Yes, this is from their Joe's Pub concert which took place while both of them were still doing Next To Normal. If you watch the video diaries of Kyle Dean Massey when he was playing Gabe, he talks to Jennifer about this concert. :)
Jenn originally was going to understudy Wendla as well. She was the youngest cast member at age 14-15. Also as you know, the role of Wendla of course requires partial nudity. She couldn't understudy Wendla because she was too young.
@@erinmcdonaugh5409 during off Broadway production, Remy was the youngest. During Broadway run, they added Jennifer Damiano as ensemble/understudy, and she is younger than Remy Zaken
She was in the Ensemble (Stage Right Chair of Rock) but she was the main Ilse understudy. There wasn't a bootleg of her as Thea. It was Jenn going on for Lilli as Martha.
Okay, so this is my single favorite song from my favorite musical of all time, and then Next to Normal is my second-favorite musical, and I am crying, and all I can say is that they need to be cast as Moritz and Ilse. Now. And I can NEVER except non-JGJ Moritzes, so that's saying something. (Also, I love how during his part she's all attitude and acting, but during her part he just stares at her XD)
so to make things clear... Jenn WAS in the OBC of Spring Awakening as an understudy and an ensemble member. Adam was NOT in Spring Awakening in any way, shape or form. he's just singing the song.
does anyone else see while jen's singing blue wind it looks like adam is crying?! i'm not sure if it's the light reflecting on his face but it looks like tears!!
Adam's internal monologue while Jennifer sings... "@1:40 Yea, I like this song, catchy... @1:50 Dang, that girl got pipes! @1:54 La la la... @1:58 Ooo, she's cute too. @2:38 Uhuhuh, climax! @3:08 Oh, I gotta sing now..."
Jenn sounds amazing here. I saw her in Spiderman, I didn't think she was all that great... something was off. Still, as with all her characters, she made Mary Jane charming and lovely just like herself x
I could soooo see him as Moritz. Of course she would have to Ilse because that's the only strong, independent female character in the show and yeah that would be perfect.
He's great in Next to Normal, but I'll admit he's definitely not rocking "Blue Wind/Don't Do Sadness." Still, I love him as Henry in N2N. She's great in both Next to Normal and Spring Awakening! Jennifer Damiano should definitely do Ilse at some point.
this is nice. she blows him out of the water in my opinion, though. he has a little difficulty with his upper register and his chest /head blend. He "shows" his emotion and tries to do too much with his hands. For her its all in her eyes. she feels it...makes her tone even that much more powerful!
@isax3bellee I repeated that statement to myself every time I watched him sing/talk/breathe/live in general.. and through much too much restraining order-worthy research (cough, stalking).. I'm pretty sure I've come to the conclusion that he is. It took me a few months, and I'm slowly becoming less devastated, although it'll always be hard to accept. Whyyy do all the beautiful uberly talented ones like boys :'( He's still gorgeous and can sing like no other, though. Hooray for that :)
I completely agree. I wish he could look at me the way he looks at her! Heck, maybe not even Adam specifically... I'd love just about any (non-creepy) guy to look at me that way! ... Excuse me while I swoon.
It makes me really happy to see them singing together in light of N2N, but this is a very weak performance. Adam Chanler-Berat does not have the vocal strength or charisma needed for the role of Moritz. Jennifer Damiano sings the part of Ilse well, but I am not ecstatic about it.
