Bill Monroe, the Father of Blue Grass Music, wrote this, and the first version he recorded was a slow 3/4 waltz. After Elvis did his version Bill recorded it again keeping the 3/4 version for the first half, and transitioning to an up tempo 4/4 version (like Elvis) for the second half. Monroe was known to say that he got some "powerful" royalty checks from Elvis' version, and that he was happy he could help give Elvis a boost to his career.
