GET PAID FOR IT!!!!! 🙂
As a SF Bay Area native who has gone to SF Fleet week every year since 2008. I never knew how much airspace the Blue Angels used for their performance. They cover a very large area.
This is mind blowing, Incredible, and beautiful.Watching this on a 32inch 1080p in full screen mode. I take my hat off to these pilots. The concentration to pull this off time after time is off the charts.
I lived in the Marina just off the green for over 20 years so I estimate , including practice days which started on Thursday, I must’ve seen the Blue Angels fly/perform close to or over 100 times. Each was spectacularly exciting👍👍 I think I’ve seen it commented that fleet week San Francisco is their favorite airshow to fly; as no other city can compete with the beauty of the San Francisco Bay.
Very interesting event starting at 6:39. In preparation for the Diamond Dirty Loop (which is a loop performed with landing gear and tail hook down), Boss commands "Boards" at 6:39. (‘Board’ is the navy pilots' term for the air brake, which extends up from the fuselage between the twin tails. The team uses boards to slow down to 250 knots, which is the max speed at which landing gear can be lowered.) It takes only 1 second for the boards on #2 and #3 to extend partially and stop moving, and then at 6:43 their boards continue extending to the full position by 6:44, and remain fully extended until at least 7:05 (when the landing gear is lowered). But watch carefully the board on #4 (the slot pilot, directly behind the camera aircraft). Instead of starting to extend at 6:39 like the others, #4’s board doesn’t start extending until 6:41. At that time it extends only partially and then retracts back down completely by 6:43 (while the others' boards remain extended). At 6:46 #4's board begins extending again, but by this time #4 is moving forward in the formation (due to not slowing as much as the others) and has to drop down from the formation to maintain safe clearance from Boss (the camera aircraft). At 6:48, you can see #3 pilot’s head turn further to his right as he notices #4 *way* out of position. In response, #3 immediately maneuvers laterally to his left, giving #4 more space. #2’s head also turned as he noticed #4 out of position, and he maneuvered a bit higher, but not laterally like #3. By 6:55, #4 has undoubtedly already reported his situation to the team, because #2 and #3 start maneuvering back to their normal positions. #4 is now slowing more than the others, which results in him dropping back quite a bit from formation by 7:05, when Boss commands "Gear down" (for the dirty loop). #4 doesn’t return to his normal position until about 7:23. What does this all mean? Mechanical issue? Pilot error? Heck if I know. I only started looking at this closer because I saw #3 suddenly maneuver laterally out of formation for no apparent reason.
Watching the transition from Diamond to Echelon Parade formation and back is insane! Seeing how they fit in to their slot while in the turn was amazing!
I'm only 2 minutes into this, but already I can say this is the finest formation flying video I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot. Watching the control surfaces was particularly interesting and seeing how the rear plane sideslips was amazing. Like all formation teams, they are amazingly talented, but this serves to highlight just how amazing!
Great perspective. They fly with GoPros all the time… a full forward looking view would be awesome just so we could see the rejoins and how much rudder work there is. Thanks for posting. Love this channel Dave
As a civ, getting this perspective on all the micro-regroupings or tightening/loosening of the formation is incredible! Only been to 1 airshow and it was way better than any heavy metal concert! 🤘
How do they maintain such perfect synchronicity?!?! it must take so much practice.. it's so scary to think about!!! I would never be able to do that! I have so much respect and admiration for these men
So mesmerizing to watch. I don't know that I remember seeing that dirty loop before. Loolks like some serious Gs at the bottom of that vertical break. Super impressive flying as always. Fly Navy!
Unbelievable footage 👍! But SF's most loyal companion - the fog! - was sure starting to build up, I am sure they were happy got get the show finished in time!
F-18 Hornets, Alcatraz, Beautiful San Francisco - I just feel like I woke up as Nicholas Cage waving 2 flares with a huge adrenaline injection in my heart and my girlfriend is the Prom Queen ❤
I've seen the Thunderbirds & Blue Angeles twice in Knoxville Tennessee. They must put restrictions on them in Knoxville because you can see them breaking the speed of sound at shows over water.
Was this out of Moffett Field Mountain View, California which is very close to san fran? My dad was stationed there for years so as a kid we saw the blue angels every year. Go Navy!
AoA lights for the carrier LSO to observe while on final. They can see if the aircraft is on speed, slow, or fast and relay what the pilot needs to do to maintain glide slope to the deck.
This always makes me listen to a song which is The Boys are Back In Town and let's not Forget the Girls. Pretty Awesome People. Really out there Unique Flying Skills On Display, Absolutely Brilliant.
I haven't watched it yet. But I can tell you it's not real just a couple of planes dragging mirrors behind them. Until they invite me up for a ride. I’m sticking with that story.
I was so sorry for your lossless your pilots you guys it’s a family of heroes this take time for me I love you guys but I do this now both of my heart 💙🗽 my name is Ludvig I am true big fan U.S. Air Force Picture of you guys big are power of blue angels 🇸🇪🫡🇺🇸💙🗽
It's crazy to me the hot exhaust gas isn't melting or messing with the other planes rudders directly behind it!? Maybe I'm just uneducated but these planes and pilots are truly the best at what they do! 🫡🇺🇸
