Hello People, this is Stentor coeruleus. It is the blue whale of the microworld. They are blue and gentle also very wise! Although they are unicellular organisms you can spot them with the naked eye. They can be couple of millimeters in length. Can you see the details of the cell? Isn't it really beautiful?!
.
They can regenerate after being cut. Can you see the beads in the cell, they look like a necklace or a rosary? That's the nucleus of the Stentor coeruleus where the millions of copies of its genome stored. If you cut a Stentor coeruleus into hundred pieces, this each piece will become a whole cell. As long as the cut piece of the cell contains a bit of the nucleus it will regenerate back to a healthy looking cell.
.
They are like squids 🦑as well, they eject the pigment that gives them the blue color in order to avoid predators. One of the Stentors in my slide ejected the blue pigment but I wasn't able to record it, still you can see the blue marks in the video. Thank you for reading.
