My wife and I did the jp network test that weekend, one of the most fun gaming experiences. I'll always remember the first time we saw that tiny pink pig and how it turned out to be a crazy hard miniboss. The cutscene after the big tower that set up a story I was excited to follow for years to come. Sad to see it all crashing already. Sad for the devs.
@wesleyleigh4063
@wesleyleigh4063 18 дней назад
ok but like was it actually fun? genuinely curious since you played.
@MilkmanYeti
@MilkmanYeti 18 дней назад
@@wesleyleigh4063 I found it pretty fun. First off the story was cool. It made running to the next location exciting because the story nuggets were interesting; and that's even with pointing my phone at the screen to translate. The combat was a little shallow with having just a few skills; but the base system was fun. I used the sword/shield the whole time but the weapon combos were direction based. If you held forward on the control stick you would stab forward, holding left you'd do an aoe spin. I really liked actually dodging attacks. Most MMO you just avoid by stats or skills, but BP rewarded timing. The sword/shield had a fun shield bash and I could full on stop aoes with a well timed shield slap to the face. The progression board was dumb, but I think they fixed that in later updates. Some quests would be kill 20 goblins, you'd do it and then the next mission on a different board was kill 20 more. You couldn't do BOTH; you had to them one at a time. I think that was changed for the full release. The world was super fun to explore. There were small scale events where you'd fight a miniboss with everyone in the map at the time. There were these little bunny guys who were hiding around the map and you'd try to hunt them all. The thing that really was fun was just 'being' in the world. The fact that you could hold hands in the game made my wife take so many pictures. She'd find a big hill and then call me over for photo mode. The world was gorgeous. The music was great. The towns felt 'lived in' with the farmers and such. It obviously needed a lot of work even after the full release. The costume gacha was awful. There wasn't really a true aggro system when I played so even with my taunts on sword/shield it didn't really feel like i did anything. BUT the game felt like it had passion behind it. I really felt like they'd iron out the issues. I'm not sure how they fumbled so hard.

This was the only upcoming MMO that me and my group of friends was ready to give it our all to, I even had other friends from other MMOs they still play that also wanted to tag along. This a very common comment so i gotta ask, what did you see early on that triggered so much hype, or was it literally just that it was an anime/ modern cell shaded mmo? personally for me, i saw a second of the combat and just 'oh that looks super stripped back and one note', prior to that i thought nothing because the gameplay matters most
@JoakimFigge
@JoakimFigge 18 дней назад
@@wesleyleigh4063 For me it was a combination of being bored by the current games I play, but me and a friend both found out about the game at the same time as well, so we started to dig together and found images, trailers, and the whole community dance video. Then later they dropped the character creation tool for people to try, and that was just awesome. And we're both anime fans so it just hit home more. I tend to not dig too deep, cause I rather avoid spoiling myself, so when I have enough information to be content, I'm ok to avoid the topic until it's time. And since my friend group kept talking about the game on and off over time we kept the hype going among us.

This is just sad, I know running an MMORPG is difficult but Blue Protocol is essentially a gold-mine of an IP but everyone running the show is too incompetent to truly bring out its full potential. Its similar to FF14 ARR, when the right people are behind the wheel, amazing things can happen, but Bandai never caught-on how important good leadership and direction is. It sucks seeing them throw away something so great, at least shut things down to make a firm hyped comeback in like 2-3 years, are they really just gonna throw this IP away?!

It will become the benchmark for any game with a development saga like Bandai Namco's handling of it. I really hope maybe they take everything here and try to have a Realm Reborn moment and relaunch. This game had so much potential. I just think given the style of game and their update schedule they should've been a pay to play game. With a subscription model they would've been able to have a steady income stream. Turn the outfits into direct purchases and adjust the drop chances to match a subscription model. Because free games always have scant drop rates in order to push people to buy material packs and battle pass stuff and the monetization isn't ever worth it. Especially to us out here in the west. And like you said, even B2P would've been better. Just having that steady stream would do wonders. Because honestly I would've happily slapped money down for a sub on this game as well as a few direct purchase outfits. I think another issue too was the imagines. Battle pass imagines being so powerful and practically required by players for certain content. That's a huge no-no. Those Imagines should've been something earned in game in the way relics are earned in other games. Just ugh...wasted potential.

