This came out of nowhere. The action, art, acting all are incredibly amazing. Season 2 is a must.

Absolutely awesome especially episode 5 or 6 where they had that fight where they had the camera non-stop continuously trained on Mizu was gorgeous I really hope they pick it up for a second season and see where this leads

It was an excellent show, well done by all involved. Mizu is not a character I rooted for, don't get it wrong, I like her very much. I sat back and watched in awe as she did her thing like a hurricane or a tornado. And now with her going to london she see that the world is a lot bigger than just japan.

This was a top Quality series. I am super excited for season 2. I don' t blame Mizu for having such a heart. Life has been unfair to her so she is a product of her environment. I wouldn't say her heart has hate, as she was hated for being a mixed breed. Very similar to racism in America. Overall the series was perfect.

I watched episode 1 on RU-vid and it was off to the races.....watched the entire series and can't wait for season 2.

I hope we learn where Mizu learned to fight. At the beginning of her quest she cannot defeat two peasants with a kitchen knife. But somehow later she can defeat swordsmen and assassins

Mizu's mother had to be someone of a higher status, since a maid was paid to keep her safe and hidden.Also, her mother could still be alive. Alternatively, a possible plot twist could be that one of the 4 white men could, in fact, be a woman- Mizu's mother. I can't wait for season 2, they have to renew it

I like how the mentor said that there are "the soul has two chairs - one for good and one for evil" he leaves an ominous warning that "IF you are not whole the demon will take both" basically means that all your choices reflect on what kind of person you will be or become. Actions have consequences which is tattooed on your soul - though even if you tried to make amends there's still a lingering hold of what you've done exists and you either live with it and accept it or justify it and remain in this never-ending cycle of grief where it consumes you so much that your body, mind, and soul become gravity weighing tenfold. Heroes, Villains, Anti-heroes, Renegades, Vigilantes all forget they are human beings too that they too have the power to either rise and fall in or from their respective roles in society - it's a double-edged sword.

Please do a video on BES, covering the origins of the asteroid Mizu used to forge her sword. Im surprised no one’s talking about it. The fact that, Swordfather discovers that the asteroid produces a different sound whenever he hits it three times and that its one of the strongest metals he’s ever come across, just makes its origins as mysterious as Mizu’s.

Need a season 2. London is wild.

Anime is like music, it's an art form that has people with good and bad taste. Frankly, I want to see more anime like this show instead of mainstream-generic shounen trash that gives anime a bad name. Thank you Think Story for bringing attention to a hidden gem.

I think it would be the perfect drama that when she finally kills her father in a fit of rage. That he would confess to her that he truly loved her mother, and that she is "perfect" in her own right. 🥺 like a Silco and Jinx moment...

What does everyone think of the scenes of Mizu “cleansing” herself and destroying her blade? What do they symbolize for her character. At first I thought she would start over and turn away from revenge, but the finale confirms that’s still her intention. So, what do those scenes actually mean for Mizu’s development?

I think netflix has done well with anime recently. First there was Pluto whoch i liked alpt. Onimusha was good too but i wasnt thrilled about the ending, but still good. But damn BES really did come out of nowhere and what a bloody brutal masterpiece it is! For sire the best of the three.

What I want to know is why is Mizu going to London alone when her whole arc was about accepting herself and the help of others? Why didn't she bring Ringo with her to complete that arc?

Only thing that bothers me are some fight scenes. Especially the last fight. There were multiple instances when Fowler coulda kill Mizu, like why did he run away when both Mizu and Taigen were down on the floor after the standoff. He coulda kill em both, I dunno this kinda stuff really kills the magic for me.

Wait so that entire episode of he being married was actually something that happened? I thought it was some kind of alternative story line not something that actually happened.

One gripe that stands out, and I understand if this is my "well aktually historian hat" coming out, but shouldn't the Shogunate have guns too? This is the Edo period, and there would have been remnants of western guns from the Sengoku period as well as Japanese Gun smiths. While rare, surely the Elite Shogun Samurai would have them. It just seems odd considering the amount of historically research they put into other aspects such as properly depicting kimonos and walking etc. I think for some this is why the final confrontation between Fowler and Mizu is a bit odd and anti-climactic the way it pans out.

This...show...is...AWESOME!!! I was hooked from the very 1st episode. The fight scenes in this show is gripping and as Ringo says Mizu doesn't know how to die i swear 😒 🤣 I figured Taigen would eventually end up with Mizu since he is actually a very loyal samurai and even tho Mizu doesn't consider herslf to be anything but a demon we can already see her begin to transition into one rather than just a ronin out for revenge and who better to show her the ways of a true samurai than Taigen & also Ringo. Apart from Mizu i think Ringo is one of my fav characters in the show. I honestly cant wait for season 2 just to see what happens in London (can't believe she just hopped on a boat to London). This series reminds me of Avatar and how Aang and the gang gradually grew into the heroes they eventually became and of everyone else am very much interested in seeing what Ringo becomes great at. This is another bandger from Netflix and am here for it!!

My idea for a potential plot twist. Maybe after she kills all of her potential fathers she realizes it was never her father who was the Westener, but her mother.

