BD rehearsals are a study of trust in the process. Always fascinating to watch. I just wish the staff feedback had been left in but otherwise this is a great production.
Love seeing the rehearsals with the metronome and going section by section - most people only see the finished show but this is where all the hard work happens.
I hate on the Blue Devils every year but at the end of the day I hate them because of how amazing they are. Every year I always am always blown away by their visual proficiency and how consistent their ensemble sound is. Every season they only get better and better especially with how many young people were in 2022 I wouldn’t be surprised if we got past a 3 peat these next few years as they have more vets coming back.
Once you start looking at this activity less from a “who wins, who loses” angle, and more from a “look at how sick everyone is now” angle, I promise you’ll love it a lot more. At the end of the day, nobody remembers scores; they remember the show that they liked the most. And that’s what this activity should be about.
I was so lucky to be able to go to this rehearsal. It was my first time ever seeing anything DCI related in person (5:13 totally not my little brother walking across the screen lmao)
Not to be THAT person but the diagonals at in the closer just give me an ICK. The last run though was as neat and close as possible to perfection I've seen yet this rehearsal. Especially when end of season in the bigger stadium for semis and finals. If they can perfect those Diagonal lines starting from whence they begin jazz running to that formation before the last drill stand... would be *chefs kiss* with the ending visuals/ spacing from the judge panel box.
Who is writing and designing these shows? This entire opening piece is pure crap. We go from stupid lyrics, to a jam session between drum set and guitar to end up in a quad solo from no where? Then the high school band instruments come in ... completely out of context ... then there's no build musically. It is boring. We're playing loud please applaud. Then we end up with a snare solo from nowhere. Why? Why ? I stopped watching.
this might be the worst hate comment i've ever read for several reasons. The "stupid lyrics" are from Proverb by Steve Reich (1995) which was a musical experiment in "speech melody", similar to Matisse's artistic experiments with whom the title ,"The Cut-outs" shares an identity with. The "jam session" is an introduction to the show to set pace and display achievement from the battery. The "high school band instruments" scored a 19.8 (2nd) on finals night, and are playing a piece called Caves by Cody Fry. What isn't impressive about the constant tempo changes throughout this opener? All of these elements come from zero context because they are musical cutouts, i. e. a representation of the show's theme as they appear in the context of the Blue Devils' production. I don't know much about further nuance but I at least understand the concept of content versus achievement and how the display of those two things results in a 98.975.
@@JohnSmith-zi9or Rocky Point Holiday is cool because it's Rocky Point Holiday, and I understand that. You are completely allowed to enjoy Malaguena as well, as long as you realize it is nothing more than precisely that. The way the activity has evolved has allowed corps to take much more creative leaps than before, and that should be a good thing. Just because you choose not to understand it doesn't mean you should be a grouchy asshole about it, and it's nobody else's responsbility to cater to you.
Is no one going to mention the alternating beat level, simple meter divided beat, and borrowed divided compound meter marching going on at the same time right after the first big hit?!? A thing of SUCH beauty! 🥹
