I live in Tokyo. Once in a rush I forgot to lock my bike (a custom made ti bike) when parking it in a bike parking area and dashing to my office to pick up my suitcase for a 2-week trip abroad. The bike was still there when I returned to Tokyo. I can only recall a couple of references in 20+ years of anyone here saying they had a bike stolen. A lot of people here with high end road bikes do the helmet lock (strap helmet through wheel) when going into a convenience store during a ride. I wouldn’t rely on that anywhere else on the planet.
I live in the UK and the bike shops are pathetic hardly any accessories to choose from. would love to be able to walk around a great shop like this and buy a lot of goodies for my folding E-bike in my dreams....😂
I actually discovered them through instagram (it was recommended to me) and I instantly followed, their builds are really crazy and the team seem like a cool bunch. What a coincidence that you actually went there and visited. Looked really fun :)
What an amazing bike store! It's almost overwhelming how much stuff they packed into that space! I would be there for hours, wanting to look at every single thing! The custom bags and reflectors that they make look fantastic too. Thanks for going there. 👍😁
Only in Japan can bikes be left outside the shop without locks or any other places for that matter! If I left my Brompton outside a police station in London it'll be gone in sixty seconds!
Yes my dude! To be honest, its a bit of a dream to go to this shop. They make so many cool things. And have so much hard to find stuff. Really impressed by their stock of Swift Industries (a small boutique US brand) bags as it took months for me to be able to get my Swift Zeitgeist. The bronze bike that caught your attention at 8:50 is an All-City Gorilla Monsoon. Is like a bikepacking/monster cross bike. Actually the frame at 16:10 with the maroon and black that you liked is the same but one of the 2022 colors. The bikes outside at 3:10 are from Rivendell. Rivendell Atlantis is possibly the prettiest bike ever made. Everyone has their style and this place has the types I could geek out all day over.
That's one of the best bike shops I've seen. The selection of top quality stuff. Like Da Brimm for a helmet. Rivendale bikes Grant Peterson was the importer of Bridgestone bikes. Inventor of Grip King pedals. All top quality products. It's even better than Mellow Johnnie's in Austin. Almost like visiting the North American handmade bike show. Sad no recumbents.... ;-)
What a treasure trove of everything you might need for your cycling life ! Love the idea of customising your bike to achieve a more colourful, artistic and technically improved result, away from the standard factory production line constraints. The only thing I did not seem to see is many softer, comfy saddles, which are very common here in England.
I love the creativity of that bike shop. One of my bikes is a surly long haul trucker and I got some nice inspiration. I put a photo of my bike on Instagram and I had so many Japanese people like it Surly must be popular. Especially modified.
Legend said that usps box is the one that Lance Armstrong and his team mate use to storage their blood. Really nice bike shop fits for steel is real people.
What a beautiful bike shop Its like my dream workshop Thx for taking a time for making this video been a while since I watched a shop tour video i believe it was with you're friend she wanted to buy a bike Well stay safe and have a wonderful day guys
Thanks for touring Blue Lug Bike Shop Cruise! I am in the U.S. and Blue Lug is pretty well known here as well. Especially in the fixed gear bike scene Pretty cool store!!
It’ll be great to see a tandem bike video. If possible a foldable kind. My wife doesn’t know how to cycle and she always misses out on fun cycling trips. Would love to see some reviews/choices of a sort. 😊
I'm from the uk and bike cycles hear in the uk are naff. Unless you won't to spend thousands on the latest bike they don't won to no. Never have much stock and so expensive. They buy from ebay and treble plus on mark up.
Couldn't let this one go by without a shout-out to Team Surly. Looks like you had a lot of fun here. If I ever get (back) to Japan, I'll definitely have to check this out. Best wishes for your new adventures!
bike mechanic from germany here, just came back from 3 weeks in japan, I went through around 30 bike shops in osaka kyoto and tokyo, blue lug was fine. lots of stock, but nothing really outstanding. What they DEFINITELY need to stop doing is printing their "We Be Ridin" stickers that have a rather racist african motif :\
The Blue Lug is such an enjoyable bike shop to search through. If you were not mindful you’d spend a grand purchasing knickknacks without even realizing it . And that is before even purchasing the main bike components you may have had in kind. I love shops like that as you come across so much stuff you never knew existed, and it makes the ordinary something you seriously want to purchase, and that is when your analyzation skills have to be brought forth. 😆
If those bikes were parked liked that in NYC unsecured they would BE GONE in 10 minutes. Ya think I'm joking, right?! This is why I'm MOVING OUT. It's the CITY OF THIEVES.
A completely bizarre but awesome bike shop. Such a great example of why bike shops are so fun to explore and make videos of. And I really want to see that Brompton with the swept back bars fold down and see what happens. Even if it doesn’t fold down properly, it would be interesting to see how it rides with wider bars.
Interesting bike shop that’s obviously very popular considering they have their own branded products. I wonder if they have a liquor license, since they have a bottle of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey. 😂 It must have been a real challenge laying out so much gear in a small store. Interesting video. I hope you do similar bike shop videos in Thailand and other countries you journey to.
Bike pack bike is made stream line for off road and soft trail ,tour bike is built heavy duty for 5000 miles tours and made for road and soft trail, use panniers, each tool for the job at hand
Very neat and quirky little bike shop! It certainly stands on its own in terms of character and uniqueness, and they make great use of every single square foot of space available.
The light blue bike at 8:40 made me want to paint mine. I'm in love with the simplicity of that one. We don't really have nice shops like that here in Brazil, so actually, more than only have a blue bike, I want to open a shop like this one hahahaha ^^ Great video :)
Blue Lug is awesome. There are three shops in Tokyo, all on the west side. I feel lucky in that my house may be almost exactly in the center of the triangle you could draw on a map connecting the three shops. Wonderful selection of bikes and accessories, no pretension, and very helpful staff. I’ve had two bikes overhauled there - they did a great job. I’ve visited bike stores in many countries. I’ve yet to encounter anything close to how wonderful Blue Lug is.
Wonderful tour of the Blue Lug. I travel to many places in the U.S. and make it a point to visit local bike shops. I have seen all of your bicycle shop tours on the channel. Please share any more that may be in the new neighborhood. Thanks! John
