Blue Moon. Written by the great songwriting duo of Richard Rodgers (c) and Lorenz Hart (l) in 1934. A popular song of it's day, Blue Moon has since become a standard as a part of the American songbook. Early recordings include Connee Boswell and Al Bowly in 1935. The song was a hit twice in 1949, with recordings by Billy Eckstine and Mel Tormé.
In 1961, Blue Moon became an international hit, when it was recorded by doo-wop group, The Marcels. It's been covered by so so many artists, including: Frankie Avalon, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Jo Stafford, Billie Holiday, Sam Cooke, The Platters, Elvis Presley, Rod Stewart....and a ton of others! I'm a big fan of Julie London's singing, so I would have to site her sultry, jazzy recording as my favourite version of this tune!
I've been hearing it play in stores lately, so it kinda got under my skin, and I decided to give it a go. I hope you'll enjoy my ukulele version of this American classic!