To my surprise Akemi actually ended up my favorite by the end of it all, she’s easily the smartest character in this show 😭🙌 the way she constantly talked her way through all the men in this show was SO WELL WRITTEN, if Mizu taught her how to throw hands she’d be unstoppable 🤣

So glad that you covered this! I honestly love the dynamic between Mizu and Taigen. I think they mirror each other in a fire and ice sense. They complement each other. Where one is lacking the other makes up for it and vice versa. They both even have goals/aspirations that they take too far (revenge vs honor). I really hope season two builds upon this and includes more interactions between the two. I feel as though it might be the case that they make each other better people. Taigen becomes more down to earth and Mizu learns that love can be a strength not a weakness. It could build up to her learning to love and be loved by others (although it may be a long road to reach that conclusion).

Her husband was such a crazy twist. My heart hurt for her so bad seeing her actually be happy. And of course.. That didn't last.

Thank god you're talking about it, I want this show to get more seasons and can't STAND it not being talked about. I know it's very new, but GOD IT'S SO GOOD!

Saw this series 2 days ago and was blown away by the animation, fight sequences, voice acting, storytelling, and overall production quality. Def up there with Invincible and Arcane as my faves. I still can't decide if I love that ending tho, but I can understand the narrative direction the showrunners took.

I loved this show so much! Mizu's character is such a refreshing female bad ass. She's not your typical annoying girl who's so full of herself. I love her deep confidence and the simplicity of how she dresses. Mizu feels like the female spirit striped of all embellishments and raw emotion and drive has consumed her.

The two archetypal portrayals of feminine strength from Akemi and Mizu are so beautiful to see unfolding. Not that you always agree with exactly how Mizu uses her strength, but she is undoubtedly powerful as hell, more so than all these men (except maybe the spiritual strength of her Sword master). It conveys how women can be strong in sexual feminine ways, or by embodying their more masculine energies. Sometimes these warrior-female shows dont do justice to the power of the soft feminine strength, too. I love that Akemi fought as a prostitute and through her sensuality and softness. And then Mizu fought with her masculine qualities. They are like a yin yang of each other, and though not always in agreement, sort of needed each other. Mizu's character is also such a butch hottie. Ngl when I first saw ep 1 that was def a bonus😛

Am I the only one seeing how much taigen reminds me of Zuko. Not only the voice but also his personality and goals in life.

They better get a season 2

This show is astonishing. Will become a classic. The only misstep in self-assured storytelling is the decision to end with Mizou heading to London with her mortal enemy. Not killing Fowler went against Mizou's core motivator that "revenge does not wait". It takes her away from her "found family" in Ringo, Teagin and Akemei, characters we are already invested in. I was viscerally disappointed that we didn't get a payoff on Mizou's revenge arc or a satisfying conclusion by seeing her go back to Swordfather for her new sword, the sword she earned. It might be somewhat interesting for S2 setting in London convulsed in the English Revolution, but the third character of this series is 17th c Japan, the culture, the topography, the music. It's not a given that we'll get a S2, given the series' slow start. Just puzzling. Still, this is one of the best new series--it's right up there with Arcane.

I think there will be a twist that Mizu’s biological mother is the European and her father was an important Japanese noble- maybe even the shogun.

As a special needs mom to 2 young bi-racial children (autism & down syndrome) this series really inspired me. They depicted individuals with disabilities, especially Ringo, in such a respectful and positive way. I hope that they continue this in a second season. For me personally, the weight of my 3rd year in law school has recently been weighing me down and this series really lifted me up emotionally. It's inspired me to continue striving "to be great" at wielding the law in service to others.

fowler is also a master manipulator... keeping himself alive by saying those things to mizu... i hope mizu at least cut off one of his arms or something...

So when you say ENDING EXPLAINED, all you decides to do was to recap the season and throw in few “perhaps” and “maybe” before you ask everyone what they think. So misleading.

I really enjoyed the series and I really hope that a second season will be announced. So much potential and ideas. I wonder what happened to Taigen? Maybe, as you suggested, he went after Mizu? They had good chemistry and tension, it would be a pity if we dont see any development furthermore. Akemi is awesome at the end, can't wait to see her becoming great!

2:29 This is one thing that mildly irked me from a historical perspective. The Japanese DID have firearms, even during this time period. They would've been a few decades old by this point, but arquebus style tanegashima would have been something the Japanese would have known about and possessed for years. And gunsmiths and gun storehouses would have still dotted the country even at this point. Now to be fair, at the very, very, very beginning of the show they clarify that its western imported firearms that are outlawed, but then at the finale they act as if the western guns are some magical game changer that the shogun soldiers were awed by and had no tactics to fight against, even though entire field manuals from the warring states period were written on how to both use and fight against firearms of this type.

I loved the first season. A little sad she is leaving japan. I will miss all the great characters there.

It’s one of the greatest shows ever. The animation, the cinematography, the script and the storyline, the uniqueness. 10/10 for me. It will be one of those shows that you will be rewatching later in life.