I disagree with you that if BP was a pay to play game, it would've been more successful. That will just create another Concord situation but in Japan, the paywall already limits your potential playerbase in a market saturated with alternative titles. People will look at what BP can provide behind that paywall and compare it to other F2P MMOs. You simply cannot look at BP launch state and recommend others to spend money on that mess. The game would've died even faster.

I knew this was most likely going to happen which is why I distanced myself away from Blue Protocol after so many years of waiting but the fact that it actually happened still is mind boggling. The fact that two big companies like Amazon and Bandai with experience and money couldn't get this right shows a whole new level of incompetence and mismanagement. It is disgusting. This game had so much potential and easily could have soared like GW2, FF, WoW, and Warframe. I really wanted to believe in Bandai and Amazon and believe that they could have learned from past mistakes but it seems they will never learn and are insanely unreliable. I will never again look forward or even glance at a game ran by Bandai or Amazon again. This whole situation is just disgusting and tragic.

BUT will it successful to make people quit ToF? I just only see Genshin community is much more immoral in other games. I use other games as wuthering waves, azur promilia, 7ds origin, Project mugen, etc. if it is actually successful and will make people quit ToF. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a live service game. It lost WBD $200 million. Marvel Avengers, another live service game, delisted in 2023, launched 2020, due to underperforming and struggling to keep a player base. Blue Protocol from reports I've read tanked hard in Japan due to spotty gameplay, extremely aggressive gatcha, and a lack of content. Even Destiny/Destiny 2 has similar issues, but by this point, sunk cost fallacy and being numb to the abuse keeps it's player base coming back. But the concept of live service games is still going strong in the game industry despite all this because game companies can't look past the potential revenue of being able to milk a player base over and over without having to release new mainline games to do it.

(I'm jaded towards Bandai after they fumbled ToC and ToL, AGS and what they did with LA and planned to do with BP. Neither of these companies seem to know how to handle live service games.) I still got Guild Wars 1 and 2 when I'm broke and FFXIV when I'm not at least.

I agree.. they should have made it buy to play, but also... should have been released it in the west ALOT sooner....and do it like baldurs gate 3. make it a beta release, letting people know its a game in progress and give the people a choice to purchase and play the game, if they wanted to support the devs in reaching their goals of the game. Im sure the majority of people in the comments know exactly what should have been done.. like many others and the ones that were RESPONDSIBLE for the project were blind & incompetent....and robbed all the consumers/gamers the choice of keeping blue protocol alive.. -Such a sad day for Gamers-.

Yes going f2p might be a major mistake, but I think their biggest mistake is trying to work with amazon. Obviously a great release way earlier on the western side would have helped the game tremendously. Amazons behavior was really a huge part of the issue there, they had all the infrastructure ready to launch the game on day one, but they did barely any marketing on the western side, barely any communication, they announced things only on Facebook which was already weird AF. At this point their behavior started to look suspicious, may be they just didn't want the game to succeed, they hate anime games and especially support DEI woke politics and we know the wokist think of most anime fans as p*dos who all love Lolis and they act like those are 'literally real children' The first character who is important for the story, and you get to know as a player is a loli character, may be that didn't help. The moment they decided to censor the game in their weird way of thinking, even taking away the option to make smaller character in the character creator was a sure sign for me, they're trying to harm the game as much as possible and I think, they managed to do it perfectly. Amazon is at least to 50% to blame for BP failure, Bandai was to naive to work with them, their biggest mistake was to trust in western publisher like Amazon and not thinking properly about the global market. A big problem in Japanese corp ethics, how they always focus first and only on the Japanese marked and fail to see the bigger picture.

When I realised the game had no end game no pvp and just boring dungeons I knew it would struggle. Still namco had a chance to change the game and make it better. I wonder if they were holding up hope for the global release to bring money and players, but amazon was like, you're gonna have to censor this, and change that, and add all this DEI, and they were like, well global is just not worth it, and the JP version isn't sustainable by itself. Because the last patches were well received and the last news we had were that they were talking about DEI with amazon. I don't know how it works exactly but I wonder if we will be able to get private servers, I know a bunch of dead MMOs have private servers

You are waaay too deep into this DEI stuff. The fact is very simple, BP is a poorly managed game that doesn't have a good gameplay reward loop to keep players engaged. Bandai wrote off the global version not because of DEI and censoring but because they don't want to keep losing money on a failing project
