This doesn’t get talked about nearly enough but... can we all just sit back and enjoy how beautiful the transition into and out of the drum solo is. Soo good. Bravo Wayne and Tom.
I remember joining BDB when I was 15. That summer I heard BDA for the first time up close, at Mars. Sitting on the patchy grass in the horn circle my life was CHANGED. The shear power rattled my DNA, rearranged it - I would always be a Blue Devil. I'd give up experiences many 16 - 21 yr olds had in exchange for melting people's faces in the lot. The thrill of performance. The roller coaster emotions of winning and losing and all that went into it. 10 to 10's. Sleeping on hardwood floors. Cold showers. I Marched 3 years with BDA aging out a lead Soprano. Awesome segment of my life. Love these videos/audio that bring back such great emotions.
I miss THESE Blue Devils... The Blue Devils of the eighties and nineties had such a unique sound to their hornlines. You could hear them play a C Major chord blindfolded and KNOW that it was the Blue Devils you were hearing! Also, they played whole songs and not just snippets and the hornline was more than just a support act for the colorguard and battery!
yep and only got worce over the years now late 80 and 90 was i think the golden age of drum corp i marched in the late 60 to the mid 70 was good and the 70 80 was good too but not like the 90s. but you know when they started to let people become judges that never marched in the 2000 that is when it went band.
The first year I marched drum corps, I was amazed saw these guys 1988 and it was phenomenal, but 1988 scouts killed it; such a toss up between devils and scouts, probly political
Funny thing, those Meehaphones had “MFL” stamped on the sides of their bells. When Zig Kanstul (creator of the Meehaphone) got asked what it stood for, he said it stood for “MotherF*ckin Loud!” It definitely shows in this recording.