Fowler's got some mad cunning manipulation skills - he talks Rizu into helping him. Helping him get safely out of Japan (and on the road back to London). I imagine leaving Japan would have been more dangerous and deadly for him with her help. It's the everyday people who would be most likely to try to kill him or not help him.

Absulutely loved this show, evrything fits perfectly and i am totally hyped for season two. Again i ask myself, how does Netflix do this trick, bringing out a series of such quality right out of nowhere ? mentioning Mizus list (her tattoo) and the fact that she now has names and the last scene reminded me of Aria Stark in Game of Thrones, where she is on a ship too, sailing to a new horizon

Amazing series, honestly. Episode 5 is a masterpiece. Also, how could you miss the opportunity to show Mizu's dads when you said "daddy loves you very much"?

i can see why this show was stated to be 4 seasons long... first season is all character intro... 2nd season is about miz in london... she prob wont get to those mentioned other two white guys until the end of the season.. 3rd season could see her back in japn... we will also be able to see how akemi deals w being someone in charge and using her father etc

I think it is a great show in 2023 to me. I feel like I watch live action and animation together. The cutscenes, the characters and many things in this animation remind me of dreams, painful memories, nightmares and hope. Not to mention that many people call Mizu demon but that doesn’t make a few people that remen in her life called her that but cheers her, protect her and heal her. I hope season 2 I will see more of her heart open up to those people. I just really really love this show that I could cry!

absolutely gorgeous show with a great plot and good twists. I was going into it thinking "oh fuck, not another CGI anime" but boy was I wrong

Good story, compelling as well as gorgeous. Overloaded with seemingly (i'm no expert) historical details on 17th century Japan, city life as well as the natural surroundings, there is so much to enjoy. Of course, the action is brutal, but bears also mythological features: the tribulations of Mizu, the main character, are more than any human could possibly endure. Her skills are more than legendary. Of course you know she never dies: that would have meant end of story, you know this, but the beautiful film-like rendering and the psychology of the characters makes it believable. The plot is extremely simple, of course, but the many side stories of the epic journey of this character, make the series rather human and very, very enjoyable. In some way, this reminds me of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Even the antagonist Fowler character gets some human profile, as he tells us in the last episode what he had to endure as a child in Ireland in those days. It explains some of the evil he shows as a character. Dialogues are mostly intelligent and give profile to the cast of characters. There are no flat characters in this series, and, judging by how many there are, i think this is a huge accomplishment. I binged it in two evenings, was ablazed at the ending, and look already forward to the next series.

Great show. My only complaint is that, in the last episode, Mizu did not pick up a sword when going after a very formidable Fowler. Which seemed really unrealistic, and almost got her killed a couple of times.

I’ve been spoiled 😂😂 cant believe I got to watch Onimusha, Blue Eye Samurai and Invincible all in the same week. Incredible shows 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 10/10

Honestly, every main character was great. The last two episodes took it from a 7 to a 9 for me. I can’t wait to see what happens.

The writing and cast, let alone the artwork is purely phenomenal. There is so much talent to be seen I felt like I had to pause this at times just to appreciate the artwork and admire the talent of those that made it.

I respect your take on who turned her in, but after watching several times I really believe it was Mikio. Her ‘mother’ had been without opium for months by the time she was turned in, but Mizu had just FRESHLY humiliated her husband in the one thing he thought he was still great at. He also got rid of her horse. Mizu also rubbed salt in the wound with her comment to him “did you lose your backbone when you lost your title?” But for me it’s when he sees her surrounded by the guards. On his land. Hunting his wife. Watch his face, he isn’t shocked or curious. He’s remorseful. And then he comes back most likely not expecting her to be alive, and has to pin the blame on someone. And when the mother says otherwise? He kills her. Very guilty to me, especially when the woman was selling herself to feed her addiction for a long time before Mizu it makes sense she could easily pick it up again without turning her in. She would also lose her nice house in the woods so what does she gain from the bounty besides TEMPORARY comfort? Let alone not turning Mizu in all those years while she was STILL addicted when Mizu was a child. Whereas Mikio, imo upon giving the lord the perfect creature he is STILL hopeful to do something to get his station back. If anyone noticed anything else please share! It’s a great little mystery to the show that I’m sure will never be settled in canon 😅

Let’s not blame Mizu, our heroine for the deaths of 100,000. The fire was during the day. Clear day with visibility seen by those far away. The episode did not say how many dead. Fowler could not have known the figure. After the fire, the dowager says property can be rebuilt. She did not mention the deaths. So, don’t blame Mizu for killing so many. Narrator. Bad narrator.

And if there will be a second season o hope i will see Oliver Cromwell

I kinda wanna know how she killed her first target of revenge that was violet and the journey that took her to him.

In ending Taigen the only charcater whose path is unclear. He wanted to run with akemi but she denied. Akemi will now somewhat rule through shogun. He will probably consider mizu dead. Will in 2nd season there will be character development of Taigen? In season 1 there is negligible character development in Taigen. I don't know what would happen with his character in 2nd season.

I just randomly decided to put it on for background noise and it was captivating. I actually stopped doing what I was doing and was hooked immediately. I’m really hoping there is a season 2 and more to come!
