Wow. I grew up in Calumet Park during the 1970's and 1980's. When you hit the intersection of 127th and Western it blew my mind. I spent a LOT of time in that Beggars and that White Castle. I wish I could have seen the bridge on 127th that connects Blue Island to Cal Park. I walked over that thing probably 300 times.
@@gustavogomez7331 i like that areas are easy to get to if you just use your legs, i dont like that everywhere is in town and you have to walk past alot of streets and people
I remember being 10 and finding my way up to the rooftop at Saint Francis (the old brown brick building that used to be on the left side, that they demolished in the 80s) when my dad worked there.
moved from Mexico to Blue Island when I was 5 back in the early 2000s. Lived in a small apartment with my family for almost 15 years. We almost moved to Harvey since that was/is where my dad works and my parents wanted to buy a house, but changed his mind when his co-workers told him more about Harvey lol. Blue Island might not be any great place, but compared to places like Harvey, it is definitely the better of the suburbs around to live in. My dad said living in a small apartment in Blue Island was better than living in a house in Harvey. Moved in 2019 for work and helped my parents move to Oak Forest. Wonder how Blue Island is doing currently
not too much has changed honestly, I've been here since the 7th grade and I'm 35 now. one thing that remains the same is the shitty side streets and bridges constantly under construction. Can't forget its train city 🙄. crime hasn't been bad although I did have my car stolen in 2020. it's nothing like Harvey whatsoever
I'm glad it is flat… especially in the winter. And the grid system makes everything easy to find. I don't understand cities that have wacky crazy roads that run every which way.
@@africkinamerican I know. My point is that when you live there you probably aren't stepping out onto La Salle street or Rush Street or some leafy walk to the L in Wicker or Lincoln Park. I lived there for 5 years and there was lots of Cottage Grove and North and Damen avenue bus rides. That was 20 years ago and I am sure its completely different.
side streets are STILL horrendous. all they do is use the "throw and go" method to very temporarily fix them. there are some beautiful homes in blue Island plagued by potholes and shitty streets
ill always feel connected to this place. lived here for a few years and i always thought it was sweet and typical. the area by memorial park is the cutest
When I was a kid in the late fifties, my mother would take my brother and me to Raceway Park to watch my dad race. Boy those were some great times. I still have his safe driver's pins from 1956, 1957, and 1958. Miss you dad!
Whatch you speed on Gregory and Western 25 mph max - I am a short time resident here since 1989 - actually in live in portion of BI know as Portland east of 8-pass Railroad tracks and western on Broadway.
Love this place still. Preschool was there (Church of the Nazarene, by the fire hydrant at 1:36), aunt and uncle lived there, both dad and aunt worked at the hospital. A couple doors down from my uncle and aunt in Cali Gardens, were the Broadus family. Some summers their nephew or grandkid used to stay with them, and would hang out with my cousin sometimes...named Calvin, now known as Snoop Dogg
Why are so many of these type of videos recorded in winter? Is it to make the towns and areas look even bleaker than they already are? Or is it out of boredom because there's nothing better to do than drive around and make videos? Not only that, but there's no planning here. Major parts of town aren't visited.
