What I love about this song is how delightfully malicious it is, almost reveling in the wealth generated by turning bloody horror into almost cartoonish entertainment. Although to be perfectly honest, this is as much our fault as it is the corporate news. I thought this song was originally about how record labels would entice young people (mostly female) to over time give up their dignity, to be more sexual by wearing costumes that where revealing and the lyrics sexual in nature, I thought it was originally about basically tricking people into selling themselves to the music and acting/modelling industry and having their autonomy and sense of self removed etc and being turned into a puppet by whom ever they signed to

Get a lot of Marilyn Manson vibes from the lyrics. Seems to explore the same themes he does with the immortalisation of serial killers and them practically becoming pop culture icons. Pretty interesting.

the song is fantastic, and it addresses something I've been angry about for a long time (mainstream media feeding frenzies over tragic mass murders). the only real criticism I have is of the chorus, which just repeats the same four (good) lines when it feels like it could've said more with that space. I would love to see a version that keeps the same or similar rhyming scheme, but uses a different set of lyrics for the second quartet in the chorus, or a different first quartet, keeping the original for the second since it's so impactful. I love this song, can't get enough, but it just feels weak in that regard. Maybe it's my love of poetry and maximizing available word space, and most people don't care. :) Keep doing what you do.
