Bon Iver performs the fourth track "Blue Tulip" from the new Okkervil River album The Stand Ins. Check out the Okkervil River channel for more Stand Ins videos. www.okkervilriver.com
Agreed! I could go for a studio cover release as well. Although I prefer Okkervil on a whole. Okkervil cover of some tracks on For Emma would be great!
First time i've heard this and must have just listened to it about 20 times on repeat now - absolute magic. Would love to be able to write this sort of stuff.
This is such a gorgeous take on the song. I love it when one of my favorite musicians covers another one of my favorite musicians. If only Okkervil River would return the favor... ;-) (By the way, since it seems like most of the commenters here are Bon Iver fans rather than Okkervil River fans - check them out! Chances are if you like Bon Iver you'll like Okkervil too. Their albums Black Sheep Boy or The Stage Names are both excellent starting points.)
Agreed! Also, “Sleep and Wake-Up Songs” is the first thing of theirs I heard, it’s my favorite of theirs, and “A Favor” is my favorite song of theirs, that ep/album might be their closest to Bon Iver’s style.
this is the most on point i've heard him sing yet. by all means hes always great... but this is spot on. every note. i'm not big on precision, but when you hear it like this.. its just great
I really likes his style of music. He bringsalong a warm feeling deep inside me. It feels me up with what i almost would compare with the satisfaction of love.
HUGE Okkervil River fan, and I love this video, cool as f**k. Bon Iver is really something great, Love the way he made it totally his own, the only way to remake a great song.
Excellent! EXACTLY what I am looking for! You are fully aware of its simplicity, and can find greatness in more than its sound! The emotional side of this guys work is pretty potent, and I'm sure it really does evoke a great love for many a listener. CSNY is the example I have been using as a comparison too! I feel that this guy can be the modern day Neil Young,if only he would team up with a few other artists and make a nice little folk band with 3p harmonies. Wouldn't that be awesome? lol
@FMECCTV he composed "For emma" completely by himself, bon iver was his stage name. He started playing with the other members on his first major tour! But i agree that people should realise that bon iver is now a group!
I loved Okkervil River for doing this album and having this "pre-release" with "Stage Names" playing... I wonder if Will knew that the band Bon Iver was destined for Grammy Awards? I also have a feeling when Justin was accepting the award and he thanked and extended his hand out to "all the non-nominees who've never been here and never will be here." I have a feeling Okkervil River is one such group, although he was nominated for liner notes last year.
i love his voice. he actually has a really deep voice so i can't figure out if he just has a really incredible range, or if he's always singing falcetto.
Will Sheff (of Okkervil River) is a genius songwriter. Sadly, it will probably take other artists covering his songs for him to get his due. Beautiful job, Justin!
It is simply an issue because of how easily it is produced. In an age where music is as popular as ever, you would think that the level of music would become more sophisticated, but as time seems to go it becomes more simplistic and more people become blindly in love.
