As a Latino I enjoyed it, but I often felt the confusion of non-Latinos in the theatre when jokes came along like the Spanish translation. The subtitles were off sometimes it didn’t make sense. Especially when they used El Chapulín Colorado a “Latino Superhero” as a reflection to Blue Beetle. And it had a lot of Spanish songs which made me feel strange in the theatre mostly because I wondered how people took this.
Heck I noticed in the theater for Across the spider verse there weren't always subtitles when Miles and his mom was talking but could infer and still enjoyed the movie.
George Lopez was it for me. I'm not Hispanic but goddamn if we don't all have a paranoid conspiracy theorist family member. Xolo was great. But the family dynamics through the good bad and corny is what i loved. I felt the embarrassment when they were doing something corny. I liked this movie. Not the worst time you'll have in the theater this year. I promise. Good fun time.
It was just so awesome. The whole package. When they hit u with emotion and action it goes through the blood pressure. The end twist was unexpected. Unlike Venom that dislodged and detached Peter Parker and Spiderman this one really respected Ted Kord. I also saw my Black and Green Beetles. SO I WON!
This movie was truly the greatest thing ever. I can't imagine anything ever being this cool again. I might kill myself. Not because I'm depressed, but because I'm so happy and I know nothing in my life can ever compare to this moment after experiencing the greatest moment of my life witnessing the cinematic masterpiece called Blue Beatle!
@stavrosanenoglou1274 I just got back from seeing it. Wtf are you talking about the movie was awful lol. The humor was hard to even watch/listen to the family was super annoying except for George Lopez, and the villain was a complete eye roll. This movie is going to bomb
@@EmptyWendyBag I could understand that point of view. We both arent hispanic maybe. All i wanted was to respect the lore and thats what I got. The Scarab and Reach is just as important as the Lantern Corps.
The problem I have these days is that whenever people review things the focus is on CGI, fight scenes but what about the story and the characters. Hollywood quality is declining because they are just regurgitating the same stories with different packaging. I am going to see this and hoping for the best.
Jonathan focused on that because he clearly did not enjoy other parts of the movie. I saw the movie too and his focus just told me we don't have the same tastes because I loved some of the characters and family dynamics.
They got the Mexican side of everything on point. If you’re Chicano or Mexican there’s a whole layer of enjoyment for example that second post credit scene is my favorite of all time. If you’re not Mexican most jokes will probably not hit and the movie pretty much ends up feeling like it was written by AI.
Agree if you Latino in general this movie is a great representation the whole jokes during the movie was great all Mexican jokes that we heard growing up
Yes. That’s exactly what I told my friend after we finished watching. There are so many inside Jokes that only Latinos/Mexicans would understand and honestly it makes the film better. Without the representation the movie would be mid.
@@lilaaloo9000 you didn’t understand what I meant. To clarify, the Mexican culture stuff of the movie feels like it was written by Mexican for Mexicans but the superhero stuff felt generic.
The humor is highly rooted in Latino culture, so it's not surprising that it didn't resonate or hit you in the same way. It was such a heart-felt, warm, and hilarious film for me as a Mexican myself. All of the family dynamics really hit home for me. I knew what I was getting into. It's a superhero movie. I suspend my disbelief from the fact that.. it's a superhero movie. That said, I'm glad you folks liked it! It's definitely geared more for a more specific audience.
Jaime knowing how to fight Is actually explained easily in that the knowledge of the scarab including combat knowledge is shared between the scarab and the host since they became symbiotic.
It was supposed to go straight to streaming so the fact that the new leadership came in and thought it was good enough for a theatrical release should be a good sign.
This is definitely a movie of two halves, and that goes for the tone as well. Really hope DC is able to keep up and improve on movies of this quality or better with the lower budget
Yeah, there are a lot of jokes that would completely fly over non old school latinos. You could tell where La Raza was in my theater when they mentioned Maria La Del Barrio. And being in New York, it was a lot of us. Got us laughing out loud every time.
@@Sawyer1982OACbut is it really lame and corny? Like George Lopez’s stand up? Like it just panders to a Mexican audience. That’s not a good recipe for success.
I just saw the movie the most everyone in my theater didn’t get any of the humor or references and they were not feeling it. I get that the jokes are for the Latino culture but everyone is might have a hard time with this
@@EmptyWendyBag well that sucks for them. I’m just black and I got it. Like when grandma put the Vicks by his nose. Everyone chuckled lol. Little subtle things like that I loved. Idk.. if people just ain’t cultured then that’s on them lol. Wonderful movie. First half feels like it was for HBO MAX for sure, then the second half feels like a real movie lol
Just hope he likes more movies he was clearly not enthused after seeing this great movie. If one of his main positives was the score was good... oof. So, what did you think of your blind dates looks? Answer: she has a great personality. Oof. .
I absolutely loved this movie. DC movie of the year for me; way better than the Flash, and I enjoyed it more than Shazam 2. I cried a few times, the standouts were Xolo, George and Bruna, and looked awesome in IMAX. Being Hispanic, the themes of family and the Latin representation were just great.
Maybe I'm a DC lover but I loved it but I also loved the flash, Shazam 2, black Adam EVEN WW1984 . From Nolan to Snyder to patty, Safran, Gunn, and whoever made BB. Quality wize I've been pleased with DC. Yes could've been better with cameos they've removed from films but overall I'm pleased
I’m this way with Marvel’s stuff. Love it all. I strongly love DC so I always want it at its best, but I won’t argue that they know how to make entertaining films.
@@InjusticeJosh before the covid pandemic marvel had it on lock but from 2020 on I'll say DC been making better content. I also watch both but marvel is loosing me
@@lawrencedugar6167 I guess I love it because I’m not a big Marvel guy. I just think they’re making better superhero content than DC and I love their inter connectivity and world building, something I’m excited for again for the DC film reboot with James Gunn.
