OMG. What a time machine, what nostalgia. This is amazing. I watched Blue Peter without fail and would have been 11 years old when this went out turning 12 in the October. John Noakes, Peter Purvis and Valerie Singleton were my favourite set of presenters... Thank you so much for posting this.
One day before I turned four when it first aired on 8-4-1968! Those were unforgettable childhood memories. I remember running home from school to watch Blue Peter my favourite TV program. Best wishes to all.
Love this, this is probably the best line up with John Noakes the best ever presenter and was and still is Mr Blue Peter, the show had definitely stood the test of time and a great download
Lordy this takes me back ! I would’ve been 5 when this was aired. The entire nation of kids would tune in to Blue Peter. To say it was popular is one ginormous understatement. This program was massive - with millions upon millions tuning into every episode. The famous ‘Elephant Scene’ is utterly hilarious. Poachers and big game hunters can never be forgiven for bringing those majestic animals to near extinction. I for one will NEVER take my boot 🥾 off those bastard’s necks ! Hope they all die horribly. The way mankind has always failed in this regard is just abhorrent and sad enough to bring many many tears of sadness, frustration and hopelessness. Something just has to give because a world 🌎 without Elephants and other endangered species - is a world of enormous loss and unmitigated sadness. Please I beg who reads this - do all you possibly can to help protect the one’s who are scarcely left on this planet 🌎 Thanx for your time - really appreciate it. Cheers. Rxx
I was four years old when this first aired, exactly 51 years ago today. I really enjoyed watching Blue Peter, right up until 1979 when I turned fifteen. It was a different age, more innocent and far less complicated than life today. So glad to grow up back then. ☺
1968 I was making a 8mm film with the family of Bromborough, Eastham, Woodside, and grandparents home, and our cottage, I used ilford film my brother used Kodak, still living in the same cottage since 1957.....How things change my brother lives in a 300 year old farm with his family 1000 feet above sea level
I think the best episode was when they made an airgun from a toilet roll cardboard. John Noakes went out and shot sparrows, pigeons, kids and pensioners. Great tv in those days! Oh, and Valerie Singleton always managed to flash her pants for a second or two every week.
Oh man ,I was 12 when this went out. I watched Blue Peter until I was 20 !. John & Peter were great presenters but as I got older my focus was on Lesley Judd not the sticky back plastic things they made. Brilliant program from a brilliant era. 🇬🇧👍👍👍👍
This was broadcast Monday during Easter week in 1968. We were sent home early on the Thursday because it was 90 degrees. By Easter Sunday the town was under snow.
@@alvindimes4729 Actually, the first presenters were Leila Williams and Christopher Trace. Though Valerie Singleton and Christopher Trace were the first presenters I saw.
Great tea time viewing for a 7 year old the re-enactment of the innocent Lady Jane having her head wacked off over a plate of beans on toast ...." whats for pudding mum ? "
Amazing to see Bruce Mclaren, and the day after poor Jim Clark's death too. This was also the first episode after the assassination of Dr King, clearly he wasn't deemed worth a mention.
The scaffold looks too big to be an overhaul of The Monument, there is a big black tower on the embankment there , (I think it is and HSBC offices) which might fit the timeframe of construction
Have looked at Google Maps going back to an aerial image from 1985 - the only existing tall building there was St Helen's Tower, on St Mary Axe/Undershaft - and it was under construction in 1968 - Sorted !! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Helen%27s_(skyscraper)
@@nicholasm5465 that wasnt the one I was thinking of , but it is the right one, I dont remember it being mentioned, presumably it was planned to be a little less in height than the GPO Tower
The public were expected to watch a still photograph for the intro and credits, and much in between. Now edits are measured in fractions of a second, or the viewer gets bored.
John was an Action Man! Impressed kids with his daring as like a ‘kid’ himself and an early adapter of regional accents. Val was the Mother Hen and the early R.P. voice of reason with hats and a nice line in knickers too 😂
