Here's a tutorial for a simple blue roan with an airbrush - just in time to paint your NaMoPaiMo horse! This roaning technique can be used for Red Roans (applied over a chestnut) and bay roans (applied over a bay) as well. There are lots of ways to do a roan, but this is a good way to start out! This horse will also get a few layers of white earth pigments for his roaning to help soften the overall look.
Paints used (watered down for the airbrush):
Liquitex Mars Black
Liquitex Titanium White
I also have a Perlino tutorial coming soon (as soon as I have time to edit it) so that should be up sometime this month for NaMoPaiMo as well! Better get painting!

I was wondering how to do white markings. So if you could make a video on that it would be highly appreciated.

There's not really a whole lot that I'm sure I can show..... It's watered down white acrylic and then lots and lots of layers. But if you're really wanting a video I can try to see what I can come up with.

This video was really helpful for when I start working with my own air brush. Waiting for my dad to build a station in the backyard for me. im just hand painting customs in the mean time. I will use the video as a reference For a Blue roan, what would be needed besides balck a light spray of white..?

Everything is shown in the video for Blue Roan. Black, white over the body, and then go over the points again in black. How much white you add determines how light or dark your roan is. Or you can also use white earth pigments to lighten the body color as well, which creates a softer look as well. That's what I ended up doing with this horse later on.

@@WildHorseStudios ok great thank you. Very helpful unfo. So need to add any blue paint correct.? To create blue to an?.
@WildHorseStudios

@@breyerheart9450 No - there's no blue in this color at all. "Blue roan" is just the name of the real horse color. It's a black horse with a roan gene.

@@WildHorseStudios ok good to know. Thank you. I am gonna be starting and testing out my gun next week. So eixh6 me luck. Also I do know is to start dark then light for layers and shading for air brushing. This is correct for, greys, bays, and roans?

Do you have lighting from above or behind you into the spray booth?

I actually paint in a sunroom (for right now). So during the day there's usually quite a bit of natural light. There's also several other lights in the room - a ceiling fan, and two places with brighter lights on a rail. It was dark on this day, so I pulled out the floor lamp we have that creates bright natural light so it was easier to see the color I was creating.So there's light kind of everywhere.

@@WildHorseStudios thank you, i was just wondering what kind of light you used for the booth!!!