@@InjusticeJosh everything Thanos and before is legendary but post Thanos I haven't been a fan of much. I liked wandavision , DR strange, guardians3 .that's about it post Thanos. Marvel took its fanbase for granted knowing you guys will support films regardless of quality
@@lawrencedugar6167 “Quality” is subjective. Just like how you love all the “unpopular” projects like WW84, people like us can love the recent Marvel projects and regard it as high quality, which I do.
It has a mid credits and post credits scene. I was a bit surprised at how good this film turned out to be. Wasn't fantastic but is a good time at the theater.
Xolo, George Lopez, and his father were great, but the rest of the fam was so bad. Y'all giving this too much praise, as a Hispanic viewer it wasnt anything special, it was just alright, not bad, not good
I really enjoyed it. Loved George López and Xolo is beyond charming and also 🔥🔥🔥😁😁😁 The second part when the action kicks in was the best. And needless to say all the Latino references which I grew up with really worked for me. The cherry in the Icecream...the last song from Soda Stereo "Nada personal"!❤❤❤👏👏👏
As a mexican I loved this movie, it was better than I expected. The family, the way they speak, and the nods they make do feel authentic. I related to this movie quite a bit
I really enjoyed it. Just got out from seeing it last night. It does get silly but I couldn’t help enjoying those parts too. Because you’re so invested in the family and Jaime, it works for how fun the movie is. I thought the humour worked so much more than many other blockbusters, subtle and obvious jokes. Was really surprised and disappointed we probably won’t see a sequel with that cast.
Filipinos are basically the Latinos of the Asian world anyway. (source: my gf and colleagues are Filipino) Also, I know Jonathan has a family (which I admire, at least someone’s still having kids lol. Lord knows my 34yr ol asss still hasn’t 😂), but it’d be nice seeing him do more out of theater reactions with u guys. Voyko’s (Voytko?) got a good head on his shoulders.
the humour really worked for spanish speaking audience, the subtitles kept everything PG while they were dropping F bombs left right and center ...in spanish
Dc has been having a lot of problems lately with getting their foot off the ground and today is the day that finally they’ve come to their senses with blue beetle a stand alone old school origin story
I just watched it today and it was amazing. I think a lot of people hated it because if your not Mexican American a lot of the banter and humor gets lost. Maybe they can be happy we finally got to see US represented as superhero’s on the big screen? Our culture our families our humor?
Here's the deal: this movie is just okay. It's just good enough to get a sequel. Hopefully, James Gunn can write something better for Blue Beetle in the future. Even with the wonky CGI, The Flash is a better movie. This movie has its moments but that's about it. The lead actor is a likable guy and should fit in nicely into the DCU. I hope this movie does well enough at the box office so we can see more of the character in a lead role. The family aspect/Latino representation kept this movie from being super generic. I'll watch it again when comes to streaming.
Just saw the movie and thanks for the tip on the end credits scene it’s soon not too much of a wait. Just want to say how great I thought the movie was, we saw it in (other than us) a literally empty theater we need to get the word out. This is good.
Really I did like the first half getting to know Jamie and his family, by the trailer I thought he would be in company position but he was way more an average kid. His family was sterotypical but I love that becuse I am part of that streotype with Brasilian family so I regonize the uncle and the grandma. Sure I agree a lot of jokes thrown and missed but overall good movie with decent action, they did´t try to go too big, it was enough and the designs were clear and simple enough, like this did´t feelt like a Batman v Superman type of effects, I think the quallity of this CGI was also at right level not the best but servisable and not overreliant like I was thinking towards the final fight how most were CGI but maybe, maybe it was using actors as reference there so it did´t feel like overrused CGI for it. I like the scarab and Jamies building relation, intresting if they may continue this and explore all of this.
I would’ve gone and seen this movie opening weekend but i can’t … coz it releases on SEPTEMBER 14TH !!! Here in New Zealand. Not just that we still haven’t gotten TMNT mutant mayhem in cinemas here yet and they bot come out the same day!!! So TMNT goes on streaming a full week before it’s release here. It’s been so long since NZ has had delays like this for big movies. Guess I know where I’m watching it…
🚨🚨 I just watched Blue Beetle: Ok, this movie has a few movie tropes; but, it is a good movie. I will rewatch. I give it an 8 out of 10. It has a good story. It has emotion beats. It has a great score. The VFX is a 8 out 10. It has a fantastic family dynamics. It is worth watching
This is exactly my feelings on the movie. It was definitely corny & even cheesey, but at the same time heartwarming. You definitely feel something by the end & may shed tears. Not the greatest Superhero movie, but it's Not a bad watch.
Was awful!!! Stereotypical comedy. Xolo was the only good thing about it. He carried the movie. I wanted to walk out. Generic. No one was laughing in my cinema. Looked like a tv show cheap and nasty effects. Felt way longer than two hours. Sorry just my opinion
If your Hispanic, there is a lot of jokes that other people won’t get. That’s why when they say the humor lacks, the film was actually trying to capture the true Latino culture.
SPOILER ALERT.... Lots of funny quotes to me I laughed at a few... "No more Blind Dates" was the best to me. 😂 see if u catch it. Many will miss it so I have to mention it.
This movie was a huge surprise for me. I mean, the trailers didn’t work for me but the movie did 😮 Things I appreciated: the Chapulín Colorado and María la del Barrio jokes/references and that very diverse soundtrack: from Vicente Fernández to Cypress Hill. Note: I am afraid most people won’t get the Adelita reference (nana’s shooting the weapon) since it has to do with the Mexican Revolution.
